From December of 13-June of 14 I purchased 21 e-books. I read at least 40 books a year. There are weeks where I read 2-3. I listened to 3 audio books in my car this month, but I haven't done that in years. Those were from the library.

I'd say I read between 250 and 350 books a year.
I typically read 5 books a week, if I'm in the "zone" I can easily read a book a day. DH and DS are readers too. It wouldn't be a exaggeration to say that the three of us combined could read between 750 and 1,000 books a year.
I'm not picky with regards to the device- hard cover, paperback, kindle, etc. We had a slight book addiction and decided this year to not buy any new physical books (just buy the kindle version) we have purchased like 5 or 6 physical books so far this year- 4 of them have been autographed by the authors and the others were to finish out a series in which I had all the other books in the physical version.
Honestly- I don't understand non-readers. I come from a family of readers (all except my idiot brother) and their kids are all readers and all the spouses (for the most part). DS' friends are all readers and they swap books back and forth. Many of DH and my friends are readers as well and we recommend authors and books to each other on a regular basis. I have a book with me at all times- if I have 5 free minutes I am reading a book. Waiting for a movie to start at the theater? My head is in a book, Waiting in the car while DH runs into a store? I'm reading my book, DS in his orthodontist apt- I'm reading a book. Dinner in the oven for 20 minutes? you guessed it- I'm reading a book. there were times when DD was growing up that I actually told her to put down a book and do something else....she is an avid reader.

DS has had a few rough mornings because he got distracted reading and forgot to go to sleep at night. We have had to ask him to put the book down before too.

I probably read 40-50 a year. I will never have the time to read all I would like to.

For a year...I'm not sure. I've just finished my 18th since the last weekend in March.( Its time to get somewhere with a bookstore again) I read of late mostly historical books and political ones. They are all paper books. I work with computors all day and refuse to curl up with an electronic version of a book for relaxation. Basically I look for material in English and in German. Libraries around here are very short on my subject matter, so I tend to buy rather than check out. There are about 3800 books in my office/library at home so I should have created a nice problem for the kids to sort out when I'm gone. -banana-Now, the great part....by not using electronic media sources for rreading material, is there any possibility at all of my driving the NSA nuts trying to figure out my reading habits

I'd say I average 3 a week, I prefer either Kindle or hardback, my eyes can't take the small print in paperbacks anymore. I'll read anything, even the phone book if I'm bored enough. My favorites are mostly mystery/suspense/horror.... Stephen King (I have 3 copies of The Stand, 2 paperbacks - cut and uncut & the hardback which I don't recall which one it is), Harlin Coben, Janet Evanovich, Carolyn Haines, Karin Slaughter......pick something. I read for entertainment mostly but now and then something interesting crosses my path, like The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. ETA: I don't think Good Reads counts your books unless you run it through the "currently reading" shelf. I only have 2 listed for the year and I've put that many into it as "read" in the shelves this past week.

I loved the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks! Me too!! UGH! Made me appreciate the strides that we've made in informed consent. After reading what some of those scientists did, I cringed. You don't do that, you CAN'T do that anymore.

Nope.
To be fair- the Boy comes by it naturally. DH and I both used to get in trouble when we were his age for staying up late reading. I love the he gets excited about books and will tell me about authors that he's found and books that he's reading.

I'll make a note to look next time I'm at the used book store. I've also noticed recently that the small print is getting harder to read.

She does have a split personality though, she has the female detective stories that are fun and light and then the other fiction that's a bit darker. I like both. Too much paperback reading gives me massive headaches, which really makes me sad.

I usually shop at the used book store & recently picked up an older paperback by Jonathan Kellerman. The font was so small the words were swimming. Have you read any of his books? You would probably like them since we seem to have the same taste in reading.

I like Kellerman. Kellerman, Gerritson and Harlen Coban are the ones I still buy hardback because I want to read them ASAP.

Unless I start binge reading someone's stuff, sometimes I have a hard time remembering which story they wrote. I may recall the story but not the author. I found Haines on a local PBS show, about authors naturally.

Most of his books have the recurring characters Milo Sturgis - a homicide cop & Alex Delaware - a psychiatrist that helps profile the killer. They are worth the read bust stick with the newer ones. Some of the older ones aren't as good.

I just finished a book recommended by someone on this thread, well the author was recommended. I read their first book, from 1996 because it was the easiest to get my hands on from the library. I was underwhelmed by not completely discouraged. I'll try one of their more recent books and then decide.

For 2013, my New Year's Resolution was to read ten books. I started the tenth late December. I wish I had more time to read. I suppose if I gave up FB and proboards, I'd be able to read at least 45 minutes three or four more days per week. Or housework, that would give me at least another hour per day. Oh , well.
For this year, I started Book #4 today. I vacillate reading for pleasure and professional reading.

Pooka, have you read Christopher Moore? Carl Hiaasen? Dean Koontz? Orson Scott Card? Robin McKinley? Do you like YA, there are some good YA things out there. I adore Christopher Moore! I have the gilded copy of Lamb signed by him. His inscription called me a bitch. ETA: I just looked at exactly what was written. A little preface, we were going to a book signing when Fool came out but hubs decided to skip it when he found out a friend was going to be in town. I went to the signing with other friends and had him sign my copy of Lamb. He wrote, "Dear (hubs' name), You suck. Meghan said so. That bitch." Lamb contains one of the single funniest lines I have ever read. I spit my drink all over my lap reading that book.

I am retired. I am a fairly fast reader & ALWAYS have been a reader
I would guess I am currently averaging about 5 books/week. That comes to about 260/year so I use the library constantly. Could not afford my 'habit' otherwise. I read real, printed on paper books: hardcover and/or paperback.

I love reading, & start lots of books. The problem is, life gets in the way, & I rarely get to finish a book. (I need longer loan times from our local library.)

I read maybe 15-20 a year. Not sure... I read way more in the summer because it is too hot in TX to do outside activities. Work also gets slow in the summer which gives me more time to read. I prefer paperbacks or books on kindle. I don't really like hard back books. They are way too heavy for my taste though I do end up them a lot when I rent from the library. Currently I am reading "Caught" by Harlen Coben.
