I think I am going to have to try the honey BBQ way. I really really hate grocery shopping. Even on weekdays - why don't these stinking people have JOBS?! Oh yeah, all getting laid off. $3.50 stupid tax on me this week. Left the case of bottled water on the bottom of the cart when I put it away. Will have to pick up a new case before I do the marathon drive with g-kids tomorrow. Sigh. I am so stupid sometimes I have a job but it's third shift so I have to do my grocery shopping during the weekday because they aren't open when I get out and everyone and their bratty children are at the store on the weekends. Wegmans is open until midnight which would be great except I don't get out until 2 or 3 AM. Sunday shopping sucks around here because a lot of the old folks go from church to the grocery store and take forever. That's why I do heathen shopping!! You go really early and miss the do gooders - but then I'm one of those ole folks who doesn't go to church or shop on Sunday after 8:30 am.

Yep, you have no excuse not to at least try fresh. Now, it's not the super best quality produce, but in general I've been satisfied. Well carp HoneyBBQ! I have been shopping produce at PCC and Whole Foods. "not super best quality" is not going to make me happy at all Honestly, 90% of it is just as good as I'd pick out. But sometimes in the 3lb bag of apples there's one with a bruise... so I probably would have looked a little more carefully. And the bananas are sometimes REALLY ripe. Often you can select green or yellow bananas and I just get the green ones if I'm not desperate. The only other thing that annoys me is that sometimes they run out of organic stuff (peppers mostly?). That sort of stuff. Not like rotting tomatoes or anything bad like that.

So... I just went shopping. I spent $30 on fruits and veggies-should last us most of the week since only DH and I are consistently home for dinner these days. And we'll eat out at least one of those days.
If I weren't such a control freak I would have someone else buy my groceries and someone else clean my house.

today I went to the grocery store to get lunch from the prepared food section. There was an old man walking to the store in the dead middle of the parking lot aisle at 0.00001 miles per hour.... um, you don't own the f---ing lot - MOVE! Some of us would like to park today! That was pretty vicious. Would you have preferred if he fell and broke a hip? I'd like to see how spry and nimble you'll be when you're a senior.

I would have preferred it if he just walked straight forward to the store instead of trying to cross the parking lot aisle.

And I'm back to the same store... Pulled into a space and watched someone pull up next to me. He saw that going into the space he was too close to me to be able to get out comfortably, so I expected him to pull out and adjust... Nope! His car is literally less than 2 feet from mine - to the point where I don't know if I'll be able to get out. Oh well, I will not give a single solitary f__k if I hit his car.

I feel the same way when it's someone with a three kids darting all over the parking lot while I'm trying to find a parking space. If they can't manage the kiddos then maybe they need to leave them at home. Oh and try to stay off cell while the kids are running around all over the place. They will probably be attending a funeral one of these days Parking lots are dangerous as hell when you are in a car much less in the parking lot on foot with all the people not paying attention. Should say I usually park way away from store so I don't have to deal with all this crap!! But I see it all the time while I walk to the store.

I used to love going to farmers market to pick up produce. Now its all trendy shit. I hate it now. Really getting past time to move north, where things aren't so yuppified!!! I know; at ours you can now buy wine, buffalo meat, and pasta in improbable flavors (chocolate pappardelle? ). I'm sure the town likes it because gross sales are higher when people buy the high-end items, and I'm assuming they get a % of the gross.
My main problem with grocery shopping is the lack of grocery cart etiquette. I'm very careful about not parking my cart exactly opposite someone else's when getting things off the shelves because that blocks the aisle. Inevitably some bozo then parks their cart right across from mine. So I move mine and it happens again. My cart ends up halfway down the aisle.
And, while I like Costco in general, those huge carts are a menace. It would be nice if they provided smaller ones for people who don't have mega-orders but from what I've read about the psychology of retail store design, bigger carts are better because shoppers feel compelled to fill them with merchandise. Not this shopper.

I agree about the carts but in my case at Sam's. If I ever filled up one of those carts someone needs to drop a net over me.

I'm a heathen shopper. I shop early Sunday morning while the good folks are in Sunday School and/or church I may have checked the kids in at church a few times and then left to run errands instead of going to the adult service. And as for the carts, I LOVE the gigantic ones! That means I can throw both kids in there while I shop which 1) keeps them out of other people's hair and 2) makes the trip a LOT faster for me since I don't have to chase little miss everywhere. Now if I could just get DH in a cart. He wanders and makes friends. Between him and DD it is impossible for me to just run into a store quickly. LIttle man is more like his mom. He will smile, but doesn't seek out the attention of most people

Do they have those little shopping carts for kids? Mine would put a live lobster in there and take him for a walk around the store. Kept him busy.

