What did you think about President Obama’s address to the nation on Libya? Background reading •Obama explains his case on Libya www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42314188/ns/politics-white_house/1. It was a successHe clearly made a case for the U.S. mission there 2. It was a failure. I’m still not clear what the U.S. is doing there Not sure

If anybody thnks VietNam was a quagmire, they ain't seen nuthin' yit. We have 2500 miles of unprotected southern border, 10 times as much coastline, we are broke with the country turning on itself internally, and President Obama wants us to undertake the rebuilding of more middle east wasteland on top of that?
How do you say "naive"? Unless, of course, it is part of a bigger scheme designed to eventually put the last nail in our national coffin.

The only personal conclusion I can draw is that the more Obama tries to explain it the more confused I get. The middle east is a powder keg with the fuse burning. For the last 15 years we as a country have had no real success in the region much less any mission accomplished. The only success I see is that both the Democrats and Republicans have managed to bankrupt us with wars in that region and the worst is yet to come in the middle east. We better start looking out for number one.

handyman2 ............I listened to Obama's speech, read the transcript , read the consevative and liberal responses and the fact checking article....conclusion= there is still a lot we don't know about Libya, and not sure we know more tonight than last night.. Maybe we have set the bar too high for Obama or we expect too much from a guy who clearly is in a job way over his head..

One of the many differences between us, so many can't count ed, it's not hero worship, close too, it's just not the paranoia either real, or just something for boards like this to hang ones hat on. With all the things on a Pontus plate, and he has a lot, so far , seems to be doing just fine, I realize with all the power one of these folks have, they don't walk on water, and constant 100 % dissing such as you and your fellows, makes no sense, and just scroll by. His speech was a good one. I am wondering as some of the commentators if some security and time isn't being given to Gaddafi. All were demanding a public speech, problem is he, Gaddafi can listen too. I don't think Roosevelt was on the radio telling Adolf his plans every day. He could have gone ion and said we are going to go after him and his family with everything we have, that might have caused the man to have second thoughts. Tell us we have specials in country, only job, not helping the insurgents, job finding what hole he is in and so far, getting close. Even if not true, say it anyway, but then , he let me know by the way, told you we PM a lot, he said if he did that, ed and friends would be all over him here and he can't take that constant type of dissiing, ed and friends , to influential.

On Obama's middle east "dreams". I'd say they are just that. . . dreams. And what I "really" see is that he has come to recognize he is an absolute failure at being president over the American way of life and aspirations. His has seen that his vision is just not supported widely enough and will not fit the landscape, so he is conveniently looking for a way to salvage it by resorting to "Never let a good crisis go to waste."
That would be okay if the cure wasn't always worse than the disease.

Not the exact words true , but a synopsis of what is said against the man , also with as much thought given to as far as criticism. He is open to it , criticism, as is anyone in leadership but on every single decision, thought , murmur ,. even before it passes his lips, come on already. It's old so my phrase, yeah , I'll stay with it. Come up with a specific, not just the same old, same old which amounts to "because i say it is so ", then one can discuss it and even at times agree , possible or even one has a point , he made a mistake, could have done something different, but we never get that, just the same, " Obama sucks ...yadda, yadda".. type post. Tell me not so, if honest, you can't.

Shadow Of A President. Obama once held the hopes, dreams and aspirations of all Americans in the palms of his hands. Now, voters see the President as their biggest problem. A mere shadow of the man they once elected. A weak leader taking the country in the wrong direction.
President Barack Obama’s job approval rating has fallen again to 39%, equaling a low since he took office.
Also, 63% of likely voters say Obama is a weak leader, compared to 19% who label him strong. 68% Say Nation Headed in Wrong Direction.
So the bottom line is can Obama turn it around by 2012...or more specially in @ 600 days??? I don't have a clue but if past performance is any indication of future results then the answer has to be a resounding NO unless you have been living under a rock and just crawled out again to defend your "hero" or "leader" or whatever he is called..."loser" comes to mind IMHO

"............ he made a mistake,,,,,,,,,,"
And when "he" makes a mistake people die.
Gloss that over with the family members.
I have read not a single, , , not a single , , , liberal post that was in favor of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but all of a sudden those same liberals are applauding Obama for his "doing the right thing" in Libya.
I'd like one of them to explain the difference to me. I promise to try and understand.

