thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/228282-obama-approval-at-highest-in-over-a-year-poll-findsnot a whisper of this from the "liberal media". NOTE: this is consistent with other polls, or i would not be posting it. ie: www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_obama_job_approval-1044.htmlPresident Obama's approval rating is at its highest in over a year, according to new Gallup polling.
The latest three-day polling average, from Dec. 27-29, puts Obama's approval at 48 percent, the highest it has been since August 2013.
Obama's disapproval is also 48 percent, marking the first time his disapproval has not been higher than his approval since September 2013.
The poll comes after a year in which Obama faced approval ratings in the low 40s, as he contended with a range of crises, from Ebola to the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, and in which Democrats suffered heavy losses in the midterm elections.
As recently as the beginning of this month, Obama's approval was 41 percent, and his disapproval was 52 percent.
The president ended the year with a string of accomplishments, including executive action on immigration, a climate deal with China and a move to open relations with Cuba.
Gallup points out that the action on immigration could be a factor in the rising approval rating. The president's approval among Hispanics rose by 12 percentage points after his announcement of the action last month.
The economy has been showing signs of strength, including the news last week that the economy grew at 5 percent, its highest level in 11 years, from July to September.

He did just spend $60 billion bribing would-be students. most of his increase has to do with his stand on immigration. the rest has to do with the economy. bribing students might help his future numbers, tho.

I'm not sure you can really call it a "stand," as much as pretty much saying immigration laws don't really matter because even if you do come here illegally and are open about it...the federal government isn't really interested in enforcing them. If any state tries to enforce them, they'll just be told that's the federal government's job to do, and that state is just being racist for trying to enforce the laws. He's not the first President to do it, and probably won't be the last.

He basically said the federal government won't prioritize deportations. Look at the ridiculously low numbers of deportations under previous administrations. All he did was publicly state that we're sticking with unofficial stance on it. Not really much of a stand. really? huh. hard to reconcile that with a 12% increase in approval among Hispanics.

He had a pretty bad 2014 so there is nowhere to go but up. Ian's long as he stays out of the news, his approval rates should go up.....kind of like former presidents

It's an indirect sarcastic reference to a comment posted on the Cuba thread by another poster about Obama, Cuban cigars and cancer.

I have a tendency to just read the posts without looking to see who wrote them. I don't want any bias towards certain posters to interfere with what's actually being said.

Well, the stupidity of the American voter and all... is it stupid to like people when they do stuff you want them to do? Kind of depends on how stupid what you want them to do is/was (ETA: and if they are in a position of leadership and power, and should be looking out for the best interests of the group)... and when it was pointed out to you how stupid it is/was.

is it stupid to like elected officials when they do stuff you elected them to do? Kind of depends on how stupid what you want them to do is/was (ETA: and if they are in a position of leadership and power, and should be looking out for the best interests of the group)... and when it was pointed out to you how stupid it is/was. you are taking me far to generally. i corrected my original statement to what i was SPECIFICALLY referring to.

My answer is still appropriate though... If you (general) elected them to do something stupid, then it's still stupid to like them doing it... once the stupidity is pointed out to you (same general).

So true. Some of them still vote Republican for economic or personal liberties reasons. Hard to imagine anything more stupid than that.

Or as many of us realize, over all, not saying he's perfect...the guy is doing a pretty good job ...especially with the world being what it is....definitely one who is a caring sort when you consider Obama care, { have to see how that really shakes out but that will be down the road..} immigration..he's trying and the opposition just does not get it..

Huh? ? ? ? ? ? Trillions of dollars wasted (projection, first 10 years), and it doesn't even do what it's supposed to (provide affordable care for all citizens). How is that "caring"? Maybe "the opposition" gets it more than you give them credit for.
