Do you buy books or Kindle books? I have been contemplating signing up for Kindle Unlimited for $9.99 a month. I read about 3-4 books a month so I don't know if it would justify paying that much. There is a series that I love but they are about $7 a book and there are over 30 of them but they don't offer them on Kindle Unlimited and I don't know if I want to buy them.
I live in a small town and the library isn't able to get them all and the ones they can get take forever to get from other libraries.

I pay for books because I like books. If I can find what I want used in paperback, all the better

I buy books for my Kindle but am trying to stop. I do have a $2.99 limit, and I usually spend no more than $1.99. It still mounts up.
I was reading a review that said something called Scrib'd (I think that was it) was a better choice than the Kindle Unlimited because it had books from the major publishers whereas Kindle Unlimited doesn't. You can use Scrib'd on the Kindle Fires and Ipad but not the Kindle E-ink (or whatever . . . I don't know about anything but my Fire). So you might check into that.
Although I love the size and weight of my Kindle, I wouldn't have bought it if I had known I would get a school-issued Ipad.

I pay for books but I only buy paperbacks. A lot of the books I buy are for my book club (we don't buy hardbacks). If I don't love the book, I get rid of it.
We have a TON of books here.

I'm no longer a big reader, though I would like to get back into it. I've downloaded thousands of free books on my Kindle, so if the urge strikes I'll have plenty of reading material. When I was more into reading I would buy books that were part of a series I was interested in.
After my mom passed away I got all of her books. I've just recently gone through them and decided which ones I'm keeping and which ones I'll be passing along to others. There were several sci-fi/fantasy series that we read together when I was a kid that she kept and I've started to read again. The books are enjoyable but it's been surprising that reading them has brought back so many memories of our discussions of the books and what was going on in our lives when we first read them.

I pay for Kindle downloads and also get them from the library.
I have the iPad 2 and the Kindle Paperwhite. I like the format of the books through the Kindle app on the iPad, but it's too heavy to hold while reading in bed. On the other hand, if I need the iPad for other reasons when I travel, it's nice to have everything on one device.
I've been getting rid of my hardcover and paperback books, donating them to the library. Every box of anything that leaves the house now is one less box I'll have to get rid of when I move from here -- whenever that may be.
Besides Scrib'd, there's Oyster and Entitle. They are similar to Netflix -- pay a subscription fee and choose from their selection of books.

I read as often as I can, usually 4-6 books a week so paying for books gets old quickly! I do subscribe to Kindle a Unlimited and have found it worth the money so far, maybe 3 months in now. I use book gorilla.com as well. You can tailor your preferences and they send you a list of maybe 20? Ish books daily that range from free to $$. My kindle has hundreds of books on it and most are free downloads.
I search amazon for for free books too. There used to be a link on a webste I visit where a commenter would list free books every day but I haven't seen the link lately. My library has waiting lists hundreds of people long but I put my limit of 10 books on hold and am pleasantly surprised when my turn comes! Sometimes I luck out when I search the available list and get a current release.

Only indirectly, through taxes that fund the public library!
DH goes to the local resale store near us and buys used paperbacks. He reads them and then donates them back again. Win-win.

Sometimes I pay for books. Mostly, I check them out on my kindle via the county library system.

I use the library. There are 3 here. Public, state and college. Then inter-library loan from around the state.
I seldom buy a book even used anymore.

I have a older Kindle and have several free books on it. My problem with buying a book on Kindle is when I don't want it any more. With a real book I can donate it, on the Kindle I can delete but that's a huge waste of money.
There are several thrift stores I check about once a month for paperbacks. I read them and pass them along. I don't get hard bound books ....... no space and too heavy.

We do a combination of library, used books, and Kindle. We like our local libraries and they are part of a big system so if I'm not in a big hurry I can get a lot of popular books. We also belong to the library near our cabin in Southern CA. I think I go there mostly to buy used books on tape/cd for the 500 mi (8.5 hour) trips back and forth. Sometimes I pick up books at the local thrift store because I don't want to be under the gun to return a library book before I leave. While I hate to pay for "new" books when there are so many cheap used books available, the kindle is great for airline travel. So compact and light; what a change from 10 years ago when I might lug four books in my book bag! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)

It's stupid, but I do. Not a lot of them, but they've added up over the years and now I have boxes and boxes of them in the basement and probably 50 next to the bed waiting to get read. I have a Kindle, but I rarely use it. Older son is a voracious reader and goes back and forth between his Kindle and paper books, but he says he prefers paper. I bought him a new hardcover fiction book for Christmas on Small Business Saturday with my $10 AMEX credit, it was on sale, but it was still $7. If he likes a book he'll read it over and over though and I think this one is one he'll want to keep around.

