I guess Mika Brzenzinski is now a racist, tin-foil-hat-wearing conspiracy theorist, too... www.mediaite.com/tv/brzezinski-says-obamas-paris-absence-about-more-than-optics-i-mean-look-at-these-pictures/The message was not missed. Do not doubt me. The world political system has barely entered the latter part of the 1980s in terms of communication. It's a BIG DEAL to attend, or to decline attending a global event. Wwen our President says he is going to fundamentally transform the United States, When our President says that if the political winds shift in an ugly direction, he'll side with the muslims; when he says the future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of islam. <<< the context is the PERIOD, btw. He put a period after it. He paused. It, too, was a message. When our President says we are not a Christian nation. And when he misses the biggest anti-terror rally since 9/11, there's a lot more too it than political tone-deafness and optics. These are messages. This President is decidedly not with the West. He doesn't like our Judeo-Christian culture. He thinks America and western European colonialism is responsible for all the evil in the world. He views radical islamists as an oppressed minority whose terrorists are only doing what they're doing because of centuries of mistreatment. He doesn't view them correctly as a failed culture.

Tenn, why was Kerry on NBC with a backdrop showing the Eiffel Tower on Sunday? If I was wrong, which I was, I stand corrected and apologize. Now where the heck was Biden? Back at his home, resting. Heck the President could have asked Hillary to stand in for the President. Incidently, the Secret Service was asked if they were asked about security for someone at the Paris demonstration, and they said they were never asked to put a plan together. And now that the WH Press Secretary has admitted the gaffe, we can put the issue to bed. We can play the 'Where Was' game if you like. Where was Speaker of the House John Boehner? After all he is 2nd in line to the presidency after VP Biden. Where was third in line Orrin Hatch (R), president pro tempore of the senate? Kerry is 4th in line. Holder is 7th in line. None of them needed an invitation nor to be asked by Obama to go to Paris.

Attorney General Eric Holder did go to Paris — but only for an anti-terrorism summit convened by Hollande ahead of the unity rally. Holder left Hollande and the others sometime after the group exited the Elysee Palace. Around the time other world leaders and dignitaries boarded buses to get to the front of the march, Holder was taping an interview for “Meet the Press,” NBC confirmed.
The White House said the attorney general was returning to the U.S. on Sunday night, The New York Times reported.

It all depends on one's point of view whether it was a huge faux pas or not. I think it should have been more about France instead of world leaders, but others think it should have been about free speech and making sure America was in the photo op.
I doubt we will all agree on how to view it. I believe if Holder had attended there would be complaints about that as well.

I guess Mika Brzenzinski is now a racist, tin-foil-hat-wearing conspiracy theorist, too.... won't surprise you to learn that i pretty much disregard anything she has to say. she is full of opinions- but most of them are somewhat to totally uninformed. and yes, i have watched/heard her, probably about a dozen times now. and sure, she is more reasonable than some of the other asshats on her show, but she still has a pretty narrow perspective.

Interesting thoughtful article for those who are interested.
The show of global leaders’ unity at the Paris march was transparently fake.
According to reports in the Israeli press, Hollande asked both Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas not to come.
Initially, both acquiesced; Netanyahu cited security concerns and Abbas, bad weather. Then, Israeli foreign and economy ministers said they would go, and Netanyahu abruptly changed his mind.
When his office informed Hollande’s that he’d be coming after all, the Israelis were pointedly told that Netanyahu wasn’t particularly welcome and that, if he did come, Abbas would be invited, too. In the end, both attended and marched with Hollande at the front of the column.
At an event in a synagogue after the march, Hollande exited just as Netanyahu rose to speak. That was probably for the best: The Israeli leader made the point that all Jews had the option of moving to Israel if they did not feel safe enough in the country where they were.
The clash of foreign and domestic political agendas after the terrorist attack is impossible to hide. Hollande, the Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Netanyahu, and Abbas attended the rally because they are all against terrorism — who’s for it except the terrorists, after all?
There is, however, little if any common ground among them. Accusations of terrorism fly between Russia and Ukraine, Israel and the Palestinians on a regular basis, and if they can ever agree on anything, it’s just that their leaders should be seen on television supporting the anti-terror cause.
Top US officials’ conspicuous absence was not so much a display of insensitivity as understandable caution: Whom exactly would the US leaders be in solidarity with?

Much less attention was paid to more than a dozen anti-Muslim attacks that have taken place in France since last Wednesday’s Charlie Hebdo massacre. That’s too bad, because while it’s unclear how the rallies can prevent further terrorist attacks, it’s easy to see how the anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant backlash could cause more of them.
According to MAMA, a UK organisation monitoring anti-Muslim attacks, 15 such incidents have taken place in France since last Wednesday. Some have been quite graphic: Anti-Arab graffiti on mosques, bullets fired and training grenades tossed at prayer houses, a boar’s head and entrails left outside a prayer room with a note saying, “Next time it will be one of your heads.”
I wanted to post this as well, as this is the first I've read about it. Not surprised though.

It's MSNBC and CNN who have decided to keep the issue alive. They have turned on this lame duck administration. I am just not sure why.
Why not Jeb Bush too. He will be the next President !

Let's not hear any more the world leaders led the crowds of the French the other day. Simply a photo op and then they were off and away. If I were a leader of a country, I would not fly to France either just to have my picture taken and then no longer involved. If ultra-orthodox newspapers in Israel can Photoshop the women out of the picture, then they can Photoshop me into the picture. Spot the difference: Female world leaders 'Photoshopped' out of Paris rally picture

However, if he wasn't there, he must be a muslim sympathizer or worse. The French are fine with the fact Obama wasn't there. They said so, repeatedly. Why are your knickers in such a knot?
