I see some stores with bins to collect bags to recycle. I don't know how successful that is.

They were going to implement a charge for plastic bags in Seattle, it was not received well.

A few stores in my area (like the drug-store chains and smaller stores) have already started to implement a five-cent charge for plastic bags. I don't think it will be too long before we see the larger grocery stores implementing the same thing.

I use the canvas bags as much as I can, but take a break every once in a while to get plastic bags. They work out well for the kitty box. I have heard about the lead concern with the recycle bags. I am not really concerned about it but Publix and a couple other grocery stores started recalling them. I wash my bags from time to time so that the bacteria isn't that much of a worry either, but I always have them put my meat in a plastic bag inside the recycle bag so I don't have to worry about any leakage from the meat. I doubt we will ever have a completely "plastic free" grocery store, but Aldi charges for the plastic bags here.

I use them for recycling and for storing bread. Thankfully, I have a few hundred of them stored away.

I'm amazed they are charging for plastic bags somewhere given how hard it is to get paper ones.

Don't they make biodegradable bags now too? Probably too expensive for stores to bother though. We use our plastic bags for trash liners and for walking the dog. Since I switch between paper, plastic and my own fabric bag, I'll just end up having to pay to create that waste They're talking about banning them here now too, maybe it's time for me to stock up...

I foresee The J hoarding plastic bags. Hey! I keep them neatly contained within a clay jar thingy. Just happens to be I can fit a lot in there.

I mostly use canvas (also get 5 cents off per bag), but sometimes I go ahead & get the plastic because I use them to line my garbage can. If they outlaw the plastic, I'll actually have to buy garbage bags. (Unable to find emoticons. Insert sad face here).

I have quite a few reuseable ones but I usually forget them and leave them in the car.

I get paper bags every so often so I have a supply of wrapping paper when I mail something. They work well. I ask for paper every once in awhile to entertain my cats. ;D

I usually bring my own bags, but every once in awhile I will get the plastic because I use them in my bathroom trashcans. I don't worry about bacteria in them. I don't plan on licking the bags....and I was all produce before I use it...I can't imagaine what I would be putting directly in my mouth from the bags.... Same here Angel!

I am in such a dilemma. I have to go shopping today and I have no idea how I want to get my grocery's home. Maybe they will just let me drive my truck up and down the isles so I wont have to make that decision ;D

I was online last night googling around for the best reusable grocery bag. Nothing too much but I did discover that you look for a bag with a durable bottom. As you reuse the bags, they weaken over time as expected. You could also buy specific bags which only increases what you will need to carry into the store. One bag for produce, another for canned goods, one for dairy, you get the picture. A big thougth process for grocery shopping. I actually have store-issued re-usables that I have had for over 5 years. They have served well. I do think I want to make some with canvas which will be easier to wash and will last even longer than the store-issued, Chinese made.