I go to the library almost every Saturday. I could use the library's ereader app on my ipad, but I'm still checking out books for some strange reason. If there was something popular, I'd just put my name on the list and wait until it was my turn. I never read the same book twice, so buying them would be silly. I went to the library or bookmobile almost every week as a kid too, so I make it a point to take my kids. My 3 year old already has her own library card. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

I don't buy paperbacks anymore, which makes me a little sad, but the times I get to read are generally times when using a Kindle is beneficial (dark, using Paperwhite.) I do borrow some books, but the ones I read about three times, I go ahead and buy.

I borrow books from friends/library or buy used. Or I buy new if I need it now and it's not too much.

Our kids get a card when they can write their names.

I buy hard cover books at thrift stores. I like the weight and the feel of paper (old school I guess). I enjoy reading them and pass them onto friends and family. If no one is interested, I donate them back to a charity or library book sale.
I like the fact that if I misplace or lose a book or spill a drink on it, I am only out a couple bucks. You can't say that about a kindle or a library book. I also like the fact that books work without batteries or electricity.
Reading is pretty cheap entertainment. I am not into TV very much so I can read a couple books a week if nothing is going on.

I buy some books, but get most from the library. I have a Kindle and read a fair amount on it, but was able to check out books on it from the library where we used to live. Our new town/county library doesn't use an ebook system compatible with my old school kindle, so I need to cross to the city just on the other side of the state line and get a card there (which they allow) so I can check out their ebooks.
I also check out regular books from the liberty if it's a title they don't have an ebook for, and we check out a ton of children's books.

I used to buy paperbacks all the time when I was working. When I stopped working in '99, I became a dedicated library patron. Fortunately, the local library system is very large and very good. I mostly read hard covers and paperbacks, but I have checked out the occasional ebook from the library.
For a while I was downloading free books from Amazon, but I never got around to reading them, and then I would forget why I downloaded each one. So, for now, I've stopped doing that.

I buy books, both the tree version and since I got my paperwhite last summer, digital.
I have over a hundred books I downloaded to my iPad Kindle app, but I hate reading on it. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to transfer them to my Kindle.
A couple months ago, I took my first plane trip without several paperbacks in my backpack. It helps keep the weight down.
I need to go sign up or a library card. I had a well used one in KY.

If you show the cloud ones and are connected to wifi you can select them to download to the device Alternatively you can go to Amazon.com and the Manage My Kindle section. From there you can select the books and 'deliver them to your kindle' so it will download next time it gets wifi. Same result, two different ways to accomplish it.

I don't buy books anymore. I used to not think twice about that or iTunes movie and music purchases. Now that we are saving up for when DH will likely be out of the army that is an easy place to cut.
I now use the library, and I really wish I'd done it sooner. I get all the magazines I want on DH's iPad, there is also a good selection of books for the kindle, but I find it usually quicker to request the hard copy than waiting to be able to get the kindle version. People do the ebook because they don't have to go to the library for pick up, but I only live a few miles away and like to browse the new books section for new reads. It is a free way to pass the time, and I like being around people who read. I often strike up a conversation with someone at the library to chime in on a book they are asking about/looking for or to ask someone for a suggestion.
ETA I also still download free kindle books. I have found though that many of the books I want aren't available on kindle.

I am so glad that so many people are using their libraries. We've expanded and remodeled two libraries here, and it was not without controversy about the cost. The plans were in the works a few years before eReaders took off, so I've heard a lot of carping about how we didn't need to spend the money on such fancy buildings because no one goes to libraries anymore. From what I can see my libraries are always busy.
When I retire I'm moving out of the area. One of the things that attracts me to certain cities is the quality of the library.

I use the library in the county seat. If they don't have a book I go online and search for it in their multi-county library system and have always had luck finding what I want. I don't buy books. Minimalist tendencies for sure.

I mainly use the library. I either check out books on my NOOK or check out paper copies. It depends on which copy I can get faster. I like that if a book sucks I don't have to feel guilty about wasting money on it, I just send it back to the library.
I still buy books from time to time. I am addicted to cookbooks, those I buy in paper copies. I just bought another book for my NOOK last week.
