Gee...thanks a lot MUD, what a nice person you are. LOL you cant expect any more than that from him Well, you know, I keep hearing from various people that he is much nicer IRL, and I still don't get that.

I hope that they never get rid of plastic bags.....I use about 4 of them each week to scoop kitty litter. If I don't get them, I'll wind up having to buy plastic bags anyway.
I do have reusable bags and I use them until my stock of plastic bags gets down. Then I'll stop using them for a couple weeks in order to restock.

I get some plastic for disposing of kitty litter and trash, but I try to take my own. I always pack meat in plastic bags, even if I have the cloth bags with me.
The canvas bags are so much easier to pack and carry. You can fit more into them. Plus they're great for other things. At Christmas they're great for toting around gifts or food to parties.

I hope they don't ban plastic grocery bags. I like them for throwing out stinky diapers and lining small bathroom trashcans. And, like The J, I also have quite a large stash.
What no one has EVER been able to explain to me is what is the difference between plastic grocery bags and plastic trash bags. I'd like to think that I am reusing, in some small way, since if I didn't have plastic grocery bags, I'd just have to buy plastic trash bags, which would ALSO just go in a landfill. It's so confusing...

It doesn't. However, I don't use hardly of my plastic bags since I don't have cats (to use your example). While I recycle mine, I could just as well throw them in the plastic trash bag. I'm amazed how quickly those things accumulate.

As long as 25 years ago when I lived in Germany, you either brought your own bags or toted your groceries home in your pockets. It only had to happen to me once before I made sure that I went to the market with my own cloth bags! At most German stores now you can buy plastic bags when you check out, they are a higher quaity than what you get in the states. But still almost everyone either brings cloth bags or I sometimes see people taking the groceries out to the car where they transfer them to boxes or baskets kept in their trunk. DH and I learned early on that the bags live in your trunk that way you are never without them. I switched to cloth when we moved to Germany because we are on a 3rd floor apartment and I can carry more in cloth bags on my shoulders than you can carry in plastic in your hands. I don't think I'll ever go back to plastic now that I am used to going with cloth.
