I am a little perplexed by America not showing up. I did not expect the President to be there necessarily. It would have seemed to be about the U.S. I think that is what we have Vice Presidents for. Kerry, maybe should have been there, I do not know.
On the other hand I can see the argument this is a European/Middle East/Africa moment of realization, and we should not put the USA front and center this weekend and steal anything from the moment. I was surprised MSNBC's Joe in the Morning came down on the White House on this issue the morning.
Not sure what was correct, but someone representing the U.S. should have been there.

I am of the opinion the leaders of the other countries should not have been there. This was a citizens of France demonstration and should not have upstaged with the distraction of other countries' heads of State participation. This belonged to the people of France.
If the other leaders wanted to show their support for France, let them head their own country's demonstrations.
I am also of the opinion this was not France's '9/11'. I think that unfortunately has yet to come.

I am hoping no one else needs to have a 9/11. In my reading of at least 4 articles on the march I've yet to see a full list of world leaders there. Obama was there on the 8th. I'm not sure why some Americans and some media feels he should have been there on the 11th or more tax money should have been sent to send someone else over.
Some world leaders were nearby like Germany and Britain so it makes more sense they would be there. Is the world leader photo op on a empty street with security a show of support of France and against those who committed this crime? Or does it upstage the French people taking to the streets?
I think its a matter of opinion. I'm OK with Obama and no top American official being there for the march.

He managed to send three (3) representatives to Michael Brown's funeral. He'll be back in DC tomorrow to honor the San Antonio Spurs.

I'm not keeping track because I think France and its response are more important.

I would think that managing effective security on that short notice would have been a nightmare.

No. But apparently the list is so important articles don't want to cover it. In four internet articles, I believe I read only five names that included titles and the country they represent. Plus just the mention of Italy, Spain, Turkey and a minister from Russia. I'm feeling underwhelmed.

Actually, the excuse-making is pretty incredible. I often wonder when Obama's water is going to finally be too heavy for supporters to carry?
Any other president would be one thing, but when you have an anti-colonialist radical, and his AG in Paris- his AG who cannot even manage to say the words "radical islam".

You can be amused if you wish. We'd actually be even for my amusement over your "cover the corpses in bacon fat" comment. If you don't believe that the United States is first in line for those terrorists, don't believe it. If you don't think Obama is in more serious danger from those terrorists than...say....the King of Norway.....don't believe it. What was adequate for others wouldn't have been adequate for him and that has nothing to do with his preferences and everything to do with his position of the President of the United States.
By the way, Paul? I'm a Conservative. I didn't vote for him either time and I'm the last person you'll find making excuses for him. Some things are just common sense.

If we have something like that here I don't want Obama to show up. Everywhere you guys go you make it the US of A show and this was not about you.

At minute 1.1-1.2 in your video, Holder says "Radical Islam." In fact, Holder says it twice.

I think the issue is the questioner wants to force feed his view of the terrorists motivations and unify it under the radical Islam banner that some have created here versus what Holder believes and wants to discuss.
You can't understand the terror groups if you insist they are all the same because they say they are for Islam or are Muslim. You need to figure out their unique goals and motivations.

I would think that managing effective security on that short notice would have been a nightmare. Cannot let that be an excuse. 40 WORLD LEADERS WERE ABLE TO BE THERE. The street was the safest place in Europe or even the world, at that time.

Probably not. The world leaders likely brought their own security or not as they chose.
www.nydailynews.com/news/world/photo-world-leaders-paris-not-article-1.2074629
At least 40 world leaders were pictured together on a Paris street on Sunday in a show of solidarity before marching with millions for the victims of last week's terror attacks.
The photos may have made it seem as if David Cameron, Benjamin Netanyahu and François Hollande and the other heads of state were standing at the head of the pack, but at the time they were in fact alone on an empty street, surrounded by security.
The deception may not have been intentional, but some people took offense.

It's kind to make all kinds of excuses for the administration while even they are admitting it was a mistake. I do give them credit to copping to that mistake. It most certainly was.

DJ, you could argue that this event was custom made for Paul to spout his anti-Obama rhetoric -> POTUS not showing up means he doesn't give a flying leap, and POTUS showing up would have meant he was jockying for attention and sticking the taxpayers with the bill for his photo op. There is no winning this one
