No need for guns and ammo as you will smite your enemy with your flatulence. Mormon Apocalypse Prediction Has People Stocking Up On FoodSales for freeze-dried food, flashlights, blankets and tents have soared in Utah in recent weeks as some Mormons have begun to prepare for the end of the world. The so-called "preppers" believe the world is ending this month based on biblical prophecies, the Hebrew calendar, an unstable economy, world politics and astronomical occurrences, the Salt Lake Tribune reported Sunday. “There is a sense of urgency, like something is up. A lot of people are mentioning things about September, like a financial collapse," said customer-service representative Ricardo Aranda at American Fork’s Thrive Life, which sells mostly freeze-dried food. The Mormon apocalypse believers claim the Jewish High Holy Days that began this week will trigger a financial crisis based on the United States’ “wickedness.” They predict the full moon on Sept. 28 is the next sign of the world is ending. Some of these speculations stem from Julie Rowe’s books, “A Greater Tomorrow: My Journey Beyond the Veil” and “The Time Is Now.” Rowe, a Mormon mother of three, published the books in 2014 to detail a “near-death experience." Her two books have sold more than 20,000 copies each. Officials with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said they do not endorse the books or their teachings. The late Mormon apostle Boyd K. Packer said in a 2011 LDS General Conference that the “end” was not near and called on young Latter-day Saints to plan for long, productive lives. “You can look forward to doing it right,” Packer said, ” — getting married, having a family, seeing your children and grandchildren, maybe even great-grandchildren.” Mormon Apocalypse Prediction Has People Stocking Up On Food

Sorry... if the choice is spam or death... I choose death. Eating spam is a fate worse than death.

OMG, not again! I don't think I can take the another wind-up to the apocalypse! Then, of course, there's the moaning and gnashing of teeth when all the believers find themselves still here after the deadline has passed. Ahhhh, the drama!

Are we having another apocalypse? Why didn't someone send me the memo, maybe on Facebook or Instagram, or something?
This could lead to PTSD. It's all good and sort of funny.

Some people are worried something bad is going to happen so they are taking precautions. They are buying food staples and other necessities just in case. I do not think Mormons are pushing that belief on anyone else. From what I have read and experienced many Mormons are kind and generous with helping others who want to get prepared for possible hard times. One of their fears is that bad economic times might be coming. I fear that too. As far as all the different religious beliefs that are being expressed across the world, this seems one of the more sensible ones.
I applaud people who are trying to prepare for things that worry them. If more people did that it would be a safer, better world. If anyone thinks bad times are not coming and does not want to prepare for that possibility, no one is forcing them to.

Does this mean there will be a run on 50lb bags of rice and wheatberries @ Sam's like several years ago. I wonder if the bugs/weevils enjoyed it? Some fat happy bugs. Maybe we should be worried about them too. And who is the evil person in blue? Can we fend him off by wearing purple ??

We now have Iran promising the destruction of Israel, and today North Korea is saying they will nuke us. So much for good faith negotiations.
What is the darn Doomsday clock ticking at these days anyway?

There was a Biblical big wound washing for the Mormons on the Utah/Arizona border with floods.

I must miss somehing because I can't figure out the tie-in to the two bolded statements. The Jewish High Holy Days started on Monday and (as far as I know per my Jewish friends) they last 10 days. So Yom Kippur (the end of this 10 day stretch) is on Wednesday 9/23. Are these good bible thumping christians really trying to imply that G*d is a slacker who needs 5 days to take the earth down?

Do people here ever get tired of mocking and ridiculing beliefs you disagree with? I have read 3 articles about this and in none of them do I see a quote from someone saying the world is going to end. Mormons believe they are supposed to be prepared for bad times by storing food and other necessities. There is nothing new to that belief. They have stores set up to help believers do that.
I know a lot of posters here skated through the last economic downturn. They did not lose their job and were able to ride through the downturn in stock values, but the truth is that that downturn really hurt a lot of people. It makes sense to worry about another downturn and to prepare as best you can.
This is a ugly thing about me, but I hope the next economic troubles we have hurt a lot more of the posters here. Many here are arrogant and mean-spirited to those with different experiences and worries. The mormons are just trying to prepare for possible problems that might arise. They are not killing people who think different. They are not chopping of the heads of those from other religions. They are just buying beans and rice and putting that on a shelf for just in case.

Hickle I don't think anyone is making fun of Mormons, specifically.
I think they are making fun of people who believe the end of civilization is here, because there have been many such dire warnings in the last couple decades, and none of them have been true.

And because they don't agree with you you wish them harm ? I call that mean spirited and yes ugly of you too. Just because I don't stockpile stuff for whatever someone is saying is going to happen I surley don't wish ILL WILL on my felloow man/woman. It's people who wish ill on others that I am truly scared of because at some point they start to act on those ill feelings.

I remember the first time I heard this - I was around 10 so I don't get to worked up over it since I have lived another 61 yrs longer than the first time I heard it. Hell, if it happens tomorrow so be it. I'll probably say "it's about time"

@hickle-you haven't been around for almost a month. Any updates on your friend who received his 5th DUI/DWI conviction? Was he sentenced to jail/prison (which you vehemently did not want to happen) or did he just get told by the sentencing judge not to drink and drive again (which you preferred as his punishment).
