Sarah Palin and Obama are about even if you ask me. Sure, I like Sarah Palin's "ideology" (such as it is-- I think she's really a populist vs. a true conservative) better than Obama's, but her "common sense" supermom from the frontier act is just that-- it's an act. It's a reality TV personna.
We need a serious person who is up to the challenge-- someone like Newt Gingrich. He ain't pretty, he isn't politically palpable in ordinary circumstances, but we face extraordinary challenges.
I'm hoping when Obama is gone, the whole concept of "celebrity-in-chief" ends with his Presidency.

Newt's got a ton of baggage and an ego the size of Texas. Plus he will roll over for political expedience at the drop of a hat.
I agree with you about Palin, to say the least.
What about Paul Ryan, Mike Pence, Marco Rubio and some of the other young Turks?

If the system doesn't corrupt him, give him a couple years.... True, FY, there is a lack of experience, he is about on par with Barack Obama in that regard. However, unlike Barack Obama he is not a red diaper baby, born and raised on Communist pap. There have been plenty of presidents with little experience who have gone on to do a good job for the country. For me, love of country is a prime qualifier. Rubio has that in spades. I haven't really watched to see his leadership style. I hope he's made of presidential timber. The one fortunate thing about Obama is that in his mind he is the number one priority so he is willing to alienate those on the far left who he really stands with to gain political strength for himself. He is a puppet to everything and everyone, not just his backers. He'll ignore his backers to keep his presidency going. He'll whine but he'll do it.

Nice scapegoating, but no. This country was already having financial fits long before Obama ever stepped foot in the White House. It's like blaming Obama for driving off a cliff even though the wheel was given to him when the front tires were already over the edge. I don't agree with everything Obama has done, but your incessant bashing of liberals and the anti-Obama hate threads you've spammed the UK board with suggests there is much more than politics at play.
Any logical and sane person understands that there is more than enough blame to spread around to every president and congress during the last half century, but this junkyard dog approach to everything (and I do mean everything) Obama does shows you have no objectivity, and that, in turn, raises doubts as to your credibility.

I like Rubio also!! Those of you that know me know I have been posting about him for a LONG time now. He is awesome, has a great history, and is to be watched. I really hope he does not become corrupted. But, with his history, he is totally unlike anything we have seen in MY lifetime, and I have great hopes for him. I hear a lot of talk about Cristie.. don't know how to spell his name, sorry. One thing I believe-- it will not be a current front runner. Someone awesome is going to step in a take the 2012 nomination. I just know it.
Hey-- good to see you guys!! I have been lost in the desert since I got foreverandeverandever banned from P&M. I'm excited!! Time to get back in the swing of things!!!!
Geez, no spell check-- have to check every post before I post!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, any mods watching. I hate my avatar. I want the little dancing devil one, but do not know how to do avatars. I'm too stupid or lazy or whatever to figure it out. Can one of you change it for me?? Don't know how to do smileys either yet, so I am just going to say... (angle halo smiley face) (smiley face)

Yeah...and the best part is his Cuban descent. So, it's the conservative crowd's turn to throw the race card around if those on the left do anything less than worship him. Krickitt...if you either hit "QUOTE" in one of the message boxes or "REPLY" in the blue bar after the last message, you get a spell check option. Using the "QUICK REPLY" box, you do not.

Also, to do smileys you need to reply via the reply button found at the top right of the page.... Well, whadya kno....I never saw that one. I always clicked the one on the bottom right....since I was usually closer to the bottom when I come across a message that needs replyin' too.

Hi there! There is a "How To" section at the top of the MSN Money Boards Refugees page. This is very nice because there are many options for enhancing your posts. You can use different fonts and colors.
The html's just need to be pasted in whole and they will post live.
Hold your cursor over the little boxes above the reply box and you will find many codes for various effects and functions so you don't have to type code.
I haven't found any solution for spell check. Most people don't mind a few typos and misspelled words. Some people like to attack your intelligence over every little nit picky thing but, good news, personal attacks aren't allowed here. notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi

Dem, nice to see a liberal who can actually state his case with intelligence and civility.

Don't know about "libs" but this liberal fully admitted that Obama did not have "hard political experience." I disagree(d) with Palin's stance on political issues. I was very concerned with McCain's very narrow life experience. (He grew up in a military family, went to a private preparatory boarding high school, military academy for college, military career, immediately ran for and won federal office, served in government ever since.) At least President Obama had some experience in a wider world. So you are using his military experience against him?

Obama's "wider world."
Communist family.
Islam in Indonesia.
Angry black mentor in Hawaii where he smoked dope and resented white people and America through high school.
Angry anti-American college in California where he smoke dope and resented white people and America.
Was embarrassed to work for the man putting out a financial newsletter in a college dorm like setting.
Organized old ladies to get apartments repaired. Failed to get apartments repaired.
Was present as a state senator sometimes.
Ran for president on a magical cloud of dreams.
Did I forget anything?

