grammytam, looks like you've got them ordered in which you plan to pay them off. You can edit the post if you'd like to add interest rates.

I had to go back and edit my numbers. I was including a dental expense in my total debt remaining and I have not incurred that expense yet.
nidena, I listed my my debts from smallest to largest. My HELOC has the highest interest rate so any extra funds I have will go toward that loan. My medical debt is at 0% interest. That should be paid off next year and I will use that payment to snowball into the HELOC. The car loan has two years remaining without any extra payments.

Another cost savings step... I subscribe and read 4-5 different magazines. I just got the renew notice for one of them so I looked at all of them. Five were set to auto-renew. Two I turned off completely. The other three gave me a discount for keeping the auto-renew. But...then I looked at their new subscriber rate. Those were $25 to $65 less than the renewal rate. Example: People Magazine is $104 for a 52 week renewal but $39 for a new 52 week subscription. So, I went back and turned off auto-renew on ALL the magazines and will just resubscribe once the current subscription runs out. Plus, I get a 20% cash back on new subscriptions. I need to check the library to see if they have a magazine section and then I'll save 100% on not resubscribing at all.

Grammytam - My husband and I used to live in NC. We lived near Wilmington, what are you close to? We moved in 2019 to Wisconsin to be close to my son and grandkids. I was real tired of going through hurricanes! And the heat and humidity, but definitely not ready for cold and snow!!! Looking forward to seeing you get rid of your debt and welcome to the board.

I usually download some when traveling.

Muffyinthered - I am about 50 miles east of Raleigh and have been to Wilmington many times. It is nice to be within driving distance of the beach but I don't take advantage of that like I should. My vacations are spent either at Disney or on a cruise. The last few weeks here have been very hot and humid. My HELOC loan was for a HVAC replacement. My old unit just could not keep up and I had it replaced at the end of May. I sure am glad I did that even though I hated to take out that loan.

Well my fellow racers, it happened. Last week I was let go from my job. The company is really struggling this year, and after making it through three rounds of layoffs, last week was my turn. I had a feeling it my happen at some point, so though I was disappointed, I wasn't shocked. I took last week to veg and wallow, and this week I'm kicking off my search for what's next.
I can't even begin to describe how relieved I am to have found the WIRR back in 2009. Without this group and the motivation & accountability, I would be in full-on panic mode and freaking the hell out. But fortunately, our only debt is our mortgage and we have plenty of savings to bridge the gap. I'm also hopeful I'll be able to find my next career soon; I feel my education and experience in a wide range of industries will work in my favor. So once again, thank you to the WIRR for helping me take control of our finances and put us in a much better place.

I was laid off in 2000. The company that I worked for was bought out. At the time they assured us that we would not be laid off and everything would stay the same. I knew better and had saved cash in case this happened. I was only out of work for six weeks.

Also my DH drugs went up this month! We paid $730 for 3 months of one of his meds. He take several more drugs than just this one. This is crazy!
Sorry to hear that you got laid off Minnesotagirl7 but thank the lord you lowered your debt enough that you can make it throught this time. Good luck finding another job.

It's quite the challenge when the wheel has been in the "spend" motion for so long and now trying to get it into the "don't spend" motion. Makes me think of all those movies with dramatic braking scenes where the cliff is coming up and the main character is slamming on the brakes and trying to turn the wheel to avoid going off it. Or like all the steer in the movie Australia. Anyhoo, trying to get the momentum going is a challenge but I should see some good change come August. Just need to be diligent and keep reframing my "Oh, I need to get..." thoughts into "Can it wait?" ones.

I don't even know when I last checked in, but I just did a full run-through of all accounts. mostly to see which, if any, have been closed for inactivity lol... while I have a few on automatic "pay the balance" a few days after small subscription charges post, there are a couple that I'm not using at all. I need to keep an eye on those, I think. anyway, still turtling on that last balance. BUT, the interest that came in this month to the HYSA was almost $50. interest paid on the remaining balance was like $6. chiver78 7/31/24 $5449.08 (5/9/20 $138,495.31)

