...Taking Up Too Much Space In case you were wondering why feminism is increasingly irrelevant, I guess there's a thing called "manspreading". Seriously. I have looked for the quoted material above in the linked article and I just don't find it there. Did the thread author maybe mislink the article? Did the quoted material above come from an conspiracy theorist Alex Jones article?

Have you ever sat next to some douche on the subway who is taking up way to much space by leaning back, spreading his legs, and draping his arms over the neighboring seat?
Or are you the guy that does it?

I'm not going to read the article and haven't really heard the phrase "manspreading" until this thread. But as someone who takes two forms of public transportation every workday I can tell you it exists.
Yes bus seats are narrow. Yes it sucks to be crammed in like sardines. No, you sprawling your legs wider than the seats is not going to keep me from plumping my ass down next to you.
Get over it.

Or are you the guy that does it? I'm the one who smiles sweetly and says excuse me before giving them just enough time to get their body parts out of my way.

Or are you the guy that does it? No, but I've seen people-- women, even-- forced to stand (I generally choose to stand) because some other passenger- usually a woman- has bags on seats on either side of them.

Why is it every time men are asked to be thoughtful of others that they share the world with it is called an attack on men?

Why is it every time men are asked to be thoughtful of others that they share the world with it is called an attack on men? because it's not nice to challenge their perceived authority?

I'm also 6'3"-- the laws of physics and physiology pretty much give me three options while sitting: knees on my chest- the airline position; legs out in front of me- not gonna happen on a subway; or the 'manspreading' V. It seems to me that anyone not interested in "unwanted contact" shouldn't ride the NYC trains? Lord knows that's why I don't even live there.

Yep. But most people aren't like you, or I. They see shit, they're annoyed by it, but they don't say or do anything about it.

...Taking Up Too Much Space In case you were wondering why feminism is increasingly irrelevant, I guess there's a thing called "manspreading". Seriously. Fix the link, paul. You do not place a link after a copy/paste that does not link to what you've copy/pasted. It's dishonest and you know it. Either fix the link or the post will be removed. I'll give you a few minutes to take care of this problem. mmhmm, Administrator

I see now that it posted something different than the site I was on, I'll dig it up.

The link you used was not included in that article and would not have copy/pasted accidently. However, that's a moot point. The copy/pasted material with the fraudulent link has been removed. mmhmm, Administrator

Why is it every time men are asked to be thoughtful of others that they share the world with it is called an attack on men? Can you imagine an instance where you couldn't simply say, "Excuse me, I'd like to sit down" and that would take care of it? For the MTA to get complaints- primarily from women according to the article- asking them to "crack down" about what is in essence a sexist perception, because they "noticed" something, but didn't try to resolve the perceived issue on their own first is a sick and twisted form of gender discrimination.

I cut the verbiage from a site and pasted it- if, as is often the case these days, a link appears at the bottom of the text, I will sometimes let that suffice as supplying the correct link. I apologize that in this instance that does not appear to have been the case. I posted the See BS article-- as written on See BS-- with the link from the browser window. The issue is now resolved.

Why is it every time men are asked to be thoughtful of others that they share the world with it is called an attack on men? It has been noted that members of both genders take up more than one seat yet it identified by a single gender term. A lot of work has been done to change vocabulary to gender neutral terms such as chairperson. Perhaps a gender neutral term for this non-gender specific behavior would make men feel not attacked.

I can surely imagine such an instance. I can also imagine an instance where people considerately sat down in their space without spreading their stupid ass all over the place. In a perfect world, there would be no need to say, "Excuse me. I'd like to sit down." because the other people present would have enough sense to use their own space and not somebody else's. Unfortunately....

I don't think so. If that is all it would take they would say "We hate that too but let's call it this". And Paul is defending the sprawling, not even a bit of apology.

Virgil's Friend: What are you reading?
Virgil: An argument about an article about an activist in New York crusading against men who take up too much space on the subway.
