I want to buy something and am not in a big hurry to get it. Is there a way I can do something on the internet so that I will know if it ever goes on sale? Or if not that, is there a way to know what it usually sells for when it is on sale. Camel camel camel tells me that for Amazon. Is there something similar that says for whole internet prices?
I am looking for a Weber Smokey Joe Silver Charcoal Grill that sells for ~$30. Specifically I want to know if I wait could I get it cheaper and to be told when it is cheaper. Does something on the internet tell me?
Thanks

I can understand looking for something cheaper and waiting if it costs a thousand dollars. But 30 bucks? You're going to go through all that trouble to save $5?

(bangs head on desk) - Welts - not everyone has unlimited resources. If you have an Amazon account they will let you know when the prices changes on something if you put it in your shopping cart, you don't have to hit the order key to keep watch on things (I do this often). Good ideas already given by The Captain. I downloaded "invisible hand" and it shows best prices and/or coupons for every site I go to. It's a tool bar across the top of your screen but you can hide it or open it any time you want. Seems to work well for me so far.

Hickle-look for a reduced price (locally) when grills are off season like after Labor Day. Winter time might be a good time to buy though that might only apply to high-end (priced) grills.

If I remember correctly from another thread hickle is unemployed and goes to McDonald's everyday to use their wireless internet service to post with us. He has to buy coffee to use it so if their coffee is $1 a cup saving $5 gets him 5 days of internet service.

Again not everyone is so blessed. Besides, you were on his living cheaply thread so I have to assume you either have no memory at all or lack any sensitivity towards others. Because the alternative would be that you're acting like an ass, and I really don't want to be right on that one.

It costs me probably $5 worth of charcoal whenever I fire it up....not to mention the cost of the filet

Rice and beans is a better investment than charcoal and meat, especially if 5 dollars is going to make or break you.

Look for a grill at flea markets or garage sales.

When times were really tough, I bought everything used, bought food that was about to expire, and shopped exclusively at thrift stores. I found a perfectly serviceable grill at a flea market for $6 and I didn't look for a Weber Smoky Joe Silver grill.
(I do have sensitivity towards others. I have no sensitivity towards people who think people on their fifth DUI should be given another chance.)

I don't have an internet option for you... but around here by me the local hardware stores (and big box stores) usually have a sale on all the summer "leftovers" right before they start putting out the 'fall stuff'. Unfortunately, it's too late to buy a grill on sale right now... you are stuck waiting till the 'pre spring' sales. If you really want to live frugally - AND you've got a lot of time on your hands AND you live near a large sports stadium where tail gating is allowed... I'd suggest waiting until after the game - and then scavenging the "tail gate allowed" parking lot AFTER everyone (or nearly every one) is gone. All sorts of usable stuff gets left behind as trash. I've got a whole collection of 'used' grills that my relatives have scavenged after the 'Big Game'. I've got what was a nearly new "Outback" grill - damn nice charcoal grill - just had to clean the cooking 'grill' part. Cost me $2.00 for a can of Dollar store oven cleaner, $1 pair of rubber gloves, a $1 scrubby brush and a black plastic trash bag and about a total of 30 minutes (split in to 2 parts - over 6 hours). I use it two or three times a year. It's a great grill for burgers and brauts and chicken parts. I've also got a big Weber Kettle that came without a grill ($22.00 for the replacement). Great for roasting whole chickens or ducks. I had 3 different Smokey Joes (the $30.00 ones like you are looking for) that were used once and discarded. I cleaned those up and gave them a way. My brothers use two 'refurbished' portable gas grills (each was well over $100 new) for their tailgate. They picked them up (on two different occasions) in the parking lot after everyone had left. Someone tossed them out/left them behind after a game) - they spent time cleaning them up and then between $10 and $25 to replace a part or two. For under $50 they have 2 really nice gas grills. Just a "green" or frugal suggestion - especially if you don't mind putting in a little work or buying an inexpensive replacement part.

I have an Amazon account. Thanks to whomever posted about putting the item in your cart and watching the prices. I rarely need something "right now" and that might save me some money.

(bangs head on desk) - Welts - not everyone has unlimited resources. If you have an Amazon account they will let you know when the prices changes on something if you put it in your shopping cart, you don't have to hit the order key to keep watch on things (I do this often). I never use Wishlist, but I do put stuff in my cart and then "save for later". The items then appear below the cart, and I get the price change information.

Granted, we were looking for a gas grill but every single time we saw someone who had Webers on 'sale' there was some sort of catch to it. Your best bet might be to look used.

I can understand looking for something cheaper and waiting if it costs a thousand dollars. But 30 bucks? You're going to go through all that trouble to save $5? I just gave the grill as an example. I was more interested in the idea of how to look for deals on specific items across time. Looking for deals on stuff helps me with impulse buying also. I want the grill now, but if I wait for it to go on sale, I might be past that want.

There are a number of deal sites - like Slick Deals etc. You have to join the site and set a watch for what you want.
I use the Amazon wishlist. At Sears or kmart, if you add to cart or save for later they send you percent off coupons.

Do you have a local hardware store? Check with the manager at the end of grilling season (around here that means August or September) to see if they have any left, or possibly see if you can buy the display model at a reduced price.
Good luck!

Charcoal grills can also be used with firewood for grilling. It takes a little bit of finessing, but it can be done. If you have dead limbs lying around on your property, collect them for grilling needs. Then, you are just left with the cost of the filet.
