This is the lie that all crocs wearers tell themselves. You repeat it often enough, and you start believing it, but that doesn't make it true. Crocs are like those hideous velcro shoes for old people. They look like crap, they'll always look like crap, people do notice when you wear them, they're just too polite to say anything. I wear the original butt ugly crocs that are unmistakably crocs. They are especially hideous because I usually wear them with socks, often thick socks (in winter) and because mine are usually dirty and have some permanant stains. Plus they kind of smell like compost. But - their ugliness is equal to their comfort and utility. I garden a lot, and these are not only ultra comfortable, they are easy to hose off, and easy to slip on and off to let you run in and out of the house. Although I don't find the original crocs comfy so don't wear them, many of the boaters I know do. It's pretty common to see a row of crocs lined up on the dock beside the multi million dollar yachts at the yacht club. The yachties love the crocs because they're comfy, easy to slip on/off and most importantly - don't mark the decks of the boats.
One of my favorite yachtie croc memories was when one of our friends got all worried that if he left his crocs there on the dock (we'd all boated somewhere and were staying in an unfamiliar place) that someone might steal his crocs. I'm like - dude, nobody wants to steal those things. Plus, if you can afford your $2 million dollar boat, you can afford to buy another pair. Let's go!

Ha! That's one of the best parts of wearing crocs, if you destroy them, they're cheap to replace. Maybe the rich guy had some kind of emotional attachment to his shoes. Or maybe he has a phobia of going barefoot - my DH slips right out of bed and out of the shower and right into his slippers. His feet are a virginal shade of white because they've always been encased in something, except when they're under bedcovers. He even takes his slippers traveling, so he doesn't have to walk from the bed to the bathroom in barefeet, I guess because something horrible might happen if he did.

They are half folded over each leg. It gives the impression of a slit without the risks.

I LOVE this! She looks absolutely gorgeous! But I suspect that's similar to the Hepburn thing - it works because it completely and totally fits her body, attitude, shape and style. As awesome as it looks on her, if I tried it on, I'd look like Dumbo trying to flap his ears to fly. Not my style and wouldn't be flattering. (Unfortunately.)
So many of these pics are like that. The look is awesome because it seems to work with the person, but wouldn't necessarily work for anyone else. That's why - IMHO - fashion and style are really tricky. Can't just copy a favorite look unless your body, style and attitude are very, very similar to the person you'd like to copy.

Are they really separate pieces? They look attached.
I like it. Would look ridiculous on me, but so do half the clothes that I wear anyway.

You seem drawn to the same styles I like, laterbloomer. I'm fairly tall and quite slender, so I can wear that kind of thing and am quite comfortable doing so. I can always be pretty darned sure I'm not going to see myself coming and going.

I love the top half. The pants are too much, IMO. I'd be curious to see how they fall when she's just standing still.

Later, she is stunning. I think it is as Mmhmm says. Such styles work best on slender tall women.

They do. They don't work at all on shorter folk; nor, do they work well on heavier folk. They're also somewhat limited, IMO, on where one might want to wear them. I don't see them as something to wear to the grocery store, or for everyday wear. They do very well at formal or semi-formal events and often draw comments and questions as to where you got them. Too often, the questions are asked by folks who really shouldn't even consider wearing them, unfortunately.

I remember making these in the 70's. It reminds me of the the picture that laterbloomer posted except I realized hers was one piece.

Sure, but I don't want to stop trying. I look that awesome in some of my outfits. Okay a few I'm a few pounds away from skinny but I am tall so I do okay with structured tops and wide leg pants. Clothes that are well taken care of tend to be less susceptible to looking dated. And if you look good in it you can get away with a lot. Maybe not shoulder pads or neon green leotards, that's obviously 80's, but mid rise bootleg jeans have been a staple for quite a long time. And these days there is a whole category called vintage for really well made older clothes.

I'm impressed you and others can find images to share from the Internet. I've seen some cool stuff in Details magazine(men's clothes) and other catalogs/magazines for women but I'm not finding many of the images on line.
The topic did include clothing and styles we liked though, correct? (There are some very cool designer sneakers out right now both for men and women. One of my favorites was an interesting black and white pattern. Versatile and interesting. )

I can only think of two people who'd consider that a good look - and those two people are Kim and Kanye.
I like that floral skirt in #279- it looks great with hose heels. I think wearing flats would make it look too frumpy. Some nice strappy sandals like she's wearing, even with a bit of a lower heel would look better than wearing flats with it.
The only thing wrong with the top is that it's off-white - if it were white-white, it would be a perfect match for the skirt..
