I used to wear Dickies pants to work, but the juniors sizes... doubt they'd fit or be appropriate anymore, lol. Where would you guys advise looking for nice black pants and tops? I have to wear black for my concerts and I need some new stuff. Long skirts are ok but I haven't found any good ones yet... need a new pair of black pants and some tops, they need to be 3/4 sleeve at least. I haven't bought a new pair of nice dressy pants in ages.

I don't shop for shoes at DSW or Burlington - they don't seem to carry many wide sizes. I tend to buy walking sneakers from Dick's and dressier shoes from Foot Smart.

I buy dressy pants fromMacy's or Dillard's/Belk. I sometimes find blouses and tops there, but more often find tops at TJMAXX or Marshall's.

Lately it's been Nordstroms, Loft and Anthropologie. I'm top heavy and the cuts and length on clothing work better for me at those stores than at cheaper ones. I just got my second box from Stitch Fix and I'm not sure I'll continue. Haha I was just going say I wish it was Nordstrom Zara and Anthopplogie but more like Kohls in reality

When I worked, it was Anne Taylor and Banana Republic. I liked the fit of their cloths and the stores are organized. I honestly have barely shopped for myself recently. I bought some workout cloths from Old Navy, but can't buy regular cloths there because they do not flatter me.

Most of my clothes are from Kohl's, TJMaxx, Ross, or Marshall's. For dresses lately, I've noticed that Ross has a pretty decent selection. The latest 2 dresses I bought, I do have to hem, but I've found some petite dresses too. I've also had luck at Dress Barn too.
For DH, he tends to buy his work clothes from JCPenney's while his regular clothes are from Target mostly.
For DD, many of her clothes are from Kohl's or Walmart. Mostly, I'm staying away from Walmart now as many of her character shirts aren't looking too great anymore (the character iron-on thing isn't staying together anymore). I've had luck buying her clothes at Target too.

Macy's is a good place to look because they often have stuff on sale. Sometimes you can get some ridiculous prices there - and sometimes not.
I like White House / Black Market. If nothing else - you know they will always have black pants and black shirts. One year Ann Taylor went navy and I am still holding a grudge.

I stopped shopping at Burlington years ago because a lot of their clothes didn't fit quite right
The TJ Maxx here is the same way. I swear it's all rejects from the "designer" warehouses that they can't get away with putting their name on but still want to be able to make a buck.
I shop pretty much where ever. JCP is my main go to for things like tops. I am loyal to Maurices right now for jeans b/c they have extra short inseams and a good selection of midrise jeans.
I shop at thrift stores pretty regularly. I have a Salvation Army not too far away from my house. I am one of those weirdos who likes to rummage thru the racks to find the one good piece of clothing in my size.

Generally, Walmart and Target. The occasional undergarment at Lane Bryant. Kids are all over the place. Oldest buys his own clothes now and for DD I will shop at whatever store sells pants that actually fit her. American Eagle has done decent at that and not falling apart in 5 wears from thigh rub. Youngest is easy, he's a boy. I'm not above thrift stores either. I'm too broke to be fussy.

My weight is up and down and I am not someone who spends a lot on clothes unless it's for my very specific shoe size that freaking no one seems to carry. (8 1/2 W) If I find a pair of shoes under $50 that fits, I buy it. Funnily enough my last pair was gifted to me by someone who's size 10, so... I hate losing and gaining weight for this reason, it mostly comes into and out of my feet! Anyway, for clothes I now shop at Goodwill. If my weight is going to go up and down like it has been, no way am I going to pay excessive amounts of money for clothes.

I actually found a great pair of concert pants at Kohl's yesterday, a Vera Wang brand I think, nice basic streamlined pull on black pants. I was disappointed to see their khakis have changed, both the fabric and the fit, so my fat legs no longer fit them well and they feel cheap and stretchy maybe I'll check JCP for pants.. my problem is my hips are big and my legs are too fat (they really aren't) for skinny fits, so if I get pants to fit my hips/legs, the waist is so astronomically big they fall down. If I just drop the 10lbs I've put on in the last 3 months my pants will fit fine again.. and I'm annoyed because that'll take some time and my running and good eating today will not immediately make my pants fit well Monday.

For jeans, I usually go to either Kohl's or Eddie Bauer. Shirts, Eddie Bauer and most recently Duluth Trading Co. I just ordered 4 of their long sleeved t shirts with the long tail, hopefully they really are long.
For professional clothing, most of my stuff was from Talbots. I recently ordered 2 new sweaters from Boden that I'm waiting for them to arrive.
Shoes, I order a lot online. We just got a DSW here, so bought a pair of Merrills there. Right now, I REALLY want a pair of Cole Haan booties I saw online. I do want to check them out at the outlet mall (or the shoes themselves to see how they run) before I pull the trigger and order them.

I went to the outlet mall today, got a pair of lucky brand skinny jeans for $19.99, a pair of levis 501 that I will wear for years and years for $14.99 a long cardigan sweater coat for $30 at bananna republic and a black T for $6 at J crew. Pretty fantastic shopping day. So that is my fall shopping done maybe 1 or 2 sweaters and I am set till next year. I also ordered a pair of lucky brand ankle boots on amazon had a $75 gift card so after tax and shipping I spent $53 on those. YAY

I haven't bought a new pair of nice dressy pants in ages. For the pants, I would try Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, J Crew, The Limited and Express. I used to get all of my dress pants at Express until they changed something about their fabric/fit a few years ago, so I've had way less luck there than before. We have outlets for AT, Loft, BR and JCrew near us, so if I'm looking for dress pants, I like to go there and pick a store and start trying on pants. If I don't find anything, I move on to the next one until I find something that works.

