10K?? Did I miss something? I remember you saying you'd help out if they were a little short of the 10% down, is "a little short" 10K? Dang. I wish you the best. It just bothers me how DD has been treating you so poorly until you're handing over money. And of course this won't be the end of it, because buying a home is EXPENSIVE. She'll suddenly discover all the things she didn't realize she needed and how she can't afford them.

They think I'm borrowing the 10k. I sort of am. But from my brokerage account. So now I owe me 10k

Not another cent! No gifts even. Gift your grandchildren. That girl has gotten enough for a lifetime

Ombud I'm surprised about the 10K too. Didn't they only need 10% down?
This said, I'M SURE THAT'S THE BEST 10 K YOU WILL HAVE EVER SPENT!!!
Also, does DD realize that this is a one-way trip? It took you long enough to get her out, I hope neither of you feel that if it doesn't work out, she can always come back.
ETA: And I'd want every single cent of it back, if only to use it for her kids. But like Zib said, she has gotten enough for a lifetime. Or two or seven.

There might not be a family trip next year (apx 15K per year) In all sincerity, Ombud, that's the kindest thing you can do. DD needs to grow the heck up and she won't do that until she's forced to do that. As long as you're willing to hold her up she'll continue to create trouble for herself and her children. It's time. DS is doing fine and will continue to do fine. He doesn't have DD's entitlement issues from the sounds of it. For both, however, you've done more than enough.

She gave back $800. Won't need it all. I did have her sign a notarized promissory note however. Comes out of her inheritance

Fair enough. If I can't make up to DS what I've spent on DD, that's where I'll make it up. But I think after I help with house down payment I may be a lot closer.

the best thing to do is to bequeath evenly, imho. TOTALLY!! It's 50 / 50 on house / brokerage / Roth / IRA / Insurance / Pension payout less 10k note. Legacy Account goes 100% to trust for GKs until they graduate from a real 4 yr school or turn 30 ... whichever comes first

Ain't that the truth! My brother use to complain about my Mom and Grandmom being in his business all the time. I told him they don't get in MY business..... if you get out of their pockets and start acting like you have some sense, they'll get out of your business. And did he? Of course not.
