You mean you missed it? One poster kept telling everyone that white rice was healthy and everyone else was like "you be crazy"  And it was all rolled into the goodness that is a thread talking about what poor people should and shouldn't be eating.  |

Was there a book thread on here? I'm wondering if anybody has ever read any F. Scott Fitzgerald other than The Great Gatsby? Cause I just started The Beautiful and the Damned and I'm really hoping somebody is going to tell me it gets better. Eek!

Bogleheads is a heavily moderated forum, but they laydown the rules pretty even-handedly and even cite the forum rule on why a thread was closed. Long threads typically are closed because “they have run their course”. Those threads that just go on forever are pretty useless in my view and should be closed. I was in another forum where there were so many of those long threads going (that haven’t been shut down) that it clogged up the front page.

After so long, people are only repeating what has already been said. However, I'm betting there are some people here who only get to visit on the nights or weekends or only on occasion. To them, the thread is brand-new and they would like to have their say - even if it is already at 562 pages. I just stop reading when I get bored or see the same stuff over and over. |

Obviously no one cares about my super intelligent, superior post on the original topic as everyone moved on to coke and bacon.
I love coke but don't eat bacon (although, love the smell of cooked bacon). Thus, I am in favor of anyone who eats bacon and washes it down with coke. Regular coke, not that silly thing called diet coke or zero coke or other such nonsense

I haven't read the Great Gatsby yet. Just watched the movie. Not familiar with that book but read an unfinished one, whose title I can't remember. It was about 1920s Hollywood.

It just has a LOT of descriptive stuff that I feel is just "filler". Lots of over-describing the clothing, the carpet, the wallpaper, etc. Perhaps it will be important later on.....but I get it already!!!! |
