That's really interesting! I've never heard of a meat CSA before! (As far as I know we only have produce CSAs here. I've never subscribed to one for us but I gifted my DS1 a subscription to one when he lived in Paris with a bunch of roommates, and they had a blast with it.)
How exciting, good luck!

Cooking meals is a constant struggle for me too, Sarcastic, so I sympathize. Batch cooking worked really, really well for me for many years, but as my kids have gotten older and "flown the nest", I've been much less disciplined about it than I used to be. I think the key to batch cooking is discipline. But it's great, if you can bring yourself to do it. Even if you don't want to dedicate a day on a weekend to it, when you do cook, try to cook double or triple portions, and freeze the rest, in individual or (at most) 2 person portions. If you can keep it up for even 2 or 3 weeks at a time, you will end up with a bunch of healthy, home-cooked meals in the freezer. Also, my DH has a HUGE appetite. So one of the things I used to do when I batch cooked (and still do when I have leftovers) is to freeze the rest IMMEDIATELY. I do this for myself a lot. I love leftovers and this is really easy for me. DH is so freaking picky about what he'll eat that's been frozen and thawed. I do make veggie lasagnas for him, usually a few at a time and he'll cook one and take it for lunch a few days. DH is supposed to be coming up with a list of things that WE can make together and freeze... things he'll actually eat the second time around. a while back, I made a big batch of frozen burritos that were really good! I made about 10 for each of us. His had rice, mine didn't. Mine have been gone for a month or two, he still has some left. I don't get why he is so finicky about eating them. THEY WERE DELICIOUS! lol

I had nachos on a smaller plate again tonight. 3rd time this week. I cut portion size on ice cream and chocolate silk for dessert.
I also have sloppy joes from the same ground meat.
My new thing is to cut just a tablespoon from the foods I eat and like the nachos use a smaller diameter dinner plate. I quit recording all foods and exercise as I was way too focused on food.

How exciting, good luck! it is kind of along the idea of buying half a cow or pig or whatever... you get a certain amount of pounds of meat a month... ours is beef, pork, chicken and eggs. We'll get different cuts of each animal and it varies each month. We don't find out what we get until we pick it up, so it should be interesting. One thing I like, is that they throw in bones... for making stock. awesome!

Reading and typing about food triggers the hunger for it. I won't read grocer ads unless it's just before eating. The same with recipes.
Smell works the same way. DH and I had a large meal and went by a Mx food place and the triggered our mouth watering. Our stomachs were way full. Fast food restaurants usually have the smell of fries frying.
I turn the magazines over at the fitness center if they have cakes or treats on the front.

Do you choose which meat you get?
Here I'd be very worried about getting meat from animals I won't eat so I'm curious if you can choose the type of meat. I'm guessing you probably can, because there are people who don't eat certain meat for religious reasons.
Some French people eat rabbit and horsemeat and organs, I definitely don't, that's why I'm curious about this. (What starts in the US inevitably ends up coming here a few years later.)

Today, we got grapes, Asian pears, pears, kale (yuck), salad mix, broccoli, potatoes, squash and poblano peppers. This cots us $40/week and I still need to pick up more veggies. The grapes are gone, I ate them this afternoon. This was an interesting experience, but difficult and there was too much waste. We'd get 3 different batches of greens, and by the time I'd get to the third batch, they looked like crap.

Yes, you can say no beef or no pork etc. There are CSAs that offer up more variation with meat including veal, lamb, goat, etc. I believe we can also change it up so that since I don't eat beef, we can say no beef one month and then get beef the next month. Tater tot casserole is the ONE casserole I make, it's crap, but it's really good crap I'll often make it with o'brien potatoes instead of tater tots though, just to cut the fat down a little (I can't handle a lot of oil/grease, use a super lean beef too). When I do it that way, I mix it up the night before so that the potatoes can soak up a little flavor and I like the texture better that way. Otherwise the potatoes seem too raw still.

When DH makes potatoes obrien, which he does at least once per week, he peels the potato, wraps it in Stan wrap, microwaves it for three minutes, and then proceeds with making the potatoes on the stove. It makes it so the potatoes aren't raw in the middle, but there is no "microwave" taste.