From what I am reading , it seems that costs are being raised by all sides in Washington, actually a hell of a way to fight a war , but possible something that should be addressed before we get into things. I don't remember a big ta do about Desert Storm in 1991, lordy was that really 20 years ago, the consensus I remember was that Iraq had to be removed from Kuwait, though I am sure some were against it, hell there were Americans some where against us declaring war after Pearl Harbor. As far as Iraq , the removal of and last invasion , possible more should have hit the streets with the signs and the loud voices, over a $ trillion, 30,000 wounded, 4500 Americans lost, 100's of thousands of Iraqis dead, who knows wounded and maimed, infrastructure damage , yes a bad person removed but lots of bad people in this world of ours. You think that one was a good one??

Well I approved of going into Afghanistan, but was appalled by the lack of commitment they gave it from 2003-2008. Of course I opposed Iraq, I'm not completely foolish. And yes, I oppose the action in Libya, at least by us. What the French and the English do is not my concern. You forgot Desert Storm.. And are you a Pacifist or just one of those stubborn down Mainers who doesn't like anybody or anything about our government especially our military...all you guys like to do is live in peace and quiet and enjoy your beaches, go to church every Sunday and go on family picnics, and raise your families without anyone from outside Maine getting involved in your private lives..in orther words you are very independent ..which is not a bad thing.

Not the exact words true , but a synopsis of what is said against the man , also with as much thought given to as far as criticism. Sometimes the criticisms against Obama are petty bullshit, sometimes they're not. Yet you play your yadda yadda card nearly every thread. Yeah, it's almost as bad as listening to the libs whine about every breath Bush took, eh? As a matter of fact, some are still whining and blaming Bush. Imagine that. Feel free to "use it" all you wish. IMHO, your yadda yadda card is already over the credit limit.

OK with you?? Always wanting to please , just let me know your acceptance of, I'll just have to remember no yadda, yadda but blah, blah, blah, blah ..try to remember. I just can't figure what it is about Obama but ever since he first burst on the scene; he just rubs me the wrong way. I cannot even stand to watch him on TV. Some think it is because I am racist or just don't like his politics but NO, he comes across to me as someone who is very insecure but tries to put up a false sense of bravado and intellect. And all the TelePrompTer readings and few if any open discussion with the press is hard to understand.
He is probably doing the best he can with what he brings to the job but is that all there is?? I don't think so. But probably want too much from a very inexperienced president who has to rely on Biden and Dailey??...c'mon that is ludicrous..

Regarding the above post , thoughts of how the PONTUS affects a poster here, for me, just the oposite. I find him articulate, like the fact that he seems to definitly look into all solutions before he makes large momentus decisions, seems he is a person who condsiders the ramafacations of what may happen when certain things are enacted and seems to be a realist on many issues, not blowing smoke. Very comfortable with him as PONTUS. I do NOT expect all decisions to come out correctly, and feel in this mans case if it is shown a solution is not going to come out as hoped, he wll go back to the black board and consider another tact, with out it being a worry that it is showing him to be a waverer or weak.
I guess it's just the perception I have toward the man vs the one another has.
Not sure if there is a right or wrong on this at all, just a perception of.

And how many times does he say "Let me be clear...." No Mr. POTUS, I'm not going to let you be clear. I'd much rather have you beat around the bush (No pun intended), lie, exaggerate, dramatize and muddy whatever picture you're trying to paint with your speech. Put your overdrawn card away Dezi...it's just a pet peeve, not a blah blah yadda yadda moment.

cowboy named Bud was overseeing his herd in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced toward him out of a cloud of dust
The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes , RayBan sunglasses and YSL tie, leaned out the window and asked the cowboy, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, Will you give me a calf?"
Bud looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?"
The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone and surfs to a NASApage on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.
The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshopand exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg , Germany .
Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses an MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response.
Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer, turns to the cowboy and says, "You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves."
"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says Bud.
He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on with amusement as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.
Then Bud says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?"
The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?"
"You're an aide in the Obama Administration", says Bud.
"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"
"No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You used millions of dollars worth of equipment trying to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don't know a thing about how working people make a living - or about cows, for that matter. This is a herd of sheep. ...
Now give me back my dog."

Who cares what he did in college? This is supermarket tabloid nonsense, and his youthful misadventures are similar to millions of other young adults his age. I find this especially true since there are members of this very board admitting they took drugs in college. Go figure.
As for Obama's leadership, I think it's strange that Obama is either micromanaging everything - or doing absolutely nothing. There is no in between because, without hyperbole, there wouldn't be much to post about.
Oh, and for the teleprompter, you folks need to let that dog finally rest. Every president used a bloody teleprompter, and before they were invented, they used notes hidden in front of their mics. Do you think those older presidents glanced down all the time to admire the fine woodwork and sheen of their podium?