When I was 30-40 pounds smaller I'd spend up to 120 on a work dress, 80 on pants, and 50 on a top without blinking an eye. Mainly from J Crew, Ann Taylor, and Banana republic. Now I am not working and not happy with my weight. I only buy something when I must. And I buy either on super sale at J Crew when it is 50-70% off or from Old Navy or Macy's also on sale. I don't mind Marshalls or TJ Maxx when I am in the US, but since living overseas the last 6 years I usually buy clothes online. I do like some of the stuff at Target too.
I've always thought of myself as a classic style, and conservative/modest dresser. There are just some things I don't feel are appropriate over the age of 25. Now I am only 33, but a few years ago I was working with a fuddy duddy older woman and we went on a business trip and we had a couple of similar looking shirts. I was really embarrassed especially when people were commenting on it. It wasn't so much her age, but her personality and general fussiness that bothered me most. I mean I know a button up is a button up is a button up, but I decided I needed to start going for a "younger" look. I was afraid of becoming frumpy. Now some of that I think had to do with my weight, but also the need to "look older" because I've usually been in positions of management and dealt with people 10-20 years older than myself. I have to remind myself that I don't need my clothes to make me look experienced anymore.
I am not sure if I'll ever go back to just buying what I want without thinking of price.

I tend to buy from the clearance rack at Banana Republic, the Gap, or Kohls. I have had some decent luck with the Jones New York as well for work wear.
Mostly, I'm super cheap. I refuse to spend more than $30 for most items of clothing. I've made some exceptions for suiting pieces and dresses, but even then $75 is the absolute most I'll spend.

A significant chunk of my current wardrobe is from Eddie Bauer Outlet. (Their pants seem to fit me well right now.)
I also have a ton of clothes from Target, mostly plain t-shirts and cardigan sweaters. I have a few things from LOFT as well.
Most of my recent shoes have come from DSW or Amazon. I recently discovered the Born brand and have some ballet flats and sandals from them that I love.

I love the Naturalizer style but they aren't wide enough so I keep to Munro American from Nordstrom plus 3 Nike Mary Jane's I got there b4 they stopped making EW. Both brands have removable innersoles (necessary after 6th toe removed)

I agree everything I buy at kohls fits weird and does not hold up well. I used to buy things at kohls because they seemed like a good deal then barely ever wear them. I am breaking that habit and only buying things I love and good quality.

The pants I got at Kohl's over the last 1-2 years have been ok, the new version of them definitely seems cheesy. The pants I just got will get relatively light use, so hopefully they'll last a while. So aggravating to have to search all these places for new pants I like... then when I find some that work they end up discontinuing or changing them immediately story of my life.

I have lost weight and have gone through everything in my closet and have very little left to wear. I am trying to get some staples to last me through... Not knowing if/ when I might drop another size. I hate spending money on non quality pieces, but can't afford to go all out. Trying to build with inexpensive basics and use accessories for interest ... This becomes easier in fall/ winter, fortunately!

I have never really understood this. I buy my pants in neutrals- but I don't see how buying tops in a specific color only benefits me. I buy a Green sweater or a purple sweater and make sure I can wear it with my black and white pin striped pants, with brown pants, with a few skirts etc. ditto any other color. I don't understand how limiting your self to a single color or no color is beneficial? maybe I just don't understand how that works?

I don't understand how limiting your self to a single color or no color is beneficial? maybe I just don't understand how that works? I'm with you. I keep my pants (not a skirt wearer) in neutrals; black, brown, and gray. Sweaters I also tend to keep in the neutral; blue, gray, brown, and white. Blouses I go wild with color. I think I've mentioned this, but I'm into obnoxious paisleys at the moment and having great fun with them. I think your best bet would be to try to find some blouses/shirts that are on the unstructured size that can withstand some weight-loss without looking sloppy. Tailored blouses can be tricky when there are fluctuations. I've also had the recent discovery (I'm sure I'm behind the curve on this) that I can really get more use out of some of the more see through flowy blouses. I wear a tank or camisole under during the summer and in the winter I wear a long sleeve under layer along with a cardigan or jacket. It's nice not having to have 2 full separate wardrobes for work. There are obviously some that don't bridge well between 90 and 20 degrees but I've found a good portion does. I've had good luck with JCP pants. They hold up well, aren't expensive, and seem to wear like iron without looking like they do. That's kind of what i'm thinking- There is a huge trend right now with oversized sweaters. So I can buy it now and it is fitted, but as shrink through winter it becomes looser but still looks find and "on trend" I can pair it with skinny trousers and boots and it will be fine once they are fitting more loosely. Same with dresses that aren't structured. I can get more mileage out of them and they are more forgiving regarding weight. I have picked a few that I think will transition from being sleeveless in the summer with sandals to being paired with a cardigan and leggings or tights during the fall/winter. I am making sure that most items can pair easily with jeans or other weekend wear. I just picked up some long sleeved boatneck tees at target. They are basic and I can pair them with a skirt or trouser or even skinny pant for work- add a scarf and everything ties together. I can loose some weight and they'll be okay- especially with a scarf. Luckily- because of the design of my skirts- most of them I can still wear. this helps out so much because I have over a dozen.

For dresses, I usually shop at Macys. For casual clothes, I will shop at Kohl's when I receive a 30% coupon and there is a sale. I usually buy off season, so can get good deals. Kohls does sell Dockers and Lee products so that's what I'll buy for shorts/capris/casual pants. The suggested retail price is around $48 but I've never paid more than $12. Since I'm retired, my wardrobe consists mostly with this type of clothing. Also, they do sell Fila workout clothes so I'll get those there as well.

FYI in case anyone wasn't aware when you have any Kohl's coupons for % off the total bill Nike will not allow it. So anything Nike will be full price, I found this out the hard way.
