I've been busy since this past Tuesday. Since son was here to help, DHs bedroom has been emptied and all clothing and other good items have been donated to a large faith based thrift store in Bentonville. Son took a lot of the garage things and a couple of construction workers took the rest. Garage is clean and swept. Refrigerator has been emptied and cleaned and food for me is in there in place things DH would have eaten. Have washed the sheets and blanket from his bed and instead of using dryer, they are hanging up to dry.
I worked a deal yesterday with the Mercedes dealer on a 2 mo old newly leased car: Traded in lease car and my SUV and bought a 2016 Mercedes GLC and walked away with a check also for $5K.
Verizon: son told me to call Verizon and tell them I'm out of contract and want my bill lowered. It went from $112/mo to $60/mo for the next year.
ATT: visted the ATT store and got my Uverse bill from $289/mo down to $200.
Grocery store today: Set an amount of $35, and spent a total of $32.87 Yea me!! I even bought a box of day old donuts to give me a nice sugar high. I've always thought glazed donuts solve just about all problems .
I have started new YNAB budget using new monthly income amount....and it shows I will be spending far less per month than my income.
I'm now worn out, think a cup of hot tea and a comfy chair are just what I need.

Wow BG,
You really did tackle a lot. My Mom did the same when my Dad passed. She gave most of his clothing to a homeless shelter.
Now is time for some R&R, you have earned it.

You've gotten a lot accomplished already. Your donut break is well deserved. Might as well throw in an adult beverage while you're at it. And

I am impressed, BG. But it's ok to splurge on fresh donuts, too. I know it is scary, but you are a smart woman. You can do this.

I had a nice little nap with my tea this afternoon, that was nice....Tomorrow my plan is to package up the sheets and blanket since no one will be using that bed for awhile, then clean the bedroom and rearrange the furniture the way I always thought it should be. Then onto cleaning his bathroom. The handy guy that we use will put the glass shower doors back on, we removed those with DH started falling.
I will make a trip to Dillards something next week to look for new comforter set to replace what was on there. Maybe some new fresh pillows also.

I am awed and impressed, Granny. Not everyone could do what you have done. If I recall correctly, your dear DH was ill for quite some time, so I know you were aware of what could happen. I have a DH with a chronic condition, so I understand a little bit. If it helps you to be busy and focused on physically working through things and moving on to whatever is next, then so be it. You are the only one who knows what works for you, and at what pace you can do it. And if you want to get it done while fueled by donuts, that's your privilege.

Great negotiating on the bills! That is some nice savings! I'm sorry on the loss of your husband. I'm sorry he was sick for so long. Your life is going to be very different now. It won't have the same joys as it had with him but there are still things to experience and enjoy. I'm sure you will find all of them eventually.

I feel your pain. I'm two months out. It's not as raw but it seems I can't do anything without wishing he was with me. Went to a street festival in Pass A Grille, thought about how much DH loved those.

I have a great little community here....Monday night is Bunco, Tuesday is the Ladies tea and hair appt. Thursday is a Christmas music performance by the singing group from 1st Baptist Church in Rogers. Saturday night is our pot luck Christmas dinner (and my birthday).
I cleaned & scrubbed DHs bedroom yesterday from top to bottom. Removed some furniture that never did fit in there correctly, and it will be picked up by that faith based thrift store I like. Found a really nice multi colored floral print comforter set at Dillards yesterday. I have a neighbor who stages houses for sale, so she helped me accomplish that.
Today she & I are heading to Pier 1 and Home Goods, I want to put in a couple of small chairs along one long wall with a small table. Hope I can find something nice AND on sale.
