BG,
Good for you!
I'm another one who finds "doing something" helps with the grieving process.

I feel your pain. I'm two months out. It's not as raw but it seems I can't do anything without wishing he was with me. Went to a street festival in Pass A Grille, thought about how much DH loved those. Hugs, Zib. zibazinski

Stay very very busy. When you're not, walk outside. Helps with sleeping.

Zib, I've been sleeping better than I have in years. 9 PM comes and I'm ready to crawl under the covers. I guess I was sleeping with one eye open waiting for another shoe to drop by DH for so long I've forgotten what it was like. Not even needing any zanax for help.

I did it.....in restaurant for lunch.
on edit: I felt like such a big girl!!! That was a giant step for me that I can hardly believe I did it. BTW, the chicken pot pie was delicious....so was the warm biscuit with butter.
Onward...can hardly wait to see what the next thing is that I try.

I know what you mean about sleeping with one eye open. When my mom was sick, both my sister and I were not sleeping well waiting for something to happen. We both slept great after she passed away. My dad has never admitted it, but I'm sure he did too as she was waking him almost every night to sit up with her in the living room. Good for you for going out to eat alone.

Update: I have been busy refreshing the bedroom DH used and it has turned into a terrific guest room. New towels etc. for guest bath (it was DHs).
#2: Had the roofing company out and it appears that the leak was fixed by the builder so nothing was needed to be done. The estimate would have been between $5K-7K.
#3: The HVAC company was here yesterday and the eventual decision of the uneven H & AC is that the unit is undersized for the size and layout of the house. Estimate: $12K. Considering my age, the estimated time I could still live here, and the fact that the guest room is the one that has the problem, I thanked him graciously and said I would put a space heater in there if someone is actually visiting and staying in there.
#4: Yesterday I finally did a permanent fix to my bed problem of being too high and that caused me to fall under the bed a few months ago. I had removed the springs and was using a Bunkie board, but I bought a low profile box spring that will be delivered today.
#5: All the closets and drawers in the house have been gone through and organized, including my sewing area and all the drawers that hold fabric.
#6: I visited the local fireplace store to see if there were other options for my non-vented fireplace and decided just calling them to come out each fall and clean & safety check the fireplace and light the pilot is the best option.
I'm sure if I dug a little deeper I could do more decluttering in the kitchen, but for now, my goal of turning this house into one that is mine and not "ours" has been accomplished. I'm moving forward with my life, and intend to enjoy the years I have left. I am not going to spend those precious years wearing sack cloth and ashes. Laughter goes a long way to heal sadness and any self pity that should arise will quickly be kicked to the curb.
on edit: I called the cleaning service that I had suspended since mid October and have them starting again on January 20th. I gave myself the option of not having them anymore until I was able to take a look at my new monthly income.

You have been very busy and it sounds like the house is now yours.
There will most likely be difficult days, but it sounds like you have a great attitude.
