Great job chiver78 , and fantastic news on the police detail bill! You say that Citi 1 is "on track to be mostly paid off when the interest rate resets." This is probably a stupid question, and although we'd love to see you pay it off in time, couldn't you transfer the balance to another card when the time comes to avoid paying interest or get a better rate? You have often done balance transfers in the past, so I don't understand why you can't do that this time too. Absolutely NOT challenging you, just trying to understand. Can't wait to see you under 30K next month!!!

I think I'll have it paid off by March. so, 2mo of interest? and, only on the current balance, not like a store card with a look back.

I'm streaming tv on my phone for background noise as I close out this crazy work week. an ad for SoFi just came through. have any of you ever used them? I kind of want to just take out a loan for everything (racing and not) that's on a promotional rate other than the one that's for the life of the balance, and let it sit there at whatever interest rate and just pay it off that way. I'm just so tired of tracking all the shit that I am well aware I have dug for myself. my most recent FICO score (this week) is 744. I should get a decent rate.
anyway, excuse my rambling. this week has been mentally exhausting. I'm sure I'll be okay in a few days lol....

I'd never heard of them so I went looking for their website. I clicked on the "See Your Rate" for PLs and there's a note at the bottom that rates are 7.99% to 23.99%. That bottom threshold is pretty high for excellent credit. I'm sure it's the same as what my current PL rate would be if I were applying now but still.

I don't have a CC with the CU I still use for actual banking. I've got a CC with an old CU I closed other accounts for when I moved south. I also have a 'checking' account with Discover, that exists solely to skim $200/paycheck to the debit card that lives in my phone wallet. I wonder if they have offers, too. I've got two cards with them that I am now using when they tell me the accounts will be closed for inactive use on x date. I intend to keep one when all of the dust settles, but I'm not there yet.

My Discover card is showing offers for both balance transfers and personal loans.
Amex is offering me a personal loan also.
My credit union wouldn't let me do what they considered too big of a balance transfer. That's when the HELOC was opened.

Sorry to hear this chiver78 . I too would suggest checking with your bank or credit union. This said, I think that you may well get better rates with the CCs, albeit for another limited time. You've done SO well the past couple of years, it may be worth your while to do some combination of both ... consolidate most of the debt but try to pay off some of the cards too, which could give you a better rate/promotional offer. Good luck to you. Other thought ... could you use some savings to pay that card off? Because you don't sound like you're in a great place right now ... ETA: You say you're fed up with tracking everything ... but from what we know, you're only "racing" 3 cards and not racing the AmEx "house renovations" card. If you're paying back more than those 4 cards, maybe you can start by consolidating a few of them to make your life easier? I'm sorry you're stressed by this, you've been doing a fantastic job.

I promise! 😎 this was more a question to alleviate me feeling lazy as I start to travel again for work and pleasure. anything reporting to credit bureaus is paid via autopay, for the minimum payment rounded up to the nearest $25. I'm solid there, no question. the question was asked last night after a few cocktails with a friend who, generously, hasn't been on these boards for 15+years and had basic questions, and SoFi came up. for me personally, I've tracked so much shot, for so long, I'm tired. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I just wanna be there already. 🤦♀️ I'll be fine. I'm just really sick of tracking so much. maybe this is my penance, and my push to never find myself here again!

chiver78 My husband and I got a personal loan from SoFi when he retired and we were moving to Wisconsin. They ended up being great. We didn't have the loan real long cause we sold our house in NC and paid it off but they were very good. Our interest rate was good but of course that was in 2019, have no idea what they are now. My suggestion, is if you are going to do it, don't wait real long interest is going to go up later this week. Try and lock something in.