I live on the border, so all the Canadians come here, which is wonderfull, from a financial standpoint. However, they treat it as a social putting, Amd seemed to have checked their common sense at the border. The whole family stands in the middle,of the aisle loudly discussing how much cheaper x is here than in Canada. Then there are the retired people who shop very slowly on Saturday morning when all the working moms are attempting to run through the store, as well as do 100 other errands. Then in there is first of the month with the social security and food stamp people. Stay fly, I don't see an abundance of crab legs. I just want to get my groceries. Get the fuck out of my way. Retired people shop slower because they think their money will last longer

Welts that picture is kinda cute but that is just a BAD IDEA. My kids would be racing down the aisles, yelling at the top of their lungs, and crashing into each other and everything else, both inanimate and animate. Ugh. I just shudder at the thought. Mangled produce and injured people around every corner. Grocery shopping and controlling kids at the same time is hard enough without this sort of thing!
(for the record most people think my kids are well behaved - which they usually are in public.)

Yelling and racing around, crashing into things, just wasn't in his vocabulary. He was content just wheeling his lobster friend around. He didn't make human friends. Consider yourself lucky you have normal kids.

I shop like the store is on fire and I need to get out before the dragging ass around folks come to shop! You know, the dumb ones who can't figure out which can of beans to buy without calling four people on their phones. Iwant to say go to fresh produce!

I really hate shopping at busy stores, there is nowhere to park, people keep darting in front of you, the produce is all picked over, and if someone isn’t in your way, you are in theirs. I feel like I’m playing frogger or something. The anxiety follows me home. Fortunately there are 10 or so stores within a 5 mile radius of home so I can just drive a bit further and shop in one of the quieter neighborhoods.
Weekly trips to the store with my grandmother are the worst though. She always has a prescription to pick-up so we have to go to her insanely busy store, except she actually hasn’t called in the script yet so that will be a 45 minute wait, then it is back and forth across the store as she goes down her list in random order and keeps forgetting things. Then she pays with food stamps and debit, forgets she needs stamps or quarters, so they have to cancel payments, and redo. When I finally, finally get to leave, it’s a slow trek back to Timbuktu where I’ve parked the car because she doesn’t see the need for a handicap permit. If she didn't waste all her own money on frivolous things I'd just grocery shop for her.

Some of you are wound really tight. Take a deep breath and count your blessings. Perspective is not always readily available. It's a first world whine . . . I mean really, there are bigger problems than my hating grocery shopping, but I don't want to whine about the bigger stuff because it is depressing. It was just an emotional vent for a moment in time & then I messed up anyhow by leaving the case of water on the cart (also a big baby diva stupid sort of thing to need). And yeah, I am wound way too frickin tight!!!!

I wish I could still do my parents' grocery shopping. My dad's stopped when I went to the house to get his list and he was dead, heart attack during the night. My mom's stopped 8 years later when she gasped herself to death. First world problems, blah blah. I would give anything to still be doing their shopping. I still don't know what to do with myself. I am thinking about volunteering to do grocery shopping for elders in my area.

I am thinking about volunteering to do grocery shopping for elders in my area. That would be a nice way to remember them and to help seniors that are currently struggling. A lot of seniors seem to get "dumped" by their family and have no support at all. Very difficult as your faculties are deteriorating. It would be a real kindness to help them with activities like this that keep them independent for a little longer. I can't grocery shop for my mother. She kept freaking out that 'there was too much stuff in the fridge'. Not sure what her thing is, but clearly a fridge that is filled with more than one row facing out from each shelf is too much for her to cope with. It is a small apartment fridge too!

I never minded shopping before I got a job there. The weirdest part as a checker is the look on people's face in back of a regular customer. I know they think because we are talking I can't be moving fast if at all. So they get mad and will even say you two can talk if you just check me out at the same time. I always laugh and just say I can't because I am checking this customer out just the register is slower than I am. I know! My favorite was right before Christmas, either Christmas eve or the day before. The average for the register to activate a gift card is 10 to 15 seconds on a slow day. When the computers are taxed it gets up to over 30 seconds. So what does everyone buy as gifts as they get their food? Gift cards. People were walking up with 10 to 20 gift cards. Mostly I would just talk with the customer while the computer activated the cards one at a time, slowly. Then every now and then I would have to explain to people waiting in line that I wasn't ignoring them, just waiting for the registers to finish.

She and I always carry on a small conversation but she never misses a beat scanning things. I never get PO'd if cashier and customer are talking when I'm next cause I know cashier is still scanning. Heck, some people can do more than one thing at a time efficiently!!! And besides at 8:25 AM there aren't that many people checking out in Target on a Sunday Morning I never understodd anyone getting pissed at cashier over stuff. Most if not all things that happen at cash register are not the cashier's fault!!

And then gripes that he's overweight. Well....I provide plenty of healthy options at home. It's not that we don't have food, its just not what he wants.
