Mourningcloak (3): 8/16/22 $62,186.45 (12/8/2021 $61,046.20)
Long overdue for an update. I think the last I updated was in March when we had a triple slam of three unexpected bills. Unfortunately, still recovering, but getting much much closer. I do think that I might be able to at least get below my starting point this month depending on whether my math was correct. I'm estimating I should get about $1k extra in this week's pay when they pay out some comp time from last year. We will see.
Thankfully, since March, nothing has been crazy. We've been able to enjoy the spring and summer, did some small projects around the house, and despite rising costs were able to continue hosting picnics throughout the summer. DS2 has just started back to school, and as much as I enjoyed a sorta relaxing summer, I am looking forward to getting back into a schedule. I do better with finances when we aren't occasionally splurging on summer activities. Next year I need to budget better for summer fun!
These were my 2022 financial goals: Pay down by $10,000 total
Pay off PayPal Credit, Verizon Visa, PayPal Mastercard, Amazon Store Card, and Lowe's
Not anywhere near the first goal. For the second goal, it's a mixed bag. Currently everything except PayPal Credit has been paid off. Wht isn't paid off on that are all 0% promotional purchases, earliest expiration date in October. But the Verizon Visa and PayPal Mastercard are paid off because I did a balance transfer to my new credit union card. I use the Verizon for my expenses and bills, my hubby uses the PayPal for groceries and his expenses. I found when I could pay them off each paycheck, I did a much better job of catching when we were splurging too much and reined it in quicker than I've done this past summer.
I feel like I'm rambling. What do you all do for encouragement when you are going frustratingly slow?? Currently, I can at least name the things that have slowed/stopped/back tracked our progress, which does help. It's not like we have nothing to show since anything we spent this summer was either for improvements at the house or for sanity (picnics, gas to get to the park we have season passes for, a trip for my husband to attend and pick up DS1 from his graduation and trip to drop him at his next station after a week with us, and a trip home to see family I haven't seen since before the pandemic). So I at least don't regret why we are where we are, which is so much better than in past years. But still, I know I didn't post in months because of my frustration and don't know that that really helps at all, you know?

A little bummed. Got my property tax refund and had earmarked it all toward going towards this card, but I'm so in the hole this month I needed most of it just to bring me up to zero in YNAB. Back to school stuff, and sticking money into my camper to fix it up to sell ate up nearly $700 alone. But, I sent off another $500 to the card this morning, bringing me up to $800 for August. I probably shouldn't have even done that with almost two weeks left in the month with $65 for groceries and no more gas money, but we'll see how it goes. Both vehicles are filled up, but I have to take my oldest back to college. By the end of September things won't be so tight anymore, but it's getting close to digging for quarters in the couch cushions level now!

Yesterday, after realizing just how sick I am of sitting at my desk to watch anything--a DVD, a Netflix movie, anything--I decided to remedy the situation. It has been like this since I packed up and/or sold most of my stuff before I left Delaware in Fall 2019. That is three YEARS of sitting at a desk rather than in a comfy chair or on a comfy couch. So, I went and bought a couch, two chairs, two side tables, a full stack component stereo system with speakers, a TV (splurged on an OLED), and a DVD player. What I didn't bring home yesterday is getting delivered next week. These will all be set up in the basement so that I can continue to paint and replace flooring upstairs. Did I have the money to pay cash for it all? Nope. Do I care? Nope. It'll get paid off this year. That being said, here's my update before they are all solid transactions on my CC: nidena: 8/22/2022 $24,920.58** (8/22/2007 $223,361.20 N453,503,NE648,NPT25)Dated to coincide with my 15th WIRR anniversary. **had to edit because I realized my formula was wrong and didn't include the PL that I added last month. This sum includes my vehicle, PL, and two CCs.

nidena Did you get the part time job you had 3 interviews for? That will help pay off these new things.

nidena Did you get the part time job you had 3 interviews for? That will help pay off these new things. I did not. They decided to "proceed in a different direction". I'm going to pursue my bra fit education workshops instead. And finish working on my website so that I can monetize it better.

