Yes. I can meditate for 15 minutes. Or I would nap.

It depends on what's been going through my mind. Bad shit--then no. Usually, no problem.

I do it all the time...usually its my imagination more than my thoughts (but maybe they mean the same thing?) I got my best ideas for my writing sitting alone with my thoughts (usually on the can - I don't know if that effects the thoughts any, though) I see other people that seem to be afraid to just not be plugged into some device at all times. When I go for walks, its just me and nature (neighborhood), but I see people walking and talking on their cell phones. Like they can't just go for a twenty minute walk without being able to communicate to someone. I weep for the future.... Same here. I don't even take my cell phone with me when I go for a walk. The most disturbing thing I have seen lately though are entire families sitting in restaurants not saying a single word to one another because they are all on their electronic devices. Last week I met some friends for dinner and we noticed a family of 4 next to us and every single one of them was playing on either an ipad or their phone with zero interaction between the parents and the kids. Later I went to the restroom and passed another family doing the exact same thing. I thought it was kind of sad. Yeop, I've seen the same thing. Why even go out to eat together? I think the saddes thing I've seen in along time was when I was out for a walk. I saw a little girl sitting in a swing, next to her was her dad (I imagine) talking on his cell phone while the girl just sat there waiting for a push. Just hang up the phone and spend time with your kid, ya jerkoff! Do you not see her sitting there??!

I can sit alone with my thoughts. It's not always serene though, my mind is like a little kid bouncing off the walls sometimes. It's much harder for me to sit alone and try to quiet my mind (meditate) for any length of time.

There are days when I would kill for 15 minutes to myself to stare at a wall. Someday's I plead with people. OK it's more like "LEAVE ME THE F$# ALONE". But that is just me.

Yes, I've done so for far longer than that. Heck, I lied in bed and stared at the ceiling for about an hour and a half last night before finally going to sleep. I wasn't dozing or daydreaming like that, I was actually quite awake.
Being an introvert has it's pros sometimes. Sometimes, being alone with my thoughts can be a pretty interesting place to be.

Is this a trick question? I never have enough time w/o distractions to just think my own thoughts. Mindless tasks like washing dishes are good for letting my mind roam, but just soaking in a hot bath with my eyes closed is better. I can easily stay in there for an hour if I could manage it.

Dangerous pastime. First my mind gets bored and leaves.....then my thoughts with no mind to anchor to drift away. In fifteen minutes I no longer can tell you who I am or where I'm supposed to be. If anyone runs across my train of thought or finds my mind, plese tell them I'm lost on a ballfield diamond trying to create a circle....

Can I drink wine during this time? Because whether or not I can is going to impact how I answer this question... LOL, my answer is hell yeah; give me a glass of wine or two, a clear day so I can watch the sun set in to the ocean and I can sit for a couple of hours...with my thoughts.

I'm old enough for Medicare, I'm retired, and I live alone. Sitting quietly by myself with nothing but my thoughts for entertainment is what I call Tuesday. I volunteer in the ER on Mondays, so sitting and thinking is about all I can manage the next day.
I can't imagine not being enough at peace with oneself to spend even a few minutes alone with no other distractions. You gotta be able to live with yourself; you drag yourself around with you all the time. You can't get away from you.

I can be alone for 15 minutes. When I go for a walk, I have my cell phone because I'm listening to music and mostly singing along, but also talking to myself. The phone keeps others from trying to talk to me or realizing that I could be talking to myself.

I am fine alone or quietly with someone. I find fishing good for that sit in the boat and look at the house on the shoreline. I don't talk on the phone except a maybe 4 calls a week. I have a tv in the room with me and either don't turn it on or it irks me so I turn it off. I can go a day or two without hearing a human voice but then get lonely and watch tv or a news story online. I do prefer my hands busy with something like solitare or farmville, mindless busy.

Yes, its easy for me to be alone with my thoughts for 15 minutes and more. Unlike many, I've decided to befriend my monkey mind and continually re-program it with better thoughts instead of fearing them or ignoring them.
I'm an extrovert but not an extreme one. Depending on my mood, I can play wall flower or life of the party equally well. My natural happy self is definitely on the extrovert continuum.

This morning I spent about an hour alone with my thoughts. I woke up around 6AM and didn't need to get up until 7AM. Going back to sleep wasn't happening but I also didn't feel like getting up so I just laid there thinking all kinds of crap like where am I going on vacation next year - maybe DC or NYC?, not another international trip until 2016 or 2017, I wonder if I will get a $2500 bonus again, I wonder what my raise will be in January, will I get that new title, I know YM logic says I shouldn't payoff my car because it has a 1.85% interest rate but I really hate that car payment... I could go on and on and on. I think I spent a little too long alone with my thoughts this morning. I would rather have been asleep.

I can, but after five minutes, the guilt invades my brain cells and tells me to get off my ass and do something constructive. For some reason "relax" is a four-letter word in my world. And I don't even have kids. I'm doomed.

I actually just heard a psychologist on the radio talking about how the new generation has an extremely difficult time with being alone. They have grown up in a world where technology allows them to be entertained 24/7. They have no idea what is like to actually have to entertain themselves. The psychologist was saying that kids actually need to experience boredom from time to time. I almost posted something saying college age kids likely wouldn't remember a time without the internet and some may not even remember their parents not having cell phones. All of the technology at your fingertips and everything in your face 24/7 can't be good for people especially those who don't know anything else. Dear God! I'm far enough removed from college aged kids now that the ones currently entering it won't remember their parents not having cell phones?! When did I get so old? I probably need those 15 minutes alone just to cry. Crazy kids.... (Aww crap, I'm old enough to say that now?! )

I can be alone with my own thoughts for DAYS, if not weeks LOL.
Unfortunately, things need tending to. I always say "I have a very rich inner life" LOL. It's true though, I do.

I can easily and gladly be alone with my thoughts for much longer than 15 minutes. But in my very few attempts at meditation or clearing my mind and thinking of nothing, I can't turn my thoughts off for more than a couple of minutes. I think it's one of the reasons I have such trouble going to sleep, there's too much to think (and overthink!) about.

Looking at the link again, I don't think it's fair that they didn't let the people play with the shocker thing first, or give them one freebie. I mean, if I was sitting there with the shocker thing, I'd have to try it at least once, just to see. So, I think the test would be more fair if they'd let people shock themselves once (if they want to try it), and THEN start the 15 minute timer.

I'm doomed. same here - but I don't get up to do something and continue thinking then 15 minutes is up / and continue thinking and half hour, and hour has passed then continue thinking / making all these plans and errands and finally think - I really should go to work at least! LOL
