Milee, it's not about genetic problems. It's about sins the birth parents may have committed, resulting in spiritual problems for the child. If the adoptive parents do not know what the sins are, they cannot confess them, and thus the child will continue to suffer the consequences of the birth parents' sins. So a big old blanket confession of "I'm sorry for whatever" doesn't work? Not unless you are Catholic

I would think a faith such as that would have encouraged marriage earlier than 23. She nearly old. And a bunch of her best baby years are behind her. How is she going to accept the blessings of god 28 times if she is starting so late?! Sure 'nuff! She could have had six kids by now. Wonder what her parents were thinking.

Hm. Those people who argue against adoption because of the risk that the adopted child will have all sorts of problems that s/he inherited from her loser birth parents are making a pretty bold assumption that somehow they personally don't have any bad genes to pass on. Unless the speaker is a Rhodes Scholar with perfect health. impeccable social skills and utterly lacking in addictions or flaws of any kind, why would they assume they're from better genetic stock and will somehow be guaranteed to produce a "better" child than the one they'd adopt? I mean, yes, it's kind of cool when your kids resemble you or you see a mannerism that reminds you of a relative, but if most of us look at it objectively we all have some unfortunate family genes that we'd rather not pass down. Our family has a pretty good strain of crazy going on, so it's a good thing to mix in some less-crazy stock every once in a while.
One of the guys my sister used to date was very opposed to adoption and kept talking about all the weird genes and problems that you might have in an adopted child. Meantime, his family tree included cancer, diabetes, laziness and (sorry, no PC way to say this) they weren't a particularly appealing group to boot. He had an uncle that was so creepy looking he looked like a child molester. So how exactly were those genes assumed to be better than the random genes you'd get in a adopted kid? I don't get it. But maybe people are just more comfy with the weird stuff that's familiar to them and think the weird stuff of other people is probably worse. DFs stepson is big on bio kids. Yet his family tree does include a child molester who happens to be his sperm donor, numerous jail birds and drug addicts and crazies, like his mom. WTF? Really? If I were dumb enough to marry him, I'd think my odds were better with adoption.

My DH is all about bio. He WILL NOT adopt. He has 4 drug addicts (not including him....recovered) in his immediate family (brother, aunt, uncle, dad), a history of cancer, ALS, depression, alcoholism, and god knows what else since his mom is adopted.
My family has a history of cancer, diabetes, bipolar disorder, depression, alcoholism, migraines, etc, etc, etc. I think we have finally decided we're just not going to have kids. It seems much easier that way!

That is why I felt so obligated to have babies. You can't just squander genes like mine.

I think that the show is quite boring, but I feel guilty because I dislike Mrs. Duggar's voice so much. I do find it extremely irritating. Her big blue eyes and that little girl voice. Even I admit she's a good person. It just grates on my nerves to listen to her. I think I'm a bad, judgmental person.

Every time I hear it I think she was probably sexually abused as a child/teen. Voice not maturing is one of the common signs for girls that are sexually abused. It might also explain their slightly wacky religious views and whatnot. No idea if it's true or not, maybe she's just one of those people with an obnoxious voice.