I was using the fact of his limited life experiences (which happens to be extensively military/government) as a factor in deciding whether to support him to be my president. With the exception of a six/eight month period during which he was supported by his father-in-law, he has been supported by taxpayer dollars his entire life.

"Did I forget anything?"
Trip to Pakistan.
Chicago politics.
Maybe foreign birth?

His trip to Pawkistawn is an interesting little mysterious journey taken with what money? at a time when Americans were not allowed into Pakistan.
Actually, you're right about the Chicago experience. He has used bully tactics to govern against the will of the people. It is experience, but is it good experience?
How would your place of birth count toward your experience?
Your points one and three seem to imply that he has foreign experience, but surely you've noticed he has failed again and again in foreign policy and in bringing about a better image for the United States among foreign nations. Too bad he wasted the prestige of the office seeking and failing to gain the Olympics.

Marsha, we have been over this before, there were no restrictions on traveling to Pakistan at that time or any time that I can think of. www.snopes.com/politics/obama/passport.asp Oh, I don't know. Some people say this, some people say that. I'm sure the State Department has records of which nations were restricted when. But like so much about the history of 0, it remains hidden away. Did you know that 0 was interviewed by Voice of America while he was in Pawkistawn. Wouldn't you love the hear that interview??***************** According to the Obama campaign, In 1981 — the year Obama transferred from Occidental College to Columbia University — Obama visited his mother and sister Maya in Indonesia. After that visit, Obama traveled to Pakistan with a friend from college whose family was from there. The Obama campaign says Obama was in Pakistan for about three weeks, staying with his friend’s family in Karachi and also visiting Hyderabad in Southern India. But according to UN High Commissioner for Refugees:webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:MzzRel9v8XsJ:un.org.pk/unhcr/Publications/PI%2520Publication.pdf+pakistan+war+refugees+1981&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-aTwenty – five years ago, the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees & the Government of Pakistan signed an agreement to provide humanitarian assistance & protection to millions of refugees fleeing war in Afghanistan. No one foresaw the dimensions of the unfolding tragedy. It has taken a long time, there have been many false dawns, but at last there is real hope that the end is in sight.
The story told by these photographs & text about a quarter century of cooperation illustrates both the initial need to provide urgent humanitarian relief & the tenacious search for a lasting solution. These powerful images are also a testament to the generosity of the people of Pakistan who hosted refugees for 25 years & the continuing commitment of the Government of Pakistan to provide refuge to those Afghans who still need it.
Over 25 years, UNHCR repeatedly saw hopes for repatriation dashed & fresh waves of Afghans arrive. At times the challenge seemed overwhelming. Expectations in the early 1990s that the situation would soon be resolved failed to aterialize. Instead, continued internecine conflict in Afghanistan caused more flows into Pakistan in the following years.
Throughout these years of war, Pakistan hosted the largest protracted refugee caseload in the world. Pakistan was their only hope. They arrived in wretched condition, some on the verge of starvation, after journeys that took the lives of friends & relatives. Despite its own economic & social burdens, Pakistan kept its tradition of hospitality & offered refuge. What kind of private person would visit Pakistan in 1981? Where is his college friend now? Enquiring minds want to know. Is it wrong to wonder?

Show me any proof that travel has been restricted to a country by the State department other than Cuba and a nation we are at war with. You are deflecting Marsha, hoping your oft repeated lie will be accepted as fact. Isn't there a enough bad about the President that you don't have to resort to lies to sully his image?

Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, N Korea, Serbia and Sudan...all had restrictions in (I'm guessing looking at the dates listed) 2002 according to this website. www.rdrop.com/users/tedpet/bad.htmBut you are correct about Pakistan as far as I can tell. The following is from a New York times article written in 1981: Tourists can obtain a free, 30-day visa (necessary for Americans) at border crossings and airports. Transportation within Lahore is plentiful, with taxis, scooter rickshaws and horse-drawn tongas (especially in the old city) readily available. Insist that taxis and scooter rickshaws use their meters to determine fares, however. Fares for longer journeys (for example, to the Shalimar Gardens) may have to be negotiated; ask the hotel staff for help. (We paid about $2 by scooter for the round trip to Shalimar.) Tonga fares are always agreed on through bargaining; most rides should cost less than 50 cents. www.nytimes.com/1981/06/14/travel/lahore-a-survivor-with-a-bittersweet-history.html?scp=1&sq=lahore travel 1981&st=cse&pagewanted=1

I think it is reasonable to assume Pakistan was a dangerous place for Americans while all those immigrants were streaming over the border from Afghanistan, but I was just thinking that what we need is a person who was familiar with travel in Pakistan during that time frame.
Then I remembered that in the summer of 1982 we hosted a missionary couple who were home from Pakistan for a convention and a furlough. They had been serving there for five years if I remember correctly, and they were not alone. So there were American missionaries in Pakistan.
That's one rumor that's dead as far as I'm concerned. Cheers!
