Again, I flew more than a dozen times last year and the seats don't recline all that much. I don't know what you are all combining about.
Using a seat as it is intended is not the same as dumping a soda on someone. Someone dumped a soda on me I would see what kind of charges I could press.
You all just crack me up

IG This topic was on my news networks this morning. People are fighting and this last situation the Marshals jumped in to protect the flight attendant. which turned out to be a spin off topic of should the flight Marshals have jumped in because they are there ONLY for terrorist threats. Someone dumped a soda on me there would be terroristic threats!

Why? Why is airline seat reclining suddenly a newsworthy issue after decades? Has society become so selfish, entitled and addicted to their electronic distractions that they forget fellow, real life humans are alive, well, and walk among them?
FWIW- when my dad has asked someone to put their seat up he is polite about it and promises to let them know as soon as he is done with his work so they can recline back further. I would feel like a jackass if the person seated behind me had an uncomfortable and unpleasant flight because of my actions.
But it is ok for the person in front of you to be uncomfortable because of your actions?

Again - the person using his or her tray is also using the seat as intended. Why do you feel the person who reclines has any more right to that area than the person using the tray?

I'm sure the police will put your report at the top of their list.

I have no problems using my tray when the seat in front of me is reclined. I do so frequently. So everyone who has had a problem using the tray when the seat is reclined is lying? I also fly frequently, I can't work on a laptop when the seat is reclined. It doesn't open enough. I also worry about the screen cracking when someone suddenly reclines. At least I'm short, I don't have to deal with my knees jammed into the back of someones seat.

So the rest of you are either drama queens or are flying on much different planes than I fly on.

I am with Miss T on this. I have never been on a flight where the seat reclined more than a couple of inches. I have never had a problem wih my tray when the seat in front of me reclined. And I usually recline my seat.

At the end if the day, it is the airline causing the issues. This will be an argument until the airlines stop making seats that recline.

people fighting on flights for any reason confuses me because of the trouble they are getting into! this guy that attacked the attendant, which started because of a chair leaning back, causing the Marshals to identify themselves, got all of them into trouble! then other times, flights are delayed before take off, flights get turned around, or change direction to land eariler, so the trouble maker(s) can get the hell off the plane. people are going to jail over being uncomfortable during there flight.

I don't think I ever think to recline, what airlines is everyone flying that we have seats hitting heads (if that was the case then I guess I would assume a malfunction) knocking drinks out of my hands (again I would not assume that person did it on purpose) when I have reclined it was so an minute amount that I noticed no difference.

I usually make arrangements to seat next to the bulkhead, for the extra leg room, being 6 foot 3; no one in front of me. I don't lean my chair back. it really wouldn't make any differance in my comfort level.
also I don't like it for passenger in front of me to lean back - that does take away from my comfort!

Amen to that. Maybe missed my connection and who knows what else? Arrest the a-holes after the plane lands. Why inconvenience others? Piss poor customer service.

I'm with MT on this. I recline when I can, as the upright position is very uncomfortable for me. I've always flown coach, so the seats have never reclined more than a few inches, such that, sometimes you can't even tell it's reclining unless the seat next to it isn't.
And, you folks do know that the trays slide toward you when you're using them, don't you?

So I'm either a drama queen or a liar? Good to know I never called anyone a liar. But yes, I do think those of you acting like a reclining seat is the end of the world are drama queens

I very rarely recline my seat. Honestly I think it's rude to the person behind you, especially if they are sitting upright and trying to do some work. Depends on the time of the flight. If it's a redeye and nearly everyone is asleep (including the person behind me) than I will recline my seat some. I always look behind me first to see who's behind me. If they look like they need the room I'll stay sitting upright.
My parents just had this conversation the other day. They fly often and they were complaining about that. My dad often tries to work while he is stuck on the plane and people in front of him are forever kicking back and knocking his laptop over or spilling his soda. He's as direct as I am so he will speak up and politely say "excuse me, could you please put your seat back up a few clicks so I have some room to work?" He said he never puts his seat back if there is an adult sitting behind him with their seat still upright. See, I think THAT is rude and I would refuse to out my seat up just out of spite for being rude to me. I never have issues working when the person in front of me reclines. Despite what we are reading in this thread, seats only recline a few inches. That is not enough to interfere with anyone working. There is no way I can use my tray if the seat in front of me is reclined. We fly Delta. Maybe there are different plane sizes? If the airlines would simply stop trying to smash us all in like sardines, there would be no reclining problems. This is who we need to be upset with.

I mean, this is a small example of the larger issue in our society, which is what I was trying to get at on page 1. Generally speaking, we are becoming a society of hiding behind our electronic distractions and social media humanoids, saying whatever, whenever we want. A real life interaction with our seat mate near us, let alone display some polite behavior? Gasp! Blasphemy! Nope, we're going to be disrespectful toward a fellow human, and become shocked when they not only react, but react in a manner we disagree with. It boils down to communication. "Hey, man, excuse me, would you mind scooching your seat forward a bit? I'm working on a report that is due and need my tray. I'll just be a few more minutes." Instead, as Z said, it turned into something disrespectful, and physical.

Fight ensues. Outcome unchanged.

If they out the tray in the armrest instead if the seat in front of you it might be less of an issue. I had seats like that when I was in business class. The tray pops out of the side and not in front of me. Then my reclining seat wouldn't interfere with anyone
