omg, no....I'd probably die. I drink a 12oz coffee or two (if I'm home) in the morning, water/seltzer all day, and then a couple glasses of wine or a cocktail at night when I get home. I can't wrap my brain around the stories of people drinking cases of tonic daily. how are they not diabetic or worse?

Nope. Not a huge soda drinker to begin with. Certainly not going to damage my health and weight for any reason,

How much is two stones? I remember there was some guy gorging himself on McDonalds a year or two ago to prove a point.
I drink three mugs of coffee every morning. Sometimes, four Not cups. Mugs. It is not uncommon for me to have two or three sodas a day. Coke or Pepsi --regular only, probably five times a week, so I have plenty of caffeine. My body mass in August was normal for my height. Blood pressure was also good for my age.
Twinkies, Ruffles and Cheetos are regular snacks. I rarely drink alcohol, but have maybe two drinks a week, when eating out.
Other than these vices, I do eat rather healthy as far as meals go. Still drink a lot of of 2% milk, salads, veggies, skinless chicken, and not too much red meat. I have recently retired, and am trying to cut back on the above (the snacks and coffee) and even told my wife we need smaller dinner portions, and less bread and rolls with the meals. In good weather, it is not uncommon for me to walk a couple of miles a day. Winter months, not very much.
When I do keel over from the above, I have asked my wife to get on the board and let everyone know I keeled over from the stuff. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png)

Not sure exactly what 2 stones are, but there is a video with the URL. I think he gained 23 pounds over 30 days. He just added the 10 cans of coke, he did not change his diet.

I probably could drink 10 Diet Pepsis a day. I have to limit myself to 2-3. 10 regular sodas? No. All the sugar would make me feel ill.

Absolutely not. I have trouble controlling my coffee addiction (3-4 in the morning). The rest of the time it's water or cranberry juice. When I go to a restaurant (not often) I allow myself a soda (don't drink alcoholic beverages).
P.S. don't need 23 extra pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I couldn't. I don't drink soda at all and don't usually do anything with caffeine.

1 Stone = 14 lb.
I like Regular Pepsi or Coke - but I have no desire to drink 10/day - or any other soft-drink for that matter.

I always find these stories pretty lame because they are all the same. If you take any conditioned athlete and completely change their diet from clean eating to even moderate overconsumption, there are always going to be drastic changes in their physiques, weight, and health. I guarantee this guy reverse all of these things within 2 weeks back to normal. I'm also certain that he would've had similar results if he would've started eating a big plate of pasta every night for dinner.
Still though, drinking all that would be tough.

My dad drank 3 regular 12 oz cans of Pepsi a day for most of his adult life. Around 45, he started getting a pot belly, so he switched from regular to diet and never looked back. Didn't lose a single pound and didn't change anything else with his diet. The way people talk about soft drinks and "do the math 3500 calories = 1 pound," you'd think after a year he would have lost 45 lbs without exercise or at least 15 with no effort. He did lose that pot belly 10 years later when he retired and was able to exercise every day.
I had another friend in his 30's give up regular for diet and had the same results. No weight loss and he was about 40 lbs overweight.

I couldn't drink 10 cans of anything. I don't like regular coke (it's too sticky sweet) I drink Dt. Coke. The most I've ever had in one day is probably 7 or 8 cans - my usual day is 4 cans and an exceptional day is 5 or 6. I'm trying to swap out one can with water or flavored no caffeine tea. I go for the Dt. Coke for the caffeine hit... and I think I need to cut back on my caffeine consumpution (I start the day with 2 12ounce cups of coffee....

Diet soda doesn't really change anything. You would think by looking at the label that it's just caffeinated water. It's not.

Yeah that's 27.999559 lbs in 30 days, holy crap. I gave up drinking sodas/pop/coke in October 2013. I had a can of coke about 6 weeks ago and nearly died, it was freaking horrible. I've never tasted something so revolting .
And yet there was a time I used to drink huge amounts of this stuff every day. I cannot stomach it now.

The numbers don't work.
A can of coke is 140 calories. 10 cans is 1400 extra/day. So every 2 days, he'd gain less than a pound. That means that the most he should have gained is 15 lbs, max in 30 days.

