Paula Deen sparks yet another race row after posting a photo of her son Bobby in brownface on Twitter - before blaming and firing her social media manager Paula Deen was sensationally sacked from the Food Network in June 2013 68-year-old star had admitted using the N-word and enjoying racist jokes Had also 'planned a themed wedding with black waiters dressed as slaves' Amid scandal, celebrity chef offered a tearful apology for her racist actions But on Thursday, she posted a picture of her son in brownface on Twitter In image, she and Bobby Deen were dressed as 'I Love Lucy' sitcom stars She has since deleted tweet after being condemned by social media users She has also blamed her social media manager for post - and sacked them By Sophie Jane Evans For Dailymail.com Published: 11:36 EST, 7 July 2015 | Updated: 16:49 EST, 7 July 2015 She was sensationally sacked from the Food Network after admitting to using the N-word, enjoying racist jokes and wanting to plan a 'plantation-style wedding' with black waiters dressed like slaves. But it seems that celebrity chef Paula Deen has not learned her lesson from her 2013 dismissal - after she posted a photo of her adult son in brownface on her Twitter page on Tuesday morning. In the image, a beaming Paula and her 45-year-old son, Bobby, are seen posing behind a kitchen counter dressed as Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, the stars of the popular CBS sitcom, I Love Lucy. Alongside the controversial photo, 68-year-old Paula wrote: 'Lucyyyyyyy! You got a lot of esplainin’ to do! #TransformationTuesday.' She has since deleted the tweet and image from her page - and has even fired her social media manager, whom she claims was responsible for the online post. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3152456/Celebrity-chef-Paula-Deen-posts-photo-son-Bobby-brown-face-Twitter-just-two-years-sacked-Food-Network-racism-scandal.html

Yes. Was that really a question?
Okay, maybe not a complete idiot, I think she has refrained from wearing the Confederate Flag as an apron . . . at least so far.
Just SMH at this woman. She is dense & duplicitous at a minimum.

Not an idiot. I live in the South, and there is a certain segment of white southern society that considers racist jokes the height of humor and who wouldn't see anything insulting in brown or black face.
Her problem is that she hasn't spent enough time outside of her own circle of friends and relatives in Savannah so she doesn't understand that most of the rest of us don't find that shit funny.
I had a co-worker like this. A very smart engineer, but during the first Obama election, she forwarded around some cartoons showing Obama as a monkey in a banana tree, which she thought was hi-lar-ious. She couldn't understand why we got pissed.
Although to be fair to Southerners, I'm sure you can find people like Dean and my co-worker just about anyplace, but in parts of the South I think they're less likely to be covert about it.

Welcome to the south. Even though some will disagree it's still 100% accurate with many (what Happy posted above). And to answer your question. Yes.

Yes it's a dumb thing. But riddle me this. A week or so ago there was a YouTube video going around that everyone on the news was touting as amazing. It was a white person (forget whether it was make or female) using make up to make them look like celebrities. Several of different ethnicities. That was good, but this is bad. I'm missing the difference.

The picture of her son in brown face was from 2011. Idiot female (not a lady) & clueless son. Wonder how his TV show is still airing now that it's out

She went through a hell of a time to get back at least in some peoples' good graces. Did she not learn anything from her previous public problem?
While this is not necessarily the end of the world for her and nor should it be, the woman needs to get some better advisors and run her ideas through them. Some diversity training wouldn't hurt her and her advisors and family either.

I didn't think the picture was racist. Just seemed like an awesome costume.
I was super glad when all the shit went down with Paula Dean - she annoyed me. Getting her off TV was such a relief.

Is it now racist to go to a costume party in any costume other than someone of your own race?

Then I guess my hubs and I went as Sonny and Cher - with him as Cher - it was totally sexist.

Why is this photo offensive or "insensitive" exactly?

Why is this photo offensive or "insensitive" exactly? Because if you hate black people, you aren't allowed to appreciate one of the the most beloved TV shows of all time? Because if you hate black people, you must hate Hispanic people too? Because the only reason you would dress up like someone during Halloween is to make fun of them for being born?

Why is this photo offensive or "insensitive" exactly? we should ask her. She deleted it from her twitter account, fired her social media manager and apologized to all those offended.

Arnaz was not nearly as dark skinned as portrayed in the Deen photo. Additionally her son's hands have not been covered with dark makeup. Blackface/brownface. The photo is also (allegedly) from 2011, before her troubles.

Right, but after she was inundated with (I shame myself by acknowledging this word) "tweets" by angry, offended followers. Rule one of celebritydom is that if the public is making a huge stink over nothing, celebrity does not attempt to convince them they're making a huge stink over nothing. These are people who spend their lives "tweeting" on social media, following every bit of detritus spewed out by their list of celebrity twits. The last thing on Earth you want to do is suggest their criticism is irrelevant.

They might have gone darker because studio lights wash you out. In theater, which isn't nearly as many or as powerful lights, stage makeup is always a few shades darker. It looks interesting outside of the stage lights.
Plus I think I've seen people get outraged when they color their other skin too.

I really don't like this lady - but I have to say that she is being villianized because the interwebz is boring.

White people wearing makeup to appear brown or black for no no legitmate reason can and does bring back bad memories/charges of racism against white people making fun of the color of black people. For example: The guy is way too dark to be Arnaz. Arnaz was not that brown. This is much ado about a previous smallish something that just came to light. The photo was taken in 2011 as I earlier said, and before her troubles of 2013. The assistant who released the photo the other day has been supposedly terminated. That should be the end of it. The photo was removed.

I agree, it doesn't seem racist, but it would be very poor judgment to do that type of costume after her previous incident, but it appears that the photo predates that one. But that doesn't mean she isn't racist.
