‘For the glory of God': Entire staff in Tenn. county clerk’s office resigns over same-sex marriageTOM BOGGIONI 04 JUL 2015 AT 12:07 ET The entire staff at a Tennessee county clerk’s office submitted their resignations this week rather than issue same-sex marriage licenses, reports WBIR. Decatur County Clerk Gwen Pope — along with employees Sharon Bell and Mickey Butler — said their last day on the job will on July 14, and that they are leaving because the Supreme Court’s decision to allow same-sex marriages clashes with their religious beliefs. ... So, there will be new job openings at the county clerk's office? Cool.
Maybe the quitting employees can find new jobs not baking cakes. Bonne chance.

I do respect that they quit because there was a conflict between their beliefs and doing what's not only right, but required under the law.
Having voluntarily quit, they are ineligible for unemployment.
Now that there are job openings in Decatur County, maybe they will get people who want to do the right thing (and follow the law).
ETA: I've always said variations of "If you don't want to serve all the people, don't do/have/keep/take a job that requires you to serve all the people". This was actually the right choice. The don't want to serve all the people, so they are not keeping a job where that's a requirement.
They believe that the requirements of their faith are more important to them than fulfilling the requirements of the job. I honestly applaud them for doing the right thing based on that belief.

Government should get out of the marriage business. Marriage should be a private affair between consenting adults and should not involve the government. It was that way for centuries.
If government is involved in marriage then it should not discriminate. The people should have lost their job. There is a huge difference between government and private business. Private business owners should be allowed to bring their values to the business they open.

cool. more jobs for atheists! how about 'more jobs for humans'? seriously. there must be at least a few christians out there who believe love and (by extension) marriage should be for all, not just a select group. everyone needs and deserves love.

not familiar with that term. what do you mean by "sanctuary cities"? Sanctuary Cites-- those that will not cooperate with DHS or ICE regarding deportation. When an undoc breaks the law and is jailed, sanctuary cities refuse to notify the feds on release on bail or charges dropped even if the feds have formally requested notification

It also states that bakers are forced to convert to homosexuality, so it's wrong on many levels. Nobody wants bakers to become gay...just do your job. If you make wedding cakes, then make a wedding cake.

If government is involved in marriage then it should not discriminate. The people should have lost their job. There is a huge difference between government and private business. Private business owners should be allowed to bring their values to the business they open. Totally disagree. Marriage has always been a state concern in order to determine the legitimacy of children, who has power over another - think parents for kids, spouses over partners in the hospital, etc. For centuries government has recorded such. Do you think the census in the Gospels referred to a church census not a town, country, i.e. government one?
If anyone wants to create another layer of marriage that can only be bestowed by whatever church they attend have at it. But do not expect it to give you protections under secular law for things property rights, right of spouse or even adult children to advocate for you medically. Render to Caeser those things of the world, i.e secular concerns. Just a few which are outlined above.

Didn't realize selling a product was an act of conversion. If it is, maybe they shouldn't sell that product.

The irony is that there are always power struggles, and power shifts from time to time. It's "interesting" how when one group starts to take power away from another group, the group and supporters of that group who obtain the power will often use the same tactics/attacks that it complained about being used against it in the past. In this case, it happens to be against Christians, in other cases it's against other religions, people based on skin color, gender, sexual preference, etc.