I'm going in the wrong direction. I was debt free but didn't budget for summer. I now have 2 CCs that have balances. I don't know what my paycheck will be because I changed my deduction to single and zero. If they take too much I will change it again. I just want to make sure that I don't have any taxes or penalties come next year. I will get back to where I was and make sure that I save money as well. I'm not going to race the cards because I am embarrassed that I even have them.

Good for you for diving back in. To make it easier on me when I do the updates, can you include your tagline when posting new numbers? nikiz628 - Good update! ners - Nice updates, under $3k on race #2! chiver78 - Despite the churn, good update! mourningcloak - What helps me is perspective – seeing where I’ve come in the grand scheme of things. Thinking about where I’d be if I wasn’t racing here. And lastly, just knowing that life/shit happens. But we keep going, keep making progress. This month has been hard. Had handy man do some work when we got our new dishwasher. And I moved some CC to a BT for 0% interest. So we went up this month, not pretty but it is what it is. We will try to do better next month.
I want to get at least 3 of the BT's paid off by the end of the year. Next month we only have estimated quarterlies extra. Hopefully everything is either fixed or replaced! And we no longer have back to school expenses.
Have a good one everyone.

Minnesotagirl7 Thank you. I have just been dealing with a lot of deaths in my family. A couple days ago I lost someone who was very dear to me. I know I will get through this. I want to take a vacation somewhere once I get back on my feet. (meaning getting my CCs paid off.)

Update:
sealy (2): 08/25/2022 $241,138.48 (12/04/12 $335,199.00) difference $94,060.52 (paid 28%)
I'm contemplating paying the minimum on my CCs and putting perhaps 2K on my mortgage to get it under 240K. My next payment isn't due until October 1st.

sealy, unless your mortgage rate is really high, I would just focus on the CCs. Unless you absolutely need that mental feeling of achievement but maybe wait for a month or so and then pay an extra few hundred rather than the $2k.

sealy I can't imagine a mortgage with an interest rate exceeding that of a credit card unless you are on a 0% offer or something. What would paying down the mortgage 2K do for you?

You gotta do what works for you. If the desire to have your mortgage below 240k outweighs your feelings about the CC debt, then do it. It's not our pocketbook nor our bills.

@minnesotagirl7 Thanks for the advice! Perspective does make a difference! It's indeed frustrating to be making little progress, but at least this year I do have things to show for the slow downs. My husband has his pretty yard and isn't wasting q1uite so much water on trying to keep cheap sod looking nice. We have a few house projects completed, making the house more organized, less cluttered, and easier to enjoy.

Mourningcloak (3): 8/31/22 $61,603.28 (12/8/2021 $61,046.20) Still above my starting point, but lower than last update. Car insurance has crept up on me (should be planning that better!!) and I finally got the windshield for my car replaced so had to pay the deductible on that. Those should be hitting my card before the next update since they were both dealt with yesterday But my escrow analysis happened and my balance is too high, so I'll be getting a check any day now that almost totally covers both of those! Today it feels like I'm making progress towards where we want to be. Breathe in, breathe out. One step at a time. More forward than backwards!

frugalpokermama, you're NOT stupid. You're just a little rusty in this area. Time to dust off those skills and determination that you used 15 years ago in the Grocery Challenge days.

light update this month. I finished paying off the electrical work, and used my snowball $ to pay off what I spent on vacation last week. the rest went toward the Citi card. that's on track to be mostly paid off when the interest rate resets. things are coming along nicely oh, and an update on the detail - the Captain spoke with both officers as well as the tree company, and was able to figure out that they were on site for a couple minutes over 4h which triggers the 8h of pay. but, because I'm a private homeowner and not a corporation hiring a detail, everyone involved thought it was reasonable for the officers to forfeit 4h of pay for this small job. so my detail charge was $564, paid in full. works for me! creditor | start | previous | today | 1st National | $24,168.63 | $14,222.74 | $13,878.29 | Citi #1 | $12,826.10 | $6,577.59 | $5,439.26 | SMCU | $11,958.93 | $10,921.81 | $10,796.81 | Citi #2 | $4,394.29 | $0
