If he gets hungry enough, he'll eat what you give him. Or he will learn to feed himself. Either way it's a win for you. He just goes & gets fast food. And then gripes that he's overweight. Well....I provide plenty of healthy options at home. It's not that we don't have food, its just not what he wants. The girls do that. They say there's nothing to eat and I suggest a few things they can make themselves out of the fridge. They don't want that. So I tell them to starve. Thing 1 has a car and a job now so they will go get food.

How can you expect them to want to eat healthy if Dad is just going out to get himself goodies instead?

Exactly. DD now thinks she can just hold out for a cheeseburger. Sorry kiddo. It's not going to work that way.

I only like grocery shopping because the store has an olive bar. I came home from Fresh Market the other day and had 4 containers from the olive bar. I just shook my head in shame - NOT!!! Not to mention 2 others from the deli counter. I love their pimento cheese. Sorry, I just started reading the thread. Count me as another Fresh Market fan. I want to stand over their olive bar with nothing but a fork! And they sometimes have a cold shrimp salad that's excellent - I've made pasta salad with it, leftover cooked pasta and the olives. My peeve is the folks who go up to the deli counter and decide to snack their way through it. My store offers samples of meats and cheeses before you buy, which is nice, but come on, people! It's a sample, not a smorgasbord!

I liked it reasonably well when we lived in Phoenix. Picking out my own produce and seeing things on sale is nice.
But then we moved to Florida. The stores are nice, and I still like to pick out my own produce, but it's just torturous to try to get in and out of the stores in any reasonable time frame. Between the retirees who treat the store as their social outing or are barely ambulatory and the tourists who are jet lagged, confused and don't know where to find anything... it can be a supreme test of patience. I'm not talking about one lone person toddling through the middle of the parking lot with a walker; if that's all there was to deal with that would be a good, fast day. I understand all of this on an individual basis and try to be patient, but when it's so bad that you can't buy ice cream because it melts before you can get it to the car, much less get out of the parking lot, it's just frustrating.

We have lots of seniors who come into the grocery store every single day and I do think it is their only social interaction. They do like to slowly do everything and stop and talk ect. Just a hint though most of them can't drive at night any more.

I wish I could still do my parents' grocery shopping. My dad's stopped when I went to the house to get his list and he was dead, heart attack during the night. My mom's stopped 8 years later when she gasped herself to death. First world problems, blah blah. I would give anything to still be doing their shopping. I still don't know what to do with myself. I am thinking about volunteering to do grocery shopping for elders in my area. That's a wonderful idea!

It's a sample, not a smorgasbord! We have a seafood salad bar, olive bar and they are putting in a regular salad/soup bar plus the regular deli stuff. They are enlarging ours so lots of goodies going in. Whole Foods is moving into building directly across from FM so I guess that is why they decided to enlarge to be little more competitive with WF. I luv my FM though.

I luv my FM though. Same for our FM. They got rid of all the health and beauty stuff in an effort to make more room for food. From Day One, our FM has been packed.
