It's much better for my health not to drink. I have no problem with other people having a couple but I don't find being around drunk people entertaining. When I want to relax I curl up with a nicely flavoured decaf coffee. Works like a charm.

I've done the Walk of Shame on an early Sunday morning, with my panties balled up in my purse and wondering what city I'm in. Who hasn't? Me. I live a dull and boring life. Me too... I'm surprised welts wears undies at all to be honest.

Doesn't anyone here get a kick out of drunk people, or am I the only one who thinks they are amusing?
I'm not talking about the mean, raging alcoholic, I'm talking about the happy go lucky drunk. Nope. My Ex loved the movie "Arthur". Most of the humor seemed to be about what Arthur did while he was drunk. Yeah, there was that redeeming social value at the end where he took care of his butler in the butler's last few days and found love with Liza Minelli but I still didn't like all the scenes where he was drunk. Maybe they hit too close to home.

I don't find drunks entertaining or fun to be around, never did. I don't care if someone drinks a few drinks or even passes out drunk and sleeps it off but not funny or entertaining, more sad when they overdo it. My dad drank too much at times and even took us in the car when he was drunk, not funny or entertaining at all, once he made mom cry when he was drunk and told her she was cooking chicken wrong. My ex was a dry drunk, meaning he stopped drinking but didn't deal with his problems, when he started drinking again not the least bit funny. I divorced him and he died since he couldn't live without me. I pity people who drink too much, worry about them if I care at all but never find them entertaining.

I drink occasionally. I like wine and various coolers/liqueurs. I could never stand beer of any kind. It tastes like crushed up Asprin in water to me. Alcohol is ridiculously expensive in Ontario. It's a wonder anyone can afford to be drunk here.

My dad was a big drunk. He abused all of his children and I am sure alcohol had a lot to do with that. When I was in high school, late 70's, he got 3 DWIs inside of a month. He was really smart, but a failure at business and much else for most of his life. He wanted to be rich, but did not stay sober for any time. You can't make successs if you can't depend on yourself. He had his demons and maybe used alcohol to try and subdue them, but it was at a high cost to others.
He sobered up about 10 years before he died. Neither of my sisters saw or spoke to him for the last 20 years of his life, except my younger sister once, a few days before he died.

I'm quite content. I stopped fighting my inner demons. We're all on the same side now.

To be clear, the OP's question is "what are your thoughts on alcohol?" My answer: let me go get a glass or two of a nice buttery Chardonnay and I'll get back to you.

I saw the thread title in my "most recent topics" list and thought, "I'm'a make a joke that presumes 'on = under the influence of' and get me all kinds of 'likes'." But I see great minds think alike.

BiMetalAuPt I don't have any particular feelings about alcohol; particularly, not in regard to whether others choose to imbibe it. I just don't particularly like the taste of it. I can drink a bit of wine without a problem but I'd really rather not. I really don't like beer unless it's British dark beer on tap in a really good beer pub in England. Don't like any kind of hard liquor but don't mind some of the liqueur in small amounts (Tia Maria, Bailey's, Creme de Menthe), but rarely bother. Mostly, I drink water. I actually like water. My, my, my. Wasn't I particularly unparticular when writing that mess?!?

I love wine, but I can't have any type of alcohol, it messes with the brainwave entrainment function commands that I do. It is what it is and I deal with it.

I would like to have a drink or 4 or 7. I am just not into it. But people appear to seem like having a few is so calming. I want to be calmed down when I get upset! But I know having a drink is not the way for me.

I grew up in a European household as far as alcohol is concerned. We had wine with dinner. We didn't have it every night mostly because it wasn't practical with our schedule and everyone coming and going at dinner as we grew up, but we did still have it for special occasions and Sunday dinners every week. Even as little kids we could have a glass if we wanted with dinner. When we were little it was a very small glass but we could still have some if we wanted.
So when I read these things about it, it kind of confuses me a little since it was more like a food in my house growing up. DH REALLY should not have things like bacon because of his gall bladder. I don't think bacon is evil or anything though. It is just a food that some people like, that isn't good for others.

We hated it and did not ask again for a long time!

IN PART OF OUR COUNTRY THAT WAS ITALIAN THE AMOUNT OF DEATHS THAT WERE PREMATURE HAS BEEN NOTED TO BE FAR LESS THEN AVERAGE DUE IN PART TO LESS CORONARY EVENTS. THAT WAS BEFORE THE MERLOT STUDIES WERE DONE AT UT DALLAS MEDICAL SCHOOL ( SOUTHWESTERN). TEXAS IS NOW THE NUMBER TWO MERLOT GROWING STATE IN USA. Just a thought, BiMetalAuPt

No not in our house. I will say my family is Portuguese so maybe that is why. Good Portuguese wine is actually "oaky". When we were little it was just a splash really. As we got older I guess we got used to it. We would ask for a sip and get to take one out of mom or dad's glass. As we got older if we wanted they put that little bit in a glass of our own for us. I would to say by 12 I had my own definite opinions on what wine I liked vs didn't. A glass of wine was also different than today. I still have the wine glasses from my childhood that Mom gave me. And I swear they only hold 5 ounces if filled to the rim. Growing up the glass was never filled up either, so we all got maybe 2-3 ounces with dinner.

I rarely drink.
I have no moral stance on drinking, it's just that between all beverages I could consume, it's not one I care for as much as other things. I never saw the appeal to be honest.
It's not like I'll NEVER drink or would describe myself as a "non drinker" just someone who doesn't care about alcohol that much.
Usually the only time I drink is if I'm with others who are drinking, I might have one to fit in, but that's about it.

Don't tell me you've never heard of brainwave entrainment function commands. They're only the simplest step in the metacognitive biorhythmic self-assessment modality targeting the harmonic astral tract.
