A friend and I went shoe shopping yesterday. She was poking around, trying on shoes. So I found a wonderful pair that had three inch heels, and to amuse myself I tried them on. I haven't worn heels in years because:
1. I am very tall and don't need to; and 2. I am old, and have had two strokes.
But they looked so cute! I felt so young!
Would it be a foolish purchase?
How do you feel about wearing heels?

I think if you are "old" then you can throw your rules away. :-)

I am old. I still wear heels. Not every day and not stiletto shakey shoes. Nice heels 3 inches I like.

If the shoe fits, wear it!
Seriously, as long as the shoes are comfortable, & don't mess with your sense of balance, wear heels for as long as you wish.

I'm going to be 70 in a month. The last time I wore heels was when I wore a Jones of New York wool suit to my Dads funeral....April 1999. I was 55 years old.
I since have had a knee replacement and I am very afraid of falling and breaking something in there loose and having to go through that again. Besides, I also have bunions from wearing heels for many years.
I will keep my flats.

They are not stilettos, but I am a little shaky on them. I would practice, practice, practice around the house first. When I first put them on, I was afraid I couldn't get up, but I did, and then starting prancing because they were SO adorable with the straight leg jeans I was wearing! If anyone thinks I am losing my mind, just tell me!

I don't remember. Probably 1986 when I quit working for a while. I did off load a bunch of heels to the second hand store.

When my hips went south, I guess the last time was in 2009.....so 50.
I tried on a really cute pair when we went shopping last month and it took about 3 steps for my hips to start screaming.

I've pretty much only worn heels for weddings. I am tall. I have larger feet than most places carry shoes for. I am perfectly happy in flats.

I love heels- not spikes or stilettos, something more substantial. I'm 61 and intend to keep wearing them as long as I can.

I was in my 40s so that would be 30 years ago. I never did wear the really high heels. 3" was my limit and even those hurt my feet.
Working in manufacturing I never did have to 'dress' for work so the heels were a Sunday shoe. When I started wearing pant suits to church I gave up on heels.
Love my flats.

I'm on the downhill slide toward 60 and I still wear heels. But not stilettos. I'm almost 5'9" and would tower over everyone if I did. But they look great with skirts, dresses and slim pants with the cuffs rolled up . They also look great with skimpy lingerie and a smile

I'm 72 and still wear heels when the situation calls for dressing up. A three-inch heel just isn't that high.

I never started. Some of us have enough trouble walking in flats (or no shoes). I don't need the added challenge of heels.

The only reason I stopped was foot problems, absolutely nothing to do with age or height. Comfortable shoes that look great are too rare to waste. You absolutely must buy them.

I was 30 and it wasn't by choice. After my back surgery my nerve damage left me without full feeling in my feet so I couldn't keep my balance on the heels, I kept falling off.

I'm 30 and I find heels to be pure torture. I love the way they look, but I'm miserable in them. I had a bunionectomy at 14 (!) and my knees aren't great. Plus I have no grace, so I look like a newborn deer learning to walk when I wear them.

I am 60 and wear heels much more often than I used to. I used to have a job where I was on my feet all day. Now that I am in management I wear heels much more often. Even at work. I like looking my husband in the eye.

I'll be 36 (eek!) next week and have no intention of stopping wearing heels any time soon. But I am only 5'1", so I need all the help I can get. I really wear them for work. I am curvy so I wear a ton of pencil skirts and heels are just perfect with them. I usually wear at least 3" heels if not 4", but that's just my preference.

I stopped wearing them when I got a job that required me to be on my feet all day. I never started wearing them again when my job changed. However my grandmother was still wearing high heel pumps every day well into her 80s. They looked very nice with her skirts.

I'm utterly shocked I haven't broken an ankle on my shoes.

I love heels! I'm what you might consider tall (5'7"), and slim, and used to wear 3" heels almost daily for work - sometimes 4" stilettos for dressier occasions (DH was 6'2").
I suffered a permanent leg injury so heels are out for me now (sigh). Flats and low heels I've managed to find cute styles for both casual and dressy, but darn it, I miss those stilts!

I had to stop wearing heels when I got vertigo. I had one last epic falling off my shoes moment and that was then end of them. Way back before bartending, when I worked in an office, I had an amazing shoe collection. I miss them. I don't miss falling off of them....which I was really good at.

Ya I consider it to be tall! Me too. Especially since I'm so short. My friend is 6'3". When he sees me in my work clothes, it's not as huge a difference. When we hang out on the weekend, he's like "damn you're short!" because I'm usually not wearing shoes.

I am 5'8, and mostly never wore heels over 3 inches except when I was a teenager. It's funny because I wore them all the time in high school, but almost never in college unless it was a special occasion. Then for my first job after college I wore them daily, and by the time I was 25 I had a job that required a lot of walking and on uneven ground at times so I pretty much stopped wearing them. My mom had horrible bunions that she blamed on heels so I think it is probably best that I don't wear them a lot anymore.
When I wore heels it never was a problem, but now that I don't usually wear them they hurt my feet after a few hours. I try to stick to nice ballet flats, but in winter I do have a few booties with about a 2 inch heel.
