I only like grocery shopping because the store has an olive bar. When they put in wine bars I might possibly get a little more enthusiastic about it! Just grab a bottle of your choice on the way to checkout ETA: I misread your post. I thought you wanted wine at the olive bar So never mind.....

I don't mind grocery shopping now that I'm retired. It's become a form of recreation, but I try very hard not to be one of "those" people who don't know where they're going or where they are or what they came for or how to move to the side so people can get by.
The only time I really don't like grocery shopping is when I miss the memo and go on Stupid People Day. Like today. I went to the grocery store today. It was apparently Stupid People Day. I didn't like it. While I do hope you enjoy your recreational shopping. And I appreciate that you attempt to not block aisles and the like. Do you think you could stop by my local grocery store and do a little training with the recreational and social shoppers who put two carts side by side in the narrow aisle and chat, so nobody can get by them until they have completed their conversation. Or place their cart next to the in aisle display and proceed to read the complete ingredient declaration on seven different brands of beans to confirm that the beans do, in fact, contain beans, which will give them gas. Generally, I like seniors. I plan to be one soon. Unfortunately, some seem to be pretty oblivious to everything going on around them.

The price of eggs has tripled for the restaurants and probably will at the grocer. Buy a bunch of eggs whites while I can. Back to topic. I like to shop. It's a challenge to me to get the best bargains to fill my pantry. I like the coupons from one store that are huge savers plus a free item. We don't get doubling but can take in a brand coupon along with the store coupon. One time DH gripped me out of taking groceries with me to visit our home town. We'll buy groceries there. I felt like I was stabbed in the heart when we paid nearly a dollar for mac and cheese that I had in the pantry for 14 cents. Yes, I feel strongly about bargain shopping. I put the brand and price on my list because the grocers bait and switch sometimes. The receipts show how much saved in dollars as well as percent of purchase. The one thing I successful at.

That would be awesome. But it's not available here. Nor are any other services that deliver groceries. The best I could come up with was to join a CSA for fresh stuff that I could pick up once a week and use Amazon for the other goods. The CSA worked reasonably well initially, but it was pretty expensive. And the quality suddenly took a downturn with crappy produce being included (rotting, looked like it was run over by a truck, etc.) and towards the end a lot of items not being included but I was still charged for it. So I'm back to making my late night runs to the local grocery store every couple of weeks.

I wish someone in town would grocery shop for me. There has to be other people that would love that. I'm not sure what I would be willing to pay for that but I would be interested if someone did that here. I don't want them from Amazon though I want them from Sentry.

I am home alone almost all the time since retirement and dieting so hardly ever get anything good to eat. Grocery shopping is my outing and chance to get a treat. I am careful and get things I can and should eat then one or two treats. Yesterday I got baked chicken and corn curls and fresh cherries. I only shop the outsides of the store so start in produce then bulk food then dairy end up with the exact same food except my treats and fresh veggies or fruit. I go during the work day since I am retired and enjoy the drive having somewhere to go and deciding which veggies to get. I couldn't order on line because I don't know what I want until I see it and want a bargain do I got zucchini for 68 cents a pound when I didn't even want any and cherries for almost $4 a pound just because they were pretty. I don't like carrying the bags to the house but I sometimes leave pop or something for another time.

Except for the presence of other shoppers clogging the aisles and being totally clueless at checkout (digging for coupons, checkbook, credit card after the ENTIRRE order is scanned & bagged) I sort of enjoy shopping.
I consider it a battle of wits. Me against the stores and sometimes other shoppers. I am also a control freak and would NEVER let anyone else pick out my fruits, veggies or meat. Last week I had zucchini on my list and if I used a shopping service I would have been VERY unhappy. They were HUGE so I skipped buying. I also like the freedom to substitute on the fly or grab a manager's special.

I should have known better than to go to Trader Joe's on a Saturday morning. I love that store but really, can't you choose which ground beef you want without picking up every package and scrutinizing it for five minutes! Then there are the mom' with their kids who let them run wild. Drives me crazy!
i don't generally hate grocery shopping, but some days it's just a pain.

I've got it down to a science and we have self checkout. I'm in and out in less than 20 minutes. I fly thru and dawdlers need to get out if my way. I can go the perimeter in no time at all. I know where everything is.

The two times I did use a cashier they charged wrong and I had to get in service line to get it fixed and something I bought didn't make it into my bag. Never again.

I like grocery shopping. You won't see me b!tching about finding parking, seniors, or putting my shopping cart back. I'm just glad I live in a country where we have enough to eat.

