I couldn't imagine paying $10 for a tomato but to each their own. I just got back from lunch at Whole Foods. I had a salad that included strawberries and grilled chicken, along with 2 cookies for dessert and it was $9.72. You ate TWO cookies? How can you stand the sight of yourself? piglet I showed amazing constraint. I wanted THREE! Eh, maybe FOUR

![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/yeahthat.gif) The best places I have found are "hole in the wall" family owned restaurants. We have a great Indian restaurant here that is very inexpensive and a great family owned Ethiopian restaurant. I remember when I went to San Francisco everyone IRL kept telling how expensive the food was going to be. Eh, not really... we ended up finding this small Italian restaurant that had maybe 6 tables and 8 items on the menu. They were very inexpensive and the food was awesome! We ate there 3 times. This was probably ten years ago. I am going to SF in October and I keep wondering if I will be able to find it again. I have no idea the name of the place and we seriously stumbled onto it. I am sure I will never find it, if it still exist at all. LOL Go in November instead! You could meet up with a couple of awesome chicks! And MM, too. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png) I am visiting my friend who moved there last year. I am making him do all kinds of Halloween stuff with me - LOL!

We have a local Mexican food restaurant out in the middle of practically nowhere and it looks like the building should be condemned from the outside but they have the best food and they specialize in seafood. It is always packed when we go. sounds like the Korean restaurant my sister found a couple months back. our Korean friend declared it the best stuff he's had since moving to this area a few years ago. the building is a converted house that looks like the wind could knock it over. last time we went, the line was out the door and down the street by the time we got out of there. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

Sure, but I'd still want it seasoned somehow. If it's just a raw sliced tomato, I'm not paying $10 for it. I can get beefsteak tomatoes at the supermarket for one tenth that price or less, and it takes 30 seconds to slice it. I'm all for paying a professional to take basic ingredients and create something amazing out of them. I'm not paying for his prep cook to slice a raw fruit/vegetable and put it on a plate. LOL. I love how you said "seasoned" and it was equated to breaded, fried or smothered in cheese. I don't generally like my food just plopped on a plate with no seasonings or preparation whatsoever! That doesn't mean I'm a lazy, disgusting fatso that's going to need to be buried in a piano box or something. Doesn't mean I'm not, either - I'll leave that to the imagination. Even if you do like it breaded, fried and smothered in cheese, doesn't automatically make you a fat fatty who's destined for heart disease. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/rolleyes2.gif)

Breaded, fried, and smothered in cheese... the heart disease thing is a very real possibility. You might stay skinny fat, and die in a respectable clothing size, but your arteries will hate you.

Hush your silly mouth. I loves me a big plate of nachos and a crap ton of salty margaritas. I'm going to choose to believe I'm healthy.

For some reason I feel compelled to add that I'm having 2 McDonald's jalapeno doubles and a large Dr Pepper for lunch. Judge away.

Marketing has nothing to do with the fact that you apparently haven't eaten a meal since 1971! Lol :-) Well, if one redefines the four basic food groups as Stuff with Cheese, Stuff that's Deep-Fried, Stuff with High-Fructose Corn Syrup and Stuff with Animal Protein, no, I haven't. And I'm happy about that.

I believe the Morton's tomato does have a dressing on it... you can go on line to find the menu. After all of the chain restaurant snobbery on this thread... at the end of the day, Morton's is a chain. HAHAHAHAHAHA
It has dressing? What was all the yammering about "why ruin a good tomato"...I guess those marketers CAN convince someone to ruin natures bounty with dressing ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

In her defense in parts of the country the two things do seem to mean the same thing. Cooking in the south does seem to consist of breading and frying pretty much everything. I ate deep fried stuff while I was stationed there that I didn't even know you could deep fry. Crawfish tails with dipping sauce were pretty good. They had them everywhere, and each restaurant had their own unique sauce. We ate a ton of those things. And in the South's defense, not everyone down here cooks like that. If I do want something fried, I will go buy it instead of do it at home. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png)

I'm from the south and the only one in our house who has ever deep fried anything is my Jewish Yankee boyfriend.
Although, to be fair - the fish and chips were tasty.

That...Actually it baffles me how ANY of the chain places survive in Chitown. The most puzzling is Red Lobster. Who the heck visits Chicago and goes to Red Lobster? And it must be tourists because I've yet to meet someone who lives here and frequents this, or Chilis, or Applebees, or Outback, etc.. ad nauseum

There is a vast amount of healthy options that are not just a tomato on a plate. if I choose to have that tomato with some basil and balsamic I don't think I'll be any worse for wear - I could probably even add some feta (I'm a cheese loving disgusto). And you can season a grilled chicken breast (or any other meat or vegetable) to add flavor without cheese or fat. I'm not sure why you seem so determined to believe there exist only two types of eaters - you vs everyone else in the country who eats nothing but a 3lb plate of deep fried butter and oreos.

3lbs of butter and Oreos... I'm not shoving that in my body in a crowded place where there might be a line for the bathroom. The mess could be epic. Blackish butter chunks coming from both ends. I'm doing that shit in the privacy of my own home thank you very much.

Challenge accepted. Now, I just need one of you southern broads to tell me how to fry butter and Oreos. I'll put it on Youtube and everything. Step 1 - Purchase deep fryer Step 2 - Loop kicks your ass Step 3 - Return fryer Step 4 - Eat sadly non-fried oreos and butter by yourself in dark room
I think that might be how it works out for you?

Fried Oreos are for pansies, you need to go for the deep fried bacon wrapped corn dog. That should clog your arteries much faster.

Fixed. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png)
Besides fried butter was a one year thing at the Iowa State Fair, it doesn't exist anymore.
Dark should go for the deep fried bacon dog on a stick, the fried bacon brownie on a stick and fried cheese on a stick. That should do the trick.

Either way - I"m not eating it. I prefer my deep fried foods to be onions, corn dogs, shrimp or french fries.
