So, someone posted a link to an 'article' about Gardasil. It takes me all of 30 seconds online to see that the 'article' is misquoting, making erroneous claims and has been soundly proven innacrate.
So. I post that. No response. Someone else posts about how this is why they will not let their kids get it.
I asked if it matters that the source was innacrate and untrue.
The he one who posted said I wasn't going to change anyone's minds.
I said i wasnt trying to change minds on Gardasil, just asking whether or not the truth of a source matters in research...
Again. I guess I should just let this go..... ?

Some people aren't interested in facts. They already know they are correct, so why bother.

I got into this with one of my friends on Facebook. After some back and forth about it probably being unrealistic that her sons would choose to never have any type of sexual contact with anyone before marriage I told her I wouldn't let my girls date her boys if they weren't vaccinated. So I guess I did try to change someone's mind and it didn't work. I just ended up unfollowing her.

I am more scared that people think anything they read on online is true... Some of them seem incapable of examining a source.

I am more scared that people think anything they read on online is true... Some of them seem incapable of examining a source. That is why I don't get into it on Facebook... I try my best to just ignore it; so not worth it. Ex: one of my cousins been on a rant about Planned Parenthood... Stating ignorant "facts" without even any research.... I just keep on scrolling trying to ignore the burning desire to set his idiot ass straight. Not worth it!

I had to resist the urge to reply to a friend who posted probably the same article about gardasil you're referring to...something about Lead Gardasil Creator Confesses to Clear Conscience. Facebook makes it very easy since as soon as you click an article and come back- right below it are "similar" articles. So, right underneath that article were several articles claiming none of it was true. It was even debunked on snopes. I just roll my eyes, take a deep breath and move on.

I can't help feeling scared though, in an impending doom kind of way, that any day now we are going to be feeding plants Gatorade for the electrolytes....

One of my FB friends posts a lot of little prayers; at the end there is usually a request to share. I usually like reading them; I admire people who have faith. The other day, the post said to share and if you didn't, something bad would happen to you. I replied, "Really? God is gonna get me if I don't repost some meme?"
He didn't respond.

I do try to just hide any pp thing.

I thought Huckabee. I will say though that I couldn't watch and was just reading a couple live reports. It's possible the primary source would disprove what I understood. I will try to find a transcript...
ETA: ii think it was this “I think the next president ought to invoke the Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendments to the Constitution now that we clearly know that that baby inside the mother’s womb is a person at the moment of conception,” Huckabee said, adding that “the Supreme Court is not the supreme being.”

I love that movie partly because I'm convinced instead of it being a dumb comedy it's an eerily accurate predictor of our future. Just look at our current Presidential race. The "lead" candidate's actions aren't dissimilar to the President in Idiocracy - and that's what people seem to want right now. We're doomed.

I get similar crap like that in my personal email or used to. I've tried convincing them it is just a new age chain letter, but some think it cannot hurt. I've emailed most of the offenders at least once to let them know I will not share such stuff nor will I email it back. It will die, possibly not even read by me. My least favorites are the ones that exhort you to also send back to the sender.
To prove you are a good friend or some such.

Many people are not interested in accurate information or truth; they are only interested in affirmation of what they already believe. The more bat-crap crazy their beliefs are, the more adamant they are that any attempt to insert reason and actual facts into the discussion is just part of the "conspiracy." Sometimes they will claim to be "oppressed" if anyone attempts to point out that what they are advocating is manifestly nuts. For some reason, it makes them feel virtuous to believe that they are being oppressed.
You cannot have a normal conversation with people like that. It is generally best just to unfollow them on FB and avoid them IRL as much as possible since their main talent is making sensible people want to punch them in the face.

It WAS a harmless and funny movie before I started seeing the stupid multiply at an exponential rate. Now I really see the parallels. I definitely need to re-read 1984. Also need to read The Fountainhead in preparation of the future.

Well sure - if they are oppressed, their failures aren't their fault.

Don't leave! I just scroll past what I don't care to see, no biggie. I love to post stuff that I know my cousins will engage in and we post silly stuff to each other and make fun of each other. I wish everyone on fb could have that kind of sense of humor, however I know that it will never be that way

Don't quit Facebook if you have any friends or family that you like on there. Remove idiots from your feed, and if they are too icky...unfriend them.

But, isn't it better to know who the crazies are? I have a very skeletal Facebook page -- just a few friends/family members/groups and even at that limited level, it has been incredibly eye-opening.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc is all you should post. Most people won't understand it but that also means they can't get mad about it either.

I guess Phil would blame the school systems. These are the same people who didn't vaccinate their kids bc Jenny McCarthy said it causes autism. And now that study she referenced has been completely discredited and she's backpedaling. The damage has been done however. There are people around the world who would die for what we have here yet the idiots keep messing it up.

We need a grassroots voting effort to make sensible people vote then... Maybe Just Say No to Electrolytes!
