School uniforms = no competition in clothing brands. More concentration on academia how short you could make your skirt, how tight you could make your dress jacket, and how many embellishments or extras you could get away with adding until you got called on the carpet for a uniform violation.
There - fixed if for ya (says the woman who wore a Catholic School uniform for 12 years)
OMG YES, THIS IS SOOOO TRUE! Lol. Also, obsessing about the direction the top of the kilt pin was facing, and what that symbolized about your relationship status. Ha ha!

![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/rofl.gif) Walmart and American Eagle both sell khakis and polo shirts, which is my kids' required uniform. Navy/white shirts and khaki or navy pants. You still know who shops where. I was thinking the same thing. JC Penny has a little uniform section, so does Target. But, I have one friend who went to Nordstroms. That kid's clothes are obviously more expensive than the other kids I know who go to the same school.

Our other obsessions revolved around our name tags. How many stickers/embellishments you could add before completely hiding your name or the background color (designated your class). Where you could wear(hide) your nametag - shirt breast, collar, waistband, under your sweater, on your bookbag. Whose nametag you were actually wearing.

Pop Tart's school "uniform" is that pants/skirts must be dark blue or khaki (no jeans), though jean skirts are allowed. Shirts must be white or dark blue. But that's where the guidelines end. Pop Tart is still only in 5th grade, but and doesn't quite yet understand "brand" for her clothes, but she certainly notices when one friend has a really cute skirt, or when another kid wears clothes that don't fit right, etc. The "uniforms" don't get rid of any of the distraction.
As for work wardrobe, I mostly own business or business casual style attire. I now work in a department where most days everyone is in jeans - everyone except me. I allow myself jeans on Friday, if I don't have any meetings. Otherwise, I wear my more formal work clothes. I am a big fan of mix and match. While my black and red & black blazers only work with black pants, my others (pink, dark blue, white & royal blue, gray) can be worn with at least two different colors of pants (black, gray, dark brown, beige). My shells work with just about any of them. I do a lot of mixing and matching, so it doesn't seem like I'm wearing the same things over and over. But the truth is, no one other than me would ever notice if I was. I had a lovely multi-hued blue sweater that worked with every single pair of pants I owned. It was one of those big loose things that you had to wear something under. I wore that sweater EVERY SINGLE WEDNESDAY for a year. I had different pants, different shirts under it, etc, but the same sweater every Wednesday. No one noticed, or if they did, not enough to comment on it (and trust me, the women I worked with, if someone had commented, I would have heard about it).
Personally, I as long as you are wearing something that is appropriate for your work environment and you are comfortable in, you're good to go. I happen to feel more professional (and competent in my job) when I am dressed professionally, so that's what I do.

After years of working from home, I'll be going back to the office next year. Before kids, I spent a lot of money and time on clothes. I liked to go 6 months before wearing the same outfit again- if I ever wore it again. I don't have time, energy or money for that anymore. I really want a super basic work wardrobe. Preferably nothing that needs dry cleaning or ironing. I worked at a theme park from 16-21 years old. I didn't mind wearing a uniform. It was easy. I cognizantly try to not wear the same outfit twice within a month. I don't think I have enough outfits to go six months. What's puzzling to me, I don't think I "dress up" too much, but my students struggle with recognizing me outside of school. On the weekends, I generally where jeans, a tshirt, my old running shoes, and my hair is in a pony tail. I'm generally a cardigan and midi-skirt kind of girl at work. I keep wearing the same face every day though, so I don't know how they don't realize it's me.
