I have always doubted the "Religion of Peace". You have one choice to accept Mohammed as the profit and that Allah is great! No freedom no choice , one religion or death. Rule through fear.

There are also quite a few stories of the militants crucifying people, even the more moderate elements among their own group.

I know these kinds of things have been going on since the dawn of time, with all sides being the aggressor at some point. It just breaks my heart to see it happening again And then I think of how I don't deserve to be where I am any more than they deserve to be where they are and it's humbling. Or more likely just me being the super emotional pregnant lady

This group isnt interested in "converting" - they are still killing people after they recant and pay the penalties. They are just out to be terrorist bullies and I don't really think it would matter which religious shield they are using.

The Sunni vs Shiite schism started in 652 AD. They have been killing each other ever since . Women and children included. The US siding with one or the other will change nothing.

This is nothing new.....they have killed between 5000 and 6000 in the last 6 months
.........and yet we here very little condemnation of them. A fraction of what is going on in Gaza
Simple truth is a lot of Sunni locals are supporting them..... and have actively welcomed them.
I worry that any dipping of our toes in this furore will...
1. Not be welcomed 2. Be difficult to achieve anything 3. Be difficult to get out of. 4. Make matters worse. 5. Leave us taking the blame as per usual.
If countries in the region want rid of this lot...they should do it themselves. Kurdish fighters could be supported a bit....but frankly its a regional thing imo.

So was Christianity the "Religion of Peace", which includes Roman Catholics and Protestants in Europe. There was the Crusades to the Holy Land during the High and Late Middle Ages. There were the Catholic Inquisitions in Spain and Portugal (which spread to the Americas). The Thirty Years' War involved Catholics against Protestants. The Spanish conquest and destruction of the Inca, Mayan and Aztec civilizations, all in the name of God and Jesus. More recently, after the break up of Yugoslavia, the Balkan Wars involving Christians fighting Muslims. These are just a few examples. Many of the above events did happen long ago. Some of them during more recent times. But who is to say some Christian uprising could not arise again. It probably will at some time in the future. This ISIS group is a bunch of religious radicals/extremists in which few citizens in the affected countries want them in control. I believe at some point in the near future, ISIS will be contained and destroyed.

I've been to mosque in central Florida to a snake handling church in West Virginia . Methodist in Ohio along with the Mennonites and Amish and Salt lake church in Utah . I have seen hypocrisy in all of them. Since this is America and the freedom to practice your religion is guaranteed and protected makes for a great country. Head on over to Iraq and preach your faith or lack of it. "Islam is great" and "Allah be praised" better come out of your mouth or it's literally off with your head. Let's stay in the 21st century on this topic. Side note .. read the 2 books in the Quran. One was written in Medina the other in Mecca. One when Islam was a minority and one when Islam was a majority ! You decide! Me I've made up my mind. Prayers for the non - believers

Prayers for the non - believers I was close enough to the 21st century inferring to the Bosnian genocide and ethnic cleansing of Muslims by Bosnian Serbs (Christians) during the breakup of the former Yugoslavia in the early to mid 1990s. Few of the world's religions can claim the title of 'Religion of Peace'. Islam and Christianity have historically fallen short to be able to claim that title.

Technically you're taking a hiatus in 2016, up until some radical Islamist faction moves in to invalidate every last accomplishment made in Afghanistan over the past 8 years in the span of six weeks, and you're compelled to go back in and bomb things right again.

Have there been accomplishments in Afghanistan? Can bombs make things right? A: no. and that pretty much spans the whole argument, right? the next question is: do you think the US military knows that, or not?

Members of the US military know things. I would guess that some know this, some think otherwise, and some don't wish to think about it and just go about their daily tasks.

Have there been accomplishments in Afghanistan? Can bombs make things right? Not sure. I have not heard about ISIS putting heads on park fence posts there or burying 500 people alive in mass graves. Doesn't mean it isn't happening there I guess. I don't know if bombs make things right. Sometimes maybe.

PNAC Wasn't that a defense industry lobbyist group?
Tell you one thing though- I would almost side up with McCain on this- when you have a ten year old kid holding up a severed head it might be time to exterminate these animals. So far it is a better reason for troops in Iraq then Bush ever had.

Correction- 7 year old. That's the problem with this world in a nutshell- the assholes pass off their bullshit to their children and justify it with religion.
Want to talk people that need the death penalty- there you go. I'd pull the trigger on that oxygen thief. No question of guilt and needs to be put down.