MuffyintheRed #2 9/23/2022 $164,525.77(6/22/2020 $175,394.16) Amount Paid - $880.10 CU Savings - $25,662.47
It's been an OK month. One of my BT is paid off! Working on the other two. Hoping to have them paid off by the end of the year and only have the Home Depot charge for the 18 same as cash. I am thinking about paying another of my charges with a BT but having decided yet. It is much larger than the ones I have now. If they raise my interest rate on it, that will make me do it.
Hope everyone is enjoying Fall and not eating too much Pumpkin Spice.

interest rates went up another 3/4 of a point this week, ugh. I still haven't done anything with the SoFi mailing. I had a call with the guy that manages my IRA, of funds I rolled over from my first employer. I opened this account not long after moving to Cape Cod, alongside trying to obtain life insurance. I did the blood tests, and whatever else medical, and then I hedged at something and my deposit was refunded. in hindsight, I have zero dependents, and am not likely to find myself with any, so this isn't anything for me to worry about. basic benefits in the pharma world at my level include 2x salary's worth of life insurance. that won't cover the current balance of my mortgage, but if my sister can't handle what's left of it, she's not the frugal saver queen she's claimed to be. but, the convo with the MetLife guy. after we went over the hit my IRA took this year, he asked some questions to update my profile in their system. my W-2 number from last year, whether I have a 401k now and what % I pay in, mortgage details, and any debt/savings I might have. I relayed the racing balance as "poor life decisions" which is really what that all is, and that I'm hovering around the balance line of paying shit off as quickly as possible vs having liquid savings to buffer emergencies. he was pretty receptive to this productive conversation, and I have a check-in when I'm done paying off my racing balance - which really means, paying off everything but the "5.99% for the life of the balance" and this was actually a detail I mentioned as I explained my paydown plan. so, that will probably happen next summer. all of that said, I think I'm in solid shape at the moment. I'm still looking up from the bottom of a big hole, but it's nowhere near the crater I was in before I sold my house. and I'm glad I dug in my heels at the suggestions to file bankruptcy, b/c my credit score is already back in the 750s. I took a hit when I opened the JetBlue card last winter, and another when I made the BT move for the projects card in the spring. thanks for the SoFi insight and sanity check, everyone I'm going to pass for now. they send me junk mail weekly, I might reevaluate after I pay off this smallest racing balance.

SoFi sends mail to DN1 weekly, too. I am their permanent US address. After I opened the first one, he told me to toss them without opening. I take the name and address off and recycle. You have made great progress chiver78

Update Mourningcloak (3): 9/28/22 $60,745.81 (12/8/2021 $61,046.20)
Progress this month! Finally under the starting amount. We are finally hitting a season in our new house that we've already lived through so it feels like expenses are starting to go down. Now we just are doing updates on things we hated last year or that we postponed rather than starting from scratch. Halloween is a huge holiday for my husband, but I feel like he went all out last year so this year should be small additions to decor at most. We got a surprise tax rebate from the state this month so I threw that at a credit card so that the cards we regularly use are all at $0 again. Now to keep our spending in check so that they can be paid off every paycheck. Praying for no large unexpected bills between now and the end of the year!

Well, thought I'd be able to get a lot more paid off this month, but put $750 down on a cruise as well. Still on track to finish by my Dec 2nd deadline now that I am getting paychecks of more than $250/week that I was earlier this year.

Two trips happening this month and then I'm not going anywhere until Spring. That will allow me to catch up on the spending that I incurred this summer (and this month) and prepare for 2023.
My first trip, this month, will be my first trip to my hometown in five years. My kids' adoptive mom is getting married again and I was invited to the wedding. It'll be nice to see old friends from HS and family members that I haven't seen in years on this trip. The plane ticket and rental car are paid for but not the prepaid gas and taxes on the car nor the hotel stay. Thankfully, the room rates have gone down since I made the reservation and appear to be $50-$100 less per night. I won't know, for sure, until I check in.
The second trip will be helping a friend move from AR to OK and catching up with more old friends and other family. I haven't seen this friend in more than a decade so I'm very excited to be able to catch up.
I'll post an update in November, once all the expected upcoming charges have posted to the account.

This is driving me nuts, I want this gone so I can move on to saving for fun stuff instead. Since my income from my job is enough to cover my bills for the last few months of the year I've decided to go scorched earth. Anything that comes in that isn't directly from my paycheck (mainly child support, selling stuff, farm sitting money etc that I normally needed to live), I am throwing directly at the debt the day it shows up. So got a $300 CS payment today.
