www.linkedin.com/pulse/article/20141105164315-283620963-the-genius-of-wearing-the-same-outfit-every-dayI work in a manufacturing area and have to be out in the plant a lot, so I don't wear nice clothes. I wear khaki, black or blue jeans and a t-shirt style shirt (just a step above t-shirt) or long sleeve cotton shirt in the winter. I always make sure I have a variety of color shirts to match my pants. Maybe I should rethink. One of the jobs I just interview, everyone wears company uniform (work style) shirts, even the plant manager and admin staff. I'm thinking if I work there it should cut down on work clothing costs.

It's like schools requiring uniforms. If you want to show individuality you can change clothes when you get home.
It's good advertising when you are out to lunch and does build a team at work. Especially if the white collars are wearing them also. The style is a lot better.

Some work stuff is just butt ugly.
And what is it about high waisted khakis with pleats? They do not look good on anyone, but especially people with a belly.

After years of working from home, I'll be going back to the office next year. Before kids, I spent a lot of money and time on clothes. I liked to go 6 months before wearing the same outfit again- if I ever wore it again. I don't have time, energy or money for that anymore. I really want a super basic work wardrobe. Preferably nothing that needs dry cleaning or ironing. I worked at a theme park from 16-21 years old. I didn't mind wearing a uniform. It was easy.

After decades of working PE which meant shorts and tops or sweat suits if it was colder, I enjoy being a girl finally! I used to look nice once a year, the holiday party. People were shocked that I looked so "human." ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/sad.png)

Some work stuff is just butt ugly. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/yeahthat.gif) I wish I worked at the one restaurant now instead of when I did. Now they get to wear nice cotton polo shirts with the logo. When I worked there it was an awful polyester button down. That thing was a bitch to keep from getting wrinkled (yes we'd get cited for that) and it picked up food odors like nobody's business. It was extremely stiff so you'd be playing with it constantly thru your shift trying to get it to stay tucked in under your belt. I like being able to wear what I want to wear as long as it conforms to OSHA safety standards.

I remember back when I was younger. I would get up, look in my closet thinking about what I felt like wearing that day based on color and comfort. I would then put on whatever the Navy had told me I would wear that day. It was a factor in not making the military a career.

Yeah, it's tough to figure out what even the standard work shirt will be. Even a basic polo isn't going to work on every person. If you get a well-cut one for the guys, the women look terrible. And it's not easy to find nicely cut polos for women. Most of the polos out there are not flattering on women.

I went to training at a software company. Everyone was required to wear logo stuff. But it came in several colors and all kinds of styles.

My suggestion would be Lee slacks for women. They have some kind of stain repellant in the fabric. I wore some old beige ones and was flat on the ground. The dirt brushed right off. They wear like iron. No iron unless left in dryer or washer to wrinkle.
Then you can add different tops and a jacket. A lot of people wear a step up jean jacket style. Not real dressy but not total denim either.
A friend gave me the above ideas because everyone in her bridge group wore denim or black slacks for everything.
When I worked, I used the basic colors - black, white, brown, beige, red, navy blue and gray. These can be mixed and matched going through all seasons.
Another friend got me into scarves and jewelry. They can change the same outfit many times over. One friend has 5 basic outfits then adds accessories. A paperboy style cap in various colors is her signature.
Hope this helps.

These are slacks and not the jeans 5 pocket style.
I read the article of clothing becoming your brand. Interesting.

Made me pause and say, "huh, I thought those were Mom Jeans?"
The fact that I may not be fully able to correctly identify Mom Jeans worries me a little. That's gotta be a sign of getting old. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/melancholy.png)

Mom jeans. .or as they are being rebranded "high waisted jeans" are back in style. So Taylor Swift is being "trendy". I put them on I'd look like I belong in the SNL skit. I've also seem tapered legs and acid wash making a come back.

While I was working, I pretty much had a uniform of sorts. During the summer, I wore khakis with some sort of colored T shirt. Winter, I wore either jeans or cords with a cotton sweater.
The only time I ever varied my dress was if there was something going on at work, or someone was coming through the lab.

It was also the SAME awful polyester gray and gold plaid in my HS, too. The girls after my class at least got blackwatch plaid, etc. Yeah, each class got a new plaid; lots of uniformity there. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/shocked.gif) A few years ago we considered a parochial school for the younger boys, and visited. DD3 thought the uniforms were cute, and decided to create a uniform for herself to wear to HS. Her uniform more resembled something from her favorite manga more than Catholic school uniform - short plaid skirt, slim polo, thigh high tights in the winter. That experiment lasted one year.

www.linkedin.com/pulse/article/20141105164315-283620963-the-genius-of-wearing-the-same-outfit-every-dayI work in a manufacturing area and have to be out in the plant a lot, so I don't wear nice clothes. Do they provide the uniform? If not and you have to pay, are those uniforms significantly cheaper than the t-shirts and pants you buy? Even if you wear the same thing every day, you will be in them the same number of hours, so they will wear out at the same rate. You can own 2 pairs of pants, wear them 4 times every 2 weeks and wear them both out in a year, or you can buy 4 pairs of pants and wear them 2 times every 2 weeks and all 4 will wear out in 2 years. I know a lot of people who have school uniforms for their kids and they say it doesn't save them any money, because the uniforms cost about what any average outfit costs, but the kids change the minute they get home from school - so they have to buy the uniform and clothing for home. And then they have twice the laundry. The other problem with kids is that it isn't unusual for them to out-grow clothes before their useful life is up - so saying 2 outfits will last twice as long is not necessarily true. Not exactly a one-for-one match with work clothes, but if you have to pay for the uniform, you might not see the savings you are expecting.

I went to training at a software company. Everyone was required to wear logo stuff. But it came in several colors and all kinds of styles. One of my employers competitors does that, but they've had to develop a long list of rules about how to wear that clothing. Down to the fact that shirts have to be tucked in, and that you can't certain styles or colors of pants.

My kids had school uniforms in junior and senior high (that is when their school started them). The were costly, usually ~$30 each for a polo shirt and khaki pants. But they lasted a long time. I never had any that I had to discard because of wear. And the school would have a used uniform sale every year where I would sell some and buy some. For a while we did hand me downs with my boys until the younger one was bigger than the older one. And then in high school when the older one stopped growing, he had some shirts for at least 2 years.
When they came home, they would just change to shorts or t-shirts. My kids normally only had 1 pair of jeans that would fit them at any time. It was less costly than buying new school clothes every year.
School uniforms also = no arguing over school clothes meeting dress code (which happened with DD)

![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/rofl.gif) Walmart and American Eagle both sell khakis and polo shirts, which is my kids' required uniform. Navy/white shirts and khaki or navy pants. You still know who shops where.

School uniforms = no competition in clothing brands. More concentration on academia how short you could make your skirt, how tight you could make your dress jacket, and how many embellishments or extras you could get away with adding until you got called on the carpet for a uniform violation.
There - fixed if for ya (says the woman who wore a Catholic School uniform for 12 years)