I usually fry up baked potatoes from the night before (actually baked, microwaved doesn't give a crunchy skin). I've microwaved potatoes a couple times, and my son recently said something about how potatoes taste "metallic" when they've been microwaved, guess I hadn't really noticed before. But, this way would give me the chance to make o'brien potatoes when I don't have leftovers to use

I forgot about Sneaky Chef. She has an adult cookbook along with her children's cookbooks.
My DH can be insanely picky. His diet consisted of four items when I met him and of course all of them were processed. This diet was supplemented with fast food.
That was a long freaking road. Sneaky Chef helped me keep from beating his head in while I worked on changing his diet.
I couldn't tell him what I was doing for the longest time because when I did he'd stop eating mid bite and say he hated it, even if he was on his second serving!
Then he commented that he was feeling better health wise and was wondering what I was doing so I told him. Nowadays he grumbles but he doesn't stop me from doctoring up pretty much everything I cook.
He also became a lot more open to things in their "natural" state when he realized he'd been eating puree of whatever all this time and it didn't kill him.
I can't stop him from eating garbage when I am not around, but I am hoping that what I do at home at least offsets the damage he does to himself when I am gone. He hasn't dropped dead yet so I must be doing something right.

Ds is that way. He cracks me up. He once asked what I did differently to the lasagna because he didn't like it as much. I said it was exactly the same, but I left out the mushrooms since we didn't have any. The look of horror on his face when he realized that he liked it better with the mushrooms. When he started working on his cooking merit badge for scouts, I taught him how to make it. Zuchini, spinach, onion, mushrooms - all things he "hates". His comment was " That is ALL in there !!!" So we were eating the shepards pie and the conversation goes like this. DS- " This is so great because you get potatoes in the bottom , and potatoes on top" me- uh huh. you like it DS- yes, this is really good. me- ok DS- oh god what's in it. Me- the "potatoes" on the bottom are parsnips and turnips- the potatoes on the top are half made with cauliflower. DS-

Whenever they were on a vegetable try, he'd eat them up, whole, sliced, whatever. One day he picks one up and starts crying and refuses to eat the mushroom. I asked him what was wrong and he said, voice quivering, "it has HAIR on it!". I asked him what he meant, and he showed me--all the little "fins" where the spores are held/released. I told him all mushrooms had those, and he said that no, they never had them before. That's when I remembered we had just bought him his first pair of glasses a few days earlier. I started laughing, couldn't help it. It took him a while before he would eat them, but now he's back to loving them.

I consider myself a pretty good cook, and love to whip up meals. Since I've gotten out of the hospital in September, i really haven't been feeling well and haven't had much of an appetite. Yesterday I bought a rotisserie chicken so I wouldn't have to cook and my son could pick at it. I left it onthe kitchen table to cool, took a Gravol and nodded off. When I woke up, I discovered that Sushi the Cat had pried open the plastic dome, and ate half the chicken with laser-like precision. At least he left me the other half, and had the decency to eat it on the table instead of knocking it to the floor.

My meat CSS offers just chicken, up to an 'everything', which includes chicken, beef, pork, lamb... In lots of combos.
They also have great add ins, convenience cuts, smoked meats, organs and soup bones, exotics ( they have reciprocal sustainable farmers that add in salmon, buffalo, etc)
They make their own sausages, yum.
They are the closest thing to the local, sustainable farm in Pollans Omnivores Dilema that I've found near me... Very sustainably minded.

My husband and I plan out the meals together. He does most of cooking. For some reason, since I've retired, my dislike of cooking has increased. I'm making chicken patties from Schwans for dinner tonight, though, since we found a bag of them in the freezer downstairs. I'm serving them chicken parmesan style with spaghetti and green beans. We work together to come up with a dinner which is appetizing for both of us.
I've also started having an aversion to food in general, and don't like fried foods anymore. When we eat out, there's not much on the menu I want. So, I've lost twenty-five pounds, and have peanut butter and banana sandwiches on whole wheat for lunch.
We work together on the meal planning, and are happier. We eat out once a week.

We don't have a separate freezer and neither do our friends who do the csa. Our freezer was pretty packed, but I have been using thing up and clearing space. We pick-up in a few hours so I will see how successful I was at making enough space. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

Meals are planned for the week and we are doing some precooking and prep work tomorrow. Dh and I went through some cookbooks and marked a lot of new things to try... We actually meal planned for about 10 days. Tomorrow he will grill up half a dozen chicken breasts and we will portion and freeze them for quick dinners like salads, wraps, tacos etc.

i am also going to do some pre-cook prep and have some stuff already done:
salad - 2+ servings worth chopped & ready to top & dress acorn squash - 2 servings cooked & ready to just reheat
Today I will cook up 2 HUGE chicken thighs. Should be enough meat on them bones for 4-6 meals. i will break them down into individual servings, eat 1 today, keep one on hand for Tue and freeze the rest. I have some fresh veggies on hand ready to nuke. By the time I add in eggs, tuna and some quick veggie meals I am pretty much set for the week.
