What age were you when you stopped wearing heels?

Trying to remember.

Bought my last pair of 3” heels in 1988 (ae 42). Guess I still do wear heels somewhat – like for VERY dress up = weddings BUT most are either about 1” or clunky heels.

So far I have managed to avoid the food problems my Mom had (hammer toe) as any type of heels was at most Sat night dress up. Always wore nurse shoes or walking type shoes for work, especially since I started wearing pants ALL the time whether work or pleasure.

Thank you for all your responses!  They certainly run the gamut!  I am 5'10", have not bought the shoes just yet.  I am pleased that no one responded that I have lost my mind!

Last time I wore heels was me wedding (1987)!  Well maybe once or twice since then...

I am 5'10" (so no need to be any taller) and have size 10 1/2 feet.  Have you ever tried to find size 10 1/2 shoes? It sucks.  A lot of shoes stop half sizes at 10, like once your feet are that big there is no need to have shoes that fit?  And my feet are wide at the toes and very narrow at the heel, so a lot of high heel shoes do not fit right.

I have to wear close toed shoes and pants at work (industrial area), heels not allowed.

My problem was my bad, flat feet and they are getting worse. I am to the point about the

That's the thing!  It's one thing prancing around on a flat store floor, quite another on uneven ground, or stairs.  I'm just not sure!

About 1995 when I started consulting for the Transit District. Not smart to wear heels while playing along side the railroad tracks.

DH was 5'8" at his tallest. I'm about 5'6". I tower over him in my Danskos.

I say go for it. Start small and gradually work your way up to bigger heels if you need to.

I stopped working in '99 at age 46. I doubt that I've worn heels more than a handful of times since them. Ditto for skirts.

My biggest problem with heels is the comfort. I don't mind the height, I hate having my toes squeezed! If you look at the shape of your foot, then the shape of a high heel... it doesn't make sense to me.

if your toes were squeezed you weren't buying the right shoes!  I have heels (3-4 inches) that are more comfortable than some flats or sneakers I own.

Does 1-1.5" count? That's the highest I've ever worn. Don't like heels .... prefer Nike Mary Janes. Look like flats, feel like jogging shoes

Yes, the "clomp" is definitely part of the appeal.  As long as it is not the "crash" of me falling to the floor................

But if you want them, get them. There is no reason to stop unless you are injured, have pain that is aggravated by them, or feel unsafe.

I'll never give up my high heels!  I'm only 5'1", but I don't wear them for height.  I wear them because I love the way the look and I actually prefer walking in them.  Even my flip-flops have 3" wedges.  The only time I'm in flat shoes is when I'm working out. 

Not highly advised, but I continued to wear my high heels to work every day when I was on crutches for 6 weeks following hip surgery.  In the winter.  And I drove a 4-wheel drive standard truck.

Life is too short for uncomfortable shoes. I only wear (small) heels when I have to dress up for a wedding or something. Currently 36.

it seems a general misconception that high heels = uncomfortable shoes and that just isn't the case.  any pair of shoes can be uncomfortable (I have a friend that wore Danskos one day and thought she would never walk again they were so uncomfortable, yet other people claim there's nothing more comfortable).

I am going to the store again tomorrow.  I can't stop thinking about those shoes; I am obsessed (really have to get a life).  Trying to get me sister to go with me so I can get an unbiased opinion.

I don't think there are any shoes anywhere that are going to be equally good on

all people. For some people high heels are uncomfortable. I'm sure there are

some people who find Dansko's uncomfortable too.

Personally I'm more concerned about the issue of people assuming just because I can

find comfortable high heels/Dansko shoes you can too. That's BS. Your feet are your feet.

There's nothing wrong with your friend saying Dansko shoes are uncomfortable for her

just like I don't get what the big deal is when people share high heels are uncomfortable

for them. So what?