Yeah, the calories don't add up, but you are forgetting that processed foods can add weight via bloating. probably not enough to explain the difference, but still an addition.
I know for myself that I can eat more calories than I mathematically should be able to and still lose weight if I am eating clean, unprocessed foods. I don't know why this is.

That means that the most he should have gained is 15 lbs, max in 30 days. Even though most literature says a calorie is just a calorie and it doesn't matter where they come from, I think that's not entirely true. I have read that protein, fat and sugar/carb calories are treated differently by the body.
I did have occasion to prove that too many carb calories from pasta, rice did get me fatter and quicker than if they had been from meat. Protein calories are generally the hardest for the body to store so one might burn off I think as much as 40% and only store 60%. For carbs and sugars I remember the store rate being closer to 80%. In addition, the body usually buffered those carb calories by storing extra water with it as well. I think that might be where part of the weight gain comes from.
Also, perhaps as a Paleo he was in or close to a Ketosis state and adding the sugar from Coke pushed him out so fast he put on pounds quickly.

At one point I was drinking 6 cans of diet dew a day and stopped cold turkey, I had insane caffeine withdrawal for a week. I have now stopped drinking anything but water and a few light beers occasionally. I feel so much better, I sleep better and am less moody.

Hell no! I HATE Coke so someone would have to pay me to drink even one a day. Also, if I were to decide to experiment with that much sugar it wouldn't be with ANY soda, it would be with food ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) . I have a co-worker who drinks 10 - 12 diet cokes a day. She is very obese. The crap in diet coke is just as bad, if not worse, than regular coke.

He could have achieved the same results by drinking 10 cans of any caffeinated soft drink every day, but no one is going to care that he experienced adverse consequences to his health by drinking 10 supermarket-brand colas every day. He chose Coke because it's an icon and gets him more attention, and attention is probably what he was seeking. He has now become the darling of the "Coca-Cola is the devil intent on poisoning the world and stealing Christmas (or religious holiday of your choice)" whacko fringe, for whatever benefit that will get him.
Anything taken to absurd extremes is likely not going to end well, but when some bozo decides to "prove" the evil intents of "Big Snack" (or Pharma or Agro or whatever), they tend to go for the most successful to garner attention. In the end, all they've proven is that they're morons who thought it would be a good idea to cram themselves full of outrageous and unrealistic amounts of something that is not dangerous when consumed in sensible amounts.
A couple of years ago there was a small article, I think on CNN, about a woman who had incurred life-threatening, or at least life-altering, bone damage from drinking something like a gallon or more of iced tea every day. There was no big outcry about that, probably because there was no big, evil corporate target to accuse of deliberate perfidy.
On the other hand, Warren Buffet drinks Coca-Cola regularly in sensible amounts. He's 84 and still going strong. And he's a billionaire--possibly in part because he doesn't waste his time or risk his health by doing stupid, pointless stunts.

No way I could do that many cans of coke a day, I'd barf.

That makes me think of the hysteria concerning "popcorn lung". I could understand the cases concerning people who worked in processing plants. Something should be done to make sure they are safe in their work environment.
But the lay person they interviewed had been eating 3-5 bags of microwave popcorn a DAY since he was 15. I believe he was in his 50's when he was diagnosed.
What normal person eats that many bags of microwave popcorn a day for 35 years? Nobody asked that question it was all about microwave popcorn being the "devil".

I've never understood these experiments....I ate a ridiculous amount of crap & I gained weight & it affected my health. Did you really need to do the experiment to know that would be the outcome?
I don't need to test smoking 100 cigarettes/day for a month to know that it will make me hella sick & unhealthy.

Could I do this? Probably not. But I do believe that the claimed outcome happened. One of my sisters dropped about 40 pounds in about six months. Claimed the only things she did was quit drinking soda. And she always drank the sugared version.

Morgan Spurlock had a show that ran in the mid-2000's called "30 Days" where he did stuff like this. He's the same guy who did "Super Size Me".

The math has her decreasing her caloric intake by ~700 calories/day. 700 calories is 5 cans of coke/day. if you consider that many fast food sodas are 21 oz vs a 12 oz. can, just going for fast food and refilling a soda once gives you nearly 4 cans worth.
