We do have my 9 y/o nephew staying with us for the week as school is closed and his Mom and Dad need to work. I work from home so he can easily stay with me. He is a big help, loves to learn new things, help with sales and actually starts cleaning randomly with no prompting at all?! Yesterday he grab the Swiffer and just went to town...lol. Maybe I should keep him longer??
If your nephew runs out of things to do, he can come over here!

Congratulations paynointerest ! on winning your race and having no more interest to pay to ANYONE!!! And here's a musical tribute to the tune of "(Hey Now, Hey Now) Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House. There is freedom to win, there is freedom about, If we race debt away, and don't give up. It's a battle to win, and well worth the cost, Victory at the end of the road, To KEEP what is ours. Pay no, Pay no, Pay no more interest. Say no, say no, When temptations come in. They come, they come, To build a wall between us, and the freedom we long to win. Murphy rides in the car, makes a hole in the roof, Tempts us to "buy on time", and that's the truth. But then comes a day, we ditch spending and waste, Turn debt into a zero, and win the race. Pay no, pay no, Pay no more interest. Say no, say no, The cost ain't worth it. Brave up, save up, To build a well of freedom, We know we can win.

It makes me happy that a victory song helped motivate you. I "owe" a lot to the WIRs boards. Hate to think "what condition my condition would be in" without it . When I was a WIR newbie, I was so exhausted from the vicious cycle of racking up debt, then paying down (but never totally), then slipping in again. I needed every encouragement and "atta girl" I could get. Your screen name caught my attention. It seemed like a dream to pay NO interest. Now it gets closer all the time, and I dare to dream.

Anyone else having to adjust their grocery budget because the options left are the higher priced ones like organic soups and free range eggs?

I am venturing out to Meijer as soon as they open tomorrow. I am fully anticipating an empty meat department and going over budget getting what I CAN find in stock. Let's hope I am wrong.

DH have had several conversations about the irony that we paid off our house and literally, the week after we did so, COVID-19 cases in the US ramped up, restrictions came into play, and the markets tanked. During my debt pay off journey I had doubts that I was doing the right thing to pay off my house early -- most people thought I was nuts to not put all that extra money into the markets given I had a 4% interest rate. After looking at my portfolios and how much they have declined, I feel better about my decision.
I'm sending good vibes and healthy thoughts to everyone on this board. Please be safe. We will get through this.

I shop at the Krogers on West Washington and on Rockville (Hwy 36 headed out to Avon) and both have fairly full produce sections but mostly empty meat and egg depts, as well as empty in the soups and canned goods sections. But there was plenty of ice cream.

Minnesotagirl7 I didn't talk to my bank. I have about 3K left so I'm just going to continue to focus on paying it off. I'm thinking I'm just going to pay the minimum on everything and save. I feel like I'm in storm mode. I also get discouraged because I still have over 17K left to pay off my truck. I'm excited and thankful that it's my final big debt but frustrated because it's such a big number.

Sealy, It sounds like a good plan to me. The savings can be good to have if there would be some turbulence ahead, and else, they can be redirected to debt payment once it calms down again.
And considering how much you have paid off, you will pay off that too, one payment at the time!

I am also thinking of reducing my payment to my 0% CC to the minimum-ish and save that extra $200/month just in savings.

But there was plenty of ice cream. How funny! When I lived in Indy (on campus at IUPUI on Michigan- my apartment was directly behind the zoo across the river), I always shopped at that Kroger or the Meijer on 36. Honestly, 36 is how we come in to Indy, so even now I prefer that area. As far as my grocery trip today, going as soon as they opened (minus the early hour for elderly), I was able to get everything I needed. Just in time, since Indiana is locking down tomorrow.

