Finished Ruby Fever by Ilona Andrews and it was excellent. I had a lot of fun with this one. I now have The Omega Factor by Steve Berry -- I originally believed it was a new Cotton Malone but now I know it's possibility the start of a new series with a different main character. It should be interesting.

Reading Booth by Karen Joy Fowler.
It is historical fiction, but kind of weird. In most historical fiction, the setting and peripheral characters are often based on real people and events. In this case, the main characters are real people with their lives imagined, but with some accuracy I am sure. I believe the author researched, got facts and then fleshed out how she imagined individual's lives were like.

I'm finishing The Sound of Glass by Karen White. AB Mostly a beach read but with some suspense.

Finished reading The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima. It's YA fantasy fiction. I found it to be a mix of Game of Thrones, LOTR and Swan Princess (an animated movie from the 90s). I had to push myself past the first few pages it started out REALLY dry but she picked up steam in the middle of the first chapter just enough to get me to commit to the second chapter.
It's book one in a four book series.
The first book was a gift from a friend. I enjoyed it but not enough to purchase the rest of them, fortunately the library has them so I am going to check out the other three from there.

Reading Terminal Peace by Jim C. Hines. Enjoying this but taking my time reading. Listening to Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs -- still working my way through the series so I can get to Soul Taken. About half way there. I also have a Sharon Sala novel that I want to get into.

I just finished Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. I enjoyed it very much. It is a Memoir of her Life. It has been made into a movie, but I don't think I want to sit through it anytime soon. The father was an Alcoholic and the Mother was probably Bi-Polar or depressed, I think it might be a lot to watch the same story a second time shortly after reading the book. I don't know yet what I am gong to read next. I read this about 6 years ago and thought it was so well written and one I did not want to put down.

I read Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore - The Complete Screenplay and First: Sandra Day O’Connor (by Evan Thomas). Both were in interesting reads for me.

Just finished Red on the River by Christine Feehan. It was good and I enjoyed the suspense and river rafting scenes.

I've just started "The Ink Black Heart" by Robert Galbraith. I've loved the series but the books have become so long that I've opted for the audiobook. I only read at night in bed and I'm usually so tired that I'm falling asleep after 20 minutes. A 1,500 page book would take a year to read!

I finished Long Live The Pumpkin Queen which is a novel sequel to The Nightmare Before Christmas. It was cute and fleshed out some of the side characters. I enjoyed the focus was on Sally. The premise is pretty much the same as Nightmare though. I DID like we get to visit a lot of the other doors that you see in the movie but we don't get to explore. Then I finished Star Wars: The Princess and the Scoundrel which is pretty much a romance story between Han and Leia set after Return of the Jedi. I enjoyed it. I haven't liked much of what Disney has put out novel wise. Probably because a good chunk of them are trying to explain/fix what should have been explained in three movies. This one felt more like it belonged in the old EU. While I have a soft spot for The Courtship of Princess Leia and it did give us Dathomir/Nightsisters which made it into canon that book has A LOT of problems with it's premise. I felt like this new book corrected a lot of what was wrong in Courtship.

I've started in a small group to do the upgraded Purpose Driven Life. It has a website with a message and work sheet that can be filled in. If interested, www.purposedriven.com/day1. If you're interested in the book, the ones on the Purpose Driven website are a little over $10. For how many you have to buy to get that price, I didn't ask. With both groups, about 40 were purchased. A lot of people need an increase in self-esteem. This series will help.

Finally finished These Impossible Things. Not sure where I saw it recommended. Took me a while because I just can't seem to carve out reading time. Need to pick up a book every time I find myself killing time on my phone - reading is so much healthier.
Anyway, it's about 3 young muslim women and their dating lives interweaving their storylines. Pretty good read and opened my eyes to things I never thought about in that culture. I'd like DD14 to read it but there was just a little too much adult stuff in it for now.

Reading Steven Kings’ new book Fairy Tale. Very long, which is typical King. Right now it’s like a cross between the Stand and the Wizard of Oz but I read one review that said it’s an unusual book that starts out as fantasy and at the last third switched genres completely, and I don’t know if I’ll like that.
Listening to the audiobook and the narrator has to do some really extravagant voices, like electrical zombies. He’s doing an excellent job.

DH likes Stephen King and I enjoy his books every once and awhile. We are going to read it together and discuss. I used to do that with my grandma when we read Anne Perry novels together. I thought it would be fun to try to start a mini book club again.

I've been alternating between books on the history of E. Europe since I'm returning there a year from now and lighter fiction. Rather than mention fiction titles, I just wanted to note how much I've enjoyed random searches of the library collection with my Libby app. I set parameters (e.g. Mystery, Available Now), sample the selection and make a choice. There are SO many good writers out there. I'm glad I never tried to make a living at it!
I may actually buy "Black Lamb, Grey Falcon" by Rebecca West, the must-have for anyone interested in Eastern Europe. It's over 1,000 pages and written in 1937 so it's dated and sometimes her attitudes are jarring, but she was a keen observer and an eloquent writer.

Who is the author of These Impossible Things? None of the description for similar titles didn't have that story line.

Finished the Stephen King book. The ending felt like he kind of got bored with the story and closed it as fast as he could. Too simple, compared to the first 4/5s of the book.
Read Five Total Stranger by Natalie Richards for book club. YA thriller. Fast paced but I way overthought it.
Started on The Twisted Ones by T. kingfisher based on my son’s recommendation and in honor of Halloween.
Just started but I like the darkly humorous writing so far.

Just started the first Timmy Failure book with DD10. Reading level 4th-8th grade. We laughed out loud several times last night and are plowing through it. I especially liked the random higher level vocabulary thrown in. Sometimes context made the definitions obvious, and sometimes I had to explain them. Would be a great series for reluctant boy readers. It's just so quirky.
Someone else's review - "With hilarious comic strip illustrations, Timmy Failure is set to be the latest hot read for 9- to 12-year-olds. Full of deadpan humour, visual gags and a twist of the surreal, Stephan Pastis is onto a winner with this new series."

I am listening to Saturn Run by John Sandford and Ctein. This book is just fun. The humor is great and the whole premise is enjoyable. The narrator Eric Conger does a excellent job on the sarcasm and voice inflections.
