Aw. I'm glad to hear the dog continues to improve! I hope he can soon be megaphone-free. I'm just impressed GF put it on. She hates the idea of the cone, and spoils that dog like no other.

Update: Stitches are out.
He's been licking/scratching the scab, so cone is back on.
I told him it is his megaphone to increase volume in his security duties, i.e. bark at the door. I don't think he bought it.

My friends would shudder if they actually knew how much we spend every month on our pets. The food alone is probably 3-400. At least they are not in any puppy classes at the moment because for awhile it was pretty expensive. When I did my budget and saw that w e were spending 900+ per month on the pets I cut back on some things. Throw in the occasional surgery (like running through the woods and being impaled on a stick) and it adds up, but I would not base a healthcare decision for them solely on money. We had a cat with cancer that needed $800 surgery and rationally we knew we could buy a lot of new cats for that much, but he was fairly young so we thought we'd give him a chance. He is 12 now so I consider the money well spent. It sounds like the girlfriend may have some trouble distinguishing needs and wants, but I think stepping in to pay for the dog was necessary I just fainted a little bit. I don't spend anywhere near that much on my kids!!

I don't think he bought it. Throw a treat in the cone. See how long it takes him to find the simple solution of dropping his head so the treat drops to the floor. Or how long he keeps his head up, whipping it around trying to work up enough centrifugal force so that he can somehow get the treat. Do this on carpet so if he falls over from dizziness he won't hurt himself. This little test I inadvertently stumbled on just confirmed how stupid my girl dog is.

Yay for no stitches!
I hope it won't be long before he is healed enough to do without his megaphone.

He keeps smashing the cone into the doorway when going outside. I am considering moving him to a cloth cone, at least it would be more malleable.

I bought one of those soft ones from somewhere and it was much more tolerable for my dog. The big plastic one was a nightmare...she hated it and wouldnt lie down with it on and she had TPLO and really needed to be resting that leg. You just have to make sure they cant reach the site.

I also bought a soft cone for my silly girl dog. She's still ashamed of it, but it's not as uncomfortable for her. And it doesn't hurt me as much when she runs into me with it.