Guess there is no better time to update then in the middle of a pandemic! All numbers are as of this evening; And that does not include a 35k hold on my credit cards; yes $35,000 HOLD on my credit cards. Let me start at the beginning: My brother was held by ICE at the end of January while entering the US. He was stopped because last time he was in the US he stayed for 4 months and went to Haiti and was returning within 3 weeks. They were questioning that which is simple: the country is in chaos, my brother job is closed in Haiti (the owners closed shopped) and it is not like he is doing anything there so he comes to the US and stay with either I or my cousin. Not sure where things got lost in translation but they accused him of overstaying his visa (which he did not); working in the US which he did not and by the time a Haitian speaking ICE person got there by 11 PM to properly translate and explain to them it was too late they have canceled his visa. So my brother requested asylum... He was held at their Broward detention center in FL for 5 weeks, flying back and forth to make sure he is ok, consulting with lawyer, retaining an immigration lawyer in FL at first then DC , paying them, paying $5,350 fee for the bond and $35,000 on my credit cards... he has now been released to me. And that is only 1 part of all the issues going in our home currently.... My wife was accepted into a PhD Program but at her alma matter in Albany, NY and that is the big discussion going on currently. Moving there is that the right thing for our family? Would it be worth it? The Return on investment? The cost of moving there, how would we? Jobs? Transition? All that… Discussion have turn into arguments and what not, she still have not declined or accepted the offer : so discussion is still on going. Another day.... cawiau 03/26/20 - $107,068.71 (12/19/19 - $90,718.63)

TheHaitian, that really sucks. Vent away if you need to. With my house closing on Tuesday, I'm expecting a net of, at least, $15,000 from that which will go right to the CCs. I had to start using a second one last month when the inspection of a potential buyer--the one before this couple--identified some issues. My realtor suggested I go ahead with the repairs since they could only help with selling the house but it was still another $1300 spent on the house. I'll be very happy to get my debt back down to only one credit card with a balance of no more than $2000. That is so much more palatable than what it is currently. Last night, I mapped out a general paydown plan and should have both CCs and one of two student loans paid off by the middle of September. If we get this virus contained and it becomes safe to work again, that pay down will be much quicker. Our emergency-pay hours are capped at 12/wk.

So the decision to slow pay these looks like it may have been smart. With COVID-19 just hitting our shores last week the island is semi shut down. My job is still open but we are unsure how much longer that will be. Luckily, I have managed to bank about $6,000 so far this year so hopefully things won't be so bad.

Update to Race #2 and #4!! $427.28 paid off in the last 2 weeks!!
Normally I am bummed on the low update weeks, but this time I don't even care! We have so many exciting updates coming up with our debt, and this is just one more step towards that. Next update will payoff the Store Loan! I will FINALLY be able to start a snowball!! Not only will we have the $100 per payday from the Store Loan payments ($200 per month), but we also cancelled our cable and switched to Hula which is saving us $100+ a month. We are going to use the $100 savings plus the $200 Store Loan payments for our snowball ($300 total) and will be going after Race #3 next, it is our highest interest rate.
I am not able to go out and shop for my side biz of reselling, but I have plenty to work on here and I also have a large toy consignment I am working on for a friend that is going really well and will be some nice extra money for each of us. All of my sales are now outdoor pickups with no personal contact, money is not touched for days after being received and hands are washed immediately after each payment is received.
Still not too many changes for us with Corona. I am starting to get a bit of cabin fever now that we have been having some warmer days. Been taking advantage with open windows and will need to get out for some walks too. Both hubby and I are still working full-time so we don't have extra time there, but with no where to go (I miss the casino!) we have been getting some projects done. I cleaned my whole bedroom including vacuuming under the bed....not gonna lie it's been a few years since that was done! I have been very diligent in my social distancing and only leave the house for drs apts and as of now, no one in my county has been confirmed.
Savings is at $12,590.00 Celebrations for this update:
-$427.28 paid off in the last 2 weeks!!! -Only one more payment left on the Store Loan!! -MOs mortgage went under the next $1000 mark!! -Total Debt went under the next $1000 mark for the 2nd update in a row!