Rukh O'Rorke , thanks for sharing that. It's funny he compared money to losing weight. I'd like to see him throw "while in peri-menopause" in the mix. lol. With me canceling the August trip, that will keep me from spending another $1000 or so on hotels, food, and tax-free shopping. I think the biggest difference between me, my mindset, and that of others is that I'm NOT saving for retirement. I'm already retired so I take that income in perpetuity for granted. And, the truth is, I don't know how to do without. I can not buy things but I've just never really flexed the muscle to deprive myself of anything that I do or use on a daily basis. It's going to be a daily awareness because as with any habit, you don't think about it. It just happens. So...I'm starting with the drinks that I get at when I take my break at work. They cost around $6-$8 but I work 3-4x/wk so I'll be able to reallocate those funds elsewhere. I have bottles of gatorade at the house that I can take with me. The whole multi-pack cost $6-$8 so I'm already ahead. I got them for the USPS/FedEx/UPS drivers but there's no rule saying I can't drink them, too. lol. ETA: I thought I had to start getting ready for work but I was an hour early in my time. So...adding to the above... I'll also be skipping Starbucks. They're really just another habit since I've been drinking their coffee since last century. I make my own at home AND get their foo-foo drink. Usually only once a week but that costs $10-$15 each time. Lemme see. What else? I'm due for another haircut but that's only $20 + tip and happens every 3 months or so so that will happen soon. I stopped eating Haagen Dasz back in January so that saved me $6 for each "pint." I'll try to get fewer snacks when I get gas. I already use the payment method that saves me .10/gal but not getting snacks will further add to what stays in the account. We'll see how all the little things add up in the next month. I've had six shifts since I posted about not buying from the Nordstrom ebar on my breaks nor buying Starbucks--often on the way to work--so that's a good $80 that I was able to use for other, better choices instead. The last time I got gas, I went to Kroger Fuel rather than GetGo which resulted in me saving .20/gal because I used my Fuel Points and I didn't get any snacks. I reviewed my July purchases and the only frivolous things are the ebar purchases BEFORE July 14th and the Mac cosmetics that I took back. One day at a time.

well, I just picked up my car from a service visit. woof. $1300 for a milestone service (tire rotation/alignment/system checks) and a replacement oil pan since mine was rotting out. but, this buys me at least another 50k miles <knocks wood> with continued regular maintenance. it's currently at 215k miles now.....according to the date of my previous most recent oil change, I've driven a little over 5k miles in all of 2024. I'm rather enjoying not having a car payment, and I'm not stressing out if my dogs scratch up/shed all over this old one.
the best part of today? handing back the keys to the automatic transmission loaner car. ick.
ETA - wait! I forgot - the best part of today is that the secondary bonus stuff vested today and I sold the shares. once it settles, I'll have $11,600 to play with. I'm going to pay off this car service and a little extra, and then throw the rest in my HYSA to hang out til January.

At least for now! update, payment finally went through. student loan balance: $93,628.79 92,808.29

Argh! It's the Talbots Red Door Sale. Clearance pants/jeans are $29.99 with some having an extra 20% off that. Do I need any more pants? Nope. Have I put one or two pairs in the shopping cart? Yep, a few times. Each time, I remove them and close the tab on that site. I know I would wear them...a lot...especially since I work there...but, alas, I have two dozen pairs of pants that already get plenty of wear. I DO NOT NEED THEM.
No credit cards were used to make any purchases because no purchases were made.
One day at a time.

today is my 16 year anniversary as a WIRR. I got my original starting balance down low enough to be part of the 5500 Club before making a long series of dumb life choices to dig my updated start balance almost another $100k deeper. the end is in sight, though. thanks to all of you for keeping me sane!

If I hadn't had to see my functional health doctor and PCM so often in the past month, this would be lower BUT my frivolous spending diet is still in place. I've bought nothing in that category in more than a month. I do have one more large expense coming up in November and that's my annual auto insurance payment. Yesterday was my auto registration. Not as low as Delaware--$40/year--but definitely not as high as CA or WA--too high to even remember. It was just $165. Anyhoo, the insurance will be around $1100 for the year.
In other news, USAA said "Congrats! Here's a credit limit increase!" Good for my credit score, I guess.
Update nidena: 8/22/2024 $52,545.63 (8/22/2007 $223,361.20 N453,503,NE648,NPT25)
If you'd like to weigh in, here's my breakdown: USAA/Visa 14.15% $10,320 (this is my paydown focus since it's highest in rate and balance) USAA/AmEx 15.15% $1,065 (this gets paid off every month) BMO/MC .99% $2,500 (rate is until Dec 24)
PNC/PL 13.39% $7,791 BMO HELOC 8.68% $23,853 HRV/USAA .99% $8,080 Mortgage 2.75% $102,239 (not racing)
