Join me and talk about what kind of stuff you're working on! I just finished 2 last Christmas hats to mail down to NJ and I'm feeling a little burnt out... need a break but have soooo many things I want/have to do. I made 3 of these hats for folks this year: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/man-hat-2 nice and easy and I like the pattern a lot. I also made fingerless gloves for DH, socks for DH and socks for my mom, oh and a scarf for my brother (triangular scarf). One of my BFFs is having a baby in June so I have to plan what to make her. I want to make a nice blanket, but long monotonous projects like that bore me to tears sometimes before I can gather the steam to finish them (DH's sweater from a few years ago almost killed me). Don't know what she's having yet either so I'll wait to plan until I find out. (edited thread title to include those of the crochet persuasion! )

Never learned to knit, but I love to crochet Hope I can still join in though!! Feeling the Christmas burnout too. The last two things I made for people (scarves) weren't even acknowledged, though, so I kind of feel like not doing that again. I had so much fun making them too. I heard someone once say that you should never give something that you wouldn't like to receive as a gift, and I thought they were nice enough that I would have kept them, but oh well. I was going to make some coozies for my sister for her birthday - they use canning jars as drinking glasses and I thought some cotton coozies would be nice for them. She comments on the one I made for DH so it seems like she would like them, but who knows. The baby blankets I have given recently were well received, though, so maybe I should just stick to that. I think I am going to make up a couple Christmas tree skirts for some friends who saw mine and asked for one. I made ours this year and had fun doing it. I may add some to it as well since I had to hurry up and do it in a couple of days over Thanksgiving. If I start now on the skirts for my friends then they would be done by their birthdays (in the fall)

I'm an avid knitter and would love to participate - however! warning! - I totally suck at posting pictures or links to patterns. I have a Ravelry account I never use :Pbecause I also belong to a knitting group on FB and the members post their patterns and pictures there. I see so much stuff I want to make, though, that now I need to live to be 300 years old if I want to get it all done!
Right now I'm finishing a baby blanket in a chevron pattern in three shades of blue (for a baby boy due in March). I've knit several baby blankets over the past year for the next crop of babies arriving or due soon.
My WIP's include a pillow cover for the window seat in my bedroom and a queen-sized blanket for our bed (this one is turning into a multi-year project!). I found enough beautiful wool in exactly the right color for under $150 - - compared to $500+ to buy a comparable blanket .
Great thread!

Hey crocheters are welcome too! Changed thread title to reflect that I learned both way when I was in first grade but have forgotten how to crochet along the way. I picked knitting back up 5-6 years ago - I was home with H1N1 and bored, figured I wanted to try knitting in the round on double points, so I taught myself, and it snowballed from there. Circular knitting was great, so I took a sock class, a sweater class, learned to cable, and that's about what I've been doing lol. I actually finished a few UFOs during last year and I still have a few, so that's a goal for this year. Sam, ungrateful people who don't appreciate the time and effort put into handmade things suck, don't let them get you down! I also have to start things months ahead of time to have any hope of finishing them on time, lol. I started DH's socks in August!! I have to start things for my friend's baby soon... Anyone have any nice, moderately simple baby blanket patterns they want to share? There are so many and I can't even think about sifting through everything on ravelry. Here's the sweater I made DH two years ago... this took longer than I'd thought. buttons are too heavy but he loves them (they're skulls), so I haven't replaced them yet. www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/-255-henley-neck-down-pullover-for-men (this woman's patterns are super easy to make and understand!) ...the socks I made him this year; www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mens-basic-sock and a top I made my niece last year, I LOVE this pattern and there are sizes from baby right up to adult! www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ruffled-summer-top

I don't know how to knit, would like to learn to crochet, but I do cross-stitch and want to get back into it. When my MIL was here last year, I tried to get her to teach me, but I couldn't learn anything from her. Then I was going to learn from YouTube videos, but got busy with work and family. With cross-stitch, I learned it on my own when I was kid and YouTube didn't exist. I did a picture for DH, MIL, my mom and my dad. I also did a few small fun type ones that my mom hung when I was a teenager. I had bought one to do for DD as a birth announcement/commenement type, but I haven't done it yet. I bought when I was pregnant with her and she's now almost 3.5 years old. I was looking at DH's cross-stitch over the weekend while we were hanging pictures. I realized how much I missed doing it. Once we finish some of the work around the house, I hope to do some after DD is bed, but before I go to bed soon. cael - I love your last picture. That would look adorable on my DD.

Here is the pattern for the baby blanket I'm finishing up right now:
www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chevron-baby-blanket-2
I'm using a rich medium blue, a baby blue and white (only three colors instead of 5). I also made it this year in pink for a baby girl (deep rose, baby pink and white).
This pattern is really fast and easy. I used #9 circular needles and Lion Brand/Vanna yarn. Hope this helps.

Cross stitch is great! My mom has this beautiful sampler her good friend's daughter (my 'niece's mom) made her years ago. You should get back to it taz! (and there are some great youtube videos that I'm sure could teach you crochet or knit!)

Thanks kittensaver, I like that one! Need to wait until she finds out what she's having and tells me what colors she likes... she definitely isn't an all-pink or all-blue type of person so she may have some unique colors in mind!

I finished this blanket. I can crochet straight single and double, that's about it... I can knit, a very little bit, but it's much slower.

Nice, love the colors! (you may be able to just grab the corners of the photo and drag it in to make it smaller? that's how I made mine a bit smaller)

I'll join I knit and crochet, but this year is the year of quilting!! So many cut out blocks that need to be assembled. I'm also vastly intrigued by the knitting machine. Any details on it?

I'll join too I am long time crocheter and I do a bunch of cross stitch too. I just finished making a crochet layette set for a friends baby. Currently I am working on this stacked teacup crosstitch: www.crossstitchworld.com/cross-stitch-detail.php?RecordID=35218Anyone visits good crochet blogs? I like a few that have free design patterns and beautiful handiwork that always inspire me. Maybe we can share craft blogs we like to visit.

Side question (and sorry for the interruption)-At what point will 'blow!' be added to the thread title?

I thought of that! Didn't want to attract too much attention from the derelicts at EE

DD calls crochet "hooking" "This is my hookin' blankie. Mama hooked it for me." Or when I start a new project, "Mama, are you hookin'? Are you hookin' for me? I want to hook it too!" And then she steals my hooks. I find them in the oddest places

My mom also loved to crochet.
She referred to herself as "The Happy Hooker".

Oops- Forgot to show off what I plan to work on soon (below). I just learned the crocodile stitch. The easiest stitch ever to learn. Double shell stitched. Here is a how-to link if you'd like to learn the stitch. I looked at and tried several other's way to create the stitch and found this gals's site to be the simplest. www.lostandfoundlane.com/p/croc-stitch-easy-way.html

My mom used to make braided rugs like this example below (not her rug). She used a big ol' needle to sew it all together. A lot of work because they were large.

Make them for someone else's kid.
I'd like to get the pattern for these, if someone can post a pattern or free pattern link. .

Those are so cute! I tried knitting baby booties once, they came out ok but just NOW fit my friend's baby at 9 months old... not when she was a newborn which is what I'd thought they would be for, lol. Oh well, I can try again for the next friend's baby. I'd love to pass that crochet pattern along to my mom, she crochets and is always looking for new things to learn (I'm going to forward her the crocodile stitch site too)
