ners- Got your tagline updated in the last round of updates. Thanks! nikiz628- I'd never make you start another race. If that's easier for you, go ahead and do that. Otherwise, you can subtract whatever was rolled over from your current balance and from your starting total, then add in the HELOC. Or if you want to share the deets, I can help you get it tallied up. Some good news on my front - I got a job offer this week! Big relief to be going back to work. Our goals for paying off the house and retirement will be back on track. My new company does payroll once a month. That's something I've never had with a job; I've always been paid biweekly. I'll be making some tweaks to the cash flow spreadsheet, but I'm sure it will shake out fine.

When I retired, switching to being paid monthly threw me for a loop at first. I finally figured it out.
I had always been paid biweekly or bimonthly.
Being paid monthly, you don't get the extra check that biweekly gives you.

Okay, so the .99% balance is paid off. If it wasn't resetting in two weeks, I would have let it flow but when you get paid only once a month, you have to do the big bills when the paycheck hits. Anyhoo, because I used $2100 to pay that beasty off, the AmEx will be carrying a balance this month along with the Visa that I've been working to get down for some time now. I was going to look into another BT but I don't think the fee or the work is worth it at this point. I will just keep snowballing the two remaining CC balances.
I am expecting two more deposits for my book allowance and I'll receive my housing stipend for most of October (minus Fall break days), most of November (minus Thanksgiving days), and part of December (term ends on Dec 15th). It's roughly another $4200 and, so long as I keep being mindful about my spending, should have my Visa down below $5000 by the end of the year.
I'm averaging $500/mo at the part-time job and was using that to pay down the .99% CC balance but, now that that's gone, I'll start using all of it towards my HELOC.
I'll update in a couple weeks.

91,266.89 still chugging along with this debt. a little tight on money again as DD was between job and helping her out a bit. She has 2 contract positions she is working right now, so hopefully can get something paid soon, but it will likely be a few weeks at least. hopefully though before Nov rent.

I forget what I included in my last update, so forgive me if I mentioned any of this before (other than the impending layoff. *that* I know I mentioned).
I spoke with my financial advisor about all the numbers and logistics details I've been given, regarding separation from my employer. as in, lump sum payout of severance, COBRA, among other things. basically, what I'll be doing is BT'ing the non-racing balance one more time in order to keep cash on hand. I'll continue to pay minimums plus interest, rounded up to the next $50, until I'm settled somewhere else. my 401k is also staying put until I'm somewhere else, so at that point I can decide whether to roll it in to the new company's plan or roll it into the Roth I have with his practice (firm? office? 🤷♀️)
I've already been applying for new spots, and have interviewed for one so far. I have to work til the cutoff date in November, though, or forfeit my severance (that won't be a problem lol...). due to my pay level and time of service, I have severance til almost the end of April. I'm hoping to take some time between jobs, and not start anything until January. since I have the cruise booked for the end of January, we'll see how that actually rolls out.

It's months like this one that make once-a-month paychecks irksome; especially if your deposit shows up early. My deposit showed up the Friday before Oct 1st and Nov 1st falls on a Friday so it'll be five weeks between paycheck deposits.
In looking at my PL and Auto loans, I'll be down from $7XXX and into $6XXX for those balances after the Dec 1st payments.
I'm putting in extra shifts at the Part-Time this week and next since I have a lull in between school terms (and we're getting a TON of shipment for the November collection).

Another reason I'm not a fan of BMO Bank...
I paid that CC balance off Oct 4th. The billing cycle ended Oct 7th so it was sufficiently before that date.
Wouldn't you know, those turds charged me $1.23 interest.
Yeah, I'll be calling them tomorrow to get that reversed.

If it wasn't a card you pay off every month there is no grace period and the accrued interest would not have been added on until the end of the billing cycle.

There still shouldn't be any interest charged when it DOES get paid off before the end of the cycle. Now, if it still carried over a balance, sure, add the interest.

This isn't true if it wasn't paid off at the end of the PRIOR cycle. If September 7th end of cycle you carried over a balance you forfeit any grace period on interest and it accrues the entire time until the October 7th end of cycle at which point the interest is tacked on.

Again, I understand the mechanics. I'm just saying that it SHOULDN'T occur. Like, there should be an OR gate in the system or maybe a NOR gate. lol.

hear me out - Im reading that she understands, she's just venting about it. similar to my venting about the summer rental that turned out to be much different than advertised. I caught shit for having the nerve to complain from some, and others backed me up on the venting. that's how I'm reading this post of nidena's. YMMV

But the original post made it sound like BMO bank was screwing her over somehow when that's the normal practice with all credit cards.

She agreed to it, like we all do when we take out the cards. I don't think calling them to get back interest will work. She signed on, just like we do with any credit card.

I was absolutely venting.
I already said I knew what it was. Doesn't mean I can't bitch about the $1 in interest as well as call them to request they reverse it. Ffs.

I'm due an update. I'm happy to say it's lower than the previous amount but that's mostly because of reductions on the installment accounts. lol UPDATE nidena: 10/22/2024 $51,228.13 (8/22/2007 $223,361.20 N453,503,NE648,NPT25)
The next update should be much, much better.

MuffyintheRed #2 10/23/2024 $154,482.28 (06/22/2020 $175,394.16) Amount Paid - ($1,073.42) CU Savings - $25,679.98
This was a good and bad month! It was good to bring my bills down but our frig in the garage died. When we moved the movers dropped it on its top. They did not offer very much in moving insurance so we kept using it. I guess an additional 5 years was good. So next month we will add the charge for a new frig on our bills.
I have a BT ending the end of Dec. so will be sure to get that done between now and then.
My grandson is having Crohn's disease surgery on Thursday, so will be spending some money going back and forth to the hospital in Milwaukee. Please say a little prayer for him.
Have a spooky Haloween everyone!

My two-year old kitty just cost me a few thousand $$. He had a urinary blockage that required hospitalization and round the clock care. If he'd been 10 years older, I definitely wouldn't have pursued the course of treatment but he's not even three yet. The issue is resolved and he's now on special food which means that my other cats are also on special food. lol. Thankfully, the food isn't all that more expensive than what I was already feeding them but it did add extra costs because I had just bought them food a couple weeks ago. Now, that food will be for the strays that come around. To help pay this extra expense off faster, I paused my transfers to my Edward Jones account for November and December and have recommitted to the spending diet that I started in July. I think it will take me two months to regain the ground that I lost in this debt paydown journey.

The big bill that I knew was coming is now paid for. My auto insurance went up ~$250 for its annual total but it's paid in full until next November. I was also able to pay off all that the kitty cost me last week so this month is a treading water month e.g. no more backwards but no improvement.

Some months are just like that, nidena. Treading water is good. Just stay afloat and keep an eye on the shore. You'll get there.