I live on the border, so all the Canadians come here, which is wonderfull, from a financial standpoint. However, they treat it as a social putting, Amd seemed to have checked their common sense at the border. The whole family stands in the middle,of the aisle loudly discussing how much cheaper x is here than in Canada.
Then there are the retired people who shop very slowly on Saturday morning when all the working moms are attempting to run through the store, as well as do 100 other errands.
Then in there is first of the month with the social security and food stamp people. Stay fly, I don't see an abundance of crab legs.
I just want to get my groceries. Get the fuck out of my way.

I think I am going to have to try the honey BBQ way. I really really hate grocery shopping. Even on weekdays - why don't these stinking people have JOBS?! Oh yeah, all getting laid off. $3.50 stupid tax on me this week. Left the case of bottled water on the bottom of the cart when I put it away. Will have to pick up a new case before I do the marathon drive with g-kids tomorrow. Sigh. I am so stupid sometimes

Yep, you have no excuse not to at least try fresh. Now, it's not the super best quality produce, but in general I've been satisfied.

today I went to the grocery store to get lunch from the prepared food section. There was an old man walking to the store in the dead middle of the parking lot aisle at 0.00001 miles per hour.... um, you don't own the f---ing lot - MOVE! Some of us would like to park today!

I love grocery shopping, I really enjoy wandering the isles looking for things I don't know I needed. I'm a great impulse buyer. My wife hates shopping, so I get to have fun wandering around the store. It's one way to insure that I get what I want to eat.
As for the crowds of stupid people, it's kind of like going to Disney without kids, I get the joy of watching everybody else get stressed out, while I wander around doing my thing just happy that I'm not them.

I don't mind grocery shopping (even with my two kids), what I'm getting sick of is creating the list and meal planning. I told DH we need to make a list of all our meals and their ingredients. It would make the list part a little less hellish.

I'm in the "I hate the grocery store too" category, so I try to avoid it as much as possible. I shop for bulk items (paper goods, oil/vinegar, dried fruits, condiments, cheese, butter, etc.) at Costco on Monday nights after work (that's when mine is the least crowded); other bulk food items (flour, grains, beans, nuts, seeds, etc) I get from the serve-yourself bins at the health food store; I get fresh fruits and veggies from my community garden plot or from the farmer's market; seasonally during the year we buy in bulk from a pick-your-own farm and process enough for a year's worth of meals (canning tomatoes, freezing berries, etc); I order beef and chicken in bulk from an organic farmer who raises free-range, grass-fed animals (it goes in the chest freezer); ditto with fish from a local vendor at one of the farmer's markets. I mostly make my own soups, stocks, breads, jams, pastas, sauces, salsas, some condiments, etc from supplies purchased in bulk. Every once in a while when Found Food comes my way, I'll figure out a way to preserve it (freezing, canning, drying, etc). I love to cook - I would much rather cook than shop. But as always - YMMV.

One of the reasons that I have such a well stocked freezer and pantry is that I loathe grocery shopping.
I like to cook, I just don't like the shopping part. So if I find something we like on sale, I buy 10 of them so I have it when I want it.
If money were no object, I'd shop frequently. Buy what I want when I wanted it. Unfortunately, I do have a budget.
As it is, I haven't bought anything but fresh veggies for at least three months.
Trips to the grocery store involve the produce aisle and the $5 buck cluck every other Thursday. I have a huge stockpile I'm working through.

I like grocery shopping but I suck at it. We make a list at home for the next week's meals, but I buy 'off list' items, which is not permitted, according to DH (Mr Cheap). I impulse buy stuff I haven't seen before, or if I'm hungry (bad mistake going to the store hungry) I get stuff I shouldn't eat to begin with. I don't comparison shop to get the cheapest brand, but just grab the can I recognize. I stock up on stuff rather than only buying exactly what we need. This drives DH crazy. DH likes to get what he needs for the least amount possible. He won't shop off the list. He checks the prices and gets the cheapest version of everything (except toilet paper - I put my foot down about that). I would guess he saves at least $20 on each weekly shopping trip he makes. We joke that a good coupon deal makes him orgasm on the spot. Consequently, DH is the family grocery shopper. I do sometimes stop for things we forgot, or items I want, but he does the main weekly shopping. It isn't that we've living on a limited budget - on the contrary. But DH has a mindset that you should never pay more than you have to, and I'm certain our nest egg is as big as it is because of his careful money management, so if he enjoys saving money at the grocery store, that's fine with me. This way I can avoid the families with six screaming kids blocking the aisles.

I am so stupid sometimes I have a job but it's third shift so I have to do my grocery shopping during the weekday because they aren't open when I get out and everyone and their bratty children are at the store on the weekends. Wegmans is open until midnight which would be great except I don't get out until 2 or 3 AM. Sunday shopping sucks around here because a lot of the old folks go from church to the grocery store and take forever.
