I'll read it if it doesn't mention Pres. Trump or the White House. If it's just an article about NFL ratings, I'll gladly take a look. Is this the case? If not, my apologies, but the idealist in me abhors the thought of rewarding the NYT for stooping to Pres. Trump's level. A bit lame of you since you were the one floating the idea the ratings were down. Should at do a bit of research into your earlier claim. I mentioned the figure because I'd seen it in a headline not five minutes before I popped into the thread, which happened to be full of people speculating on the topic at the time. It seemed like the helpful thing to do. My apologies for giving the impression that I cared.

To be helpful, better to refrain than post unverified or false claims.

I'm puzzled by the calls for firing.
These are elite athletes, deemed superior to all other potentials for the teams. What overall effect on the sport to wholesale remove them?

Then do post your sources.
Tennesseer posted a source saying that ratings are up. You say you saw only a headline that they are down and didn't read the article, so, what is the story?

Since 70% of the NFL is black, just wondering if some of them are gonna step down so that Hispanics and Asians can be better represented? Wait, oh what? Oh yeah, doesn't apply to them my bad.

The all Caucasian owners are not interested in anything other than a meritocracy.

Sports, formerly a welcome repast from the inane political stupidity of the age, has become yet another venue for fostering conflict in a world which needs entertainment free of the idiocy of political hatred.
Good job, sports people, you've just become part of the problem and have created political acrimony from those who you depend upon, fans.
No good will come of this. Particularly for those who don't want to be part of the pointlessness and self-destructive nature of completely idiotic political blame games.

Maybe not politics, but the level of hatred inspired by "My team" vs. "Your team" has made a lot of people rich.

And I would suggest that the idea that no good can come from this is likely only true for those who refuse to listen. A statement from Richard Sherman:

Good point Shooby. Since racism occurs everywhere, we should just go back to Jim Crow laws. Fuck all the brown people.

I'll watch NASCAR races on TV when they race driverless cars by remote control.

I'll watch Nascar on TV when the cars are Vespas and the drivers are all well muscled young men in shorty shorts.
Hey I may have just invented a new sport.

Sounds like there are some pretty urgent talks going on right now between the owners and executives. It will be interesting to see how this all comes out. It appears some advertisers are weighing in - both pro and con.

Yes, Trump's conservative assault on the NFL is in full swing.

Nascar ratings have been tanking for years along with attendance. Their old man fan base is dying off & it's not exciting enough for younger guys. Tracks that added 10's of thousands of seats in the 90's are now taking them out because they can't fill them anymore. Plus Fox's coverage has Darrell Waltrip. He's so outdated, out of touch, and his stupid sayings are no longer entertaining. There's been a lot of pushback to get rid of DW for years. Nascar on tv is also split between Fox Sports & NBC Sports. So those rankings are only from February at Daytona to end of June. NBC takes over at the Daytona 4th of July race thru end of season early November. NBC's booth talking heads are much better than Fox's.

It appears some advertisers are weighing in - both pro and con. DH just told me his company's owner, who never sends out email, sent one to the entire company earlier today. They will be pulling their Broncos corporate sponsorship. And, I've avoided this thread for 2 days, because I have a life, and I'm going to continue ignoring it. Mostly because of the circular arguments, and usual Presidential hatred displayed here on the Political board. However, I felt compelled to share this with you: I had a client come in this morning who is a Veteran and father of a 13 year old. When football Sunday came up in conversation, it was very upsetting for both of us. Yes, I understand there are some Veteran's who don't care about the kneeling or any of this, don't consider it disrespectful, etc. But there are those that do. And passionately. This whole thing sucks.

This whole thing sucks. Totally agree. You always see the spots on TV or articles with a Vet saying he/she has no problem with this protest as that is what they fought for - freedom. That's all well and good and everyone is entitled to feel like they feel. It's just that all vets don't share that opinion and they should get equal time.
