I haven't actually "read" a book in quite some time. The last book I think I actually read was the Stand by Stephen King in 2008.
I listen to about 4-6 audiobooks a year. So I guess I'm pretty average (if you count listening to an audiobook as reading). Though perhaps a bit below average compared to most college graduates.

Hmm.....do "kids" books count? If so, then hundreds. If not - 20-30?

50-100. I read everything though. So some of those are short. This would be fun, a What are you reading now thread! That had be numbered too, if we wanted... ETA, I prefer paperback, except for smut, then kindle ... I am coming around to kindle. I like audio. Daughter always says paperback, kindle, hardback as far as what she wants first if possible.

I've never counted but I am pretty sure it's more than 12 a year. I'm known for always having my nose stuck in a book.
I have paper books and I own Ebooks.
If I buy anymore I go with Ebooks since I can have as many as I want stored on one device. If I am checking it out from the library it depends on which copy I can get my hands on fastest. Sometimes I am willing to wait for a particular version and other times I don't.

I average about 1 book a month. I WISH I had time for more.
I like the good ol' fashioned paper-bound-with-a-spine in my hands. I'm such a luddite.
Right now I'm going back and forth between Tales of the South Pacific and Galileo's Daughter. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is next. I don't know how I managed to miss that one!

Oh and all formats. Mostly I check out analog books from the public library. The ones I buy are mostly e-books. Not interested in audiobooks yet, maybe because my commute is short and I prefer to listen to music.

I probably average about 1 every 2-3 months.
I mostly listen to books when I travel, or am doing some boring tedious task at home.

I've never thought about the number of books I've read in a year but it has to be over 10 books, minimum. I have 35 minutes to and from work each day (though I'm more likely to close my eyes than read during the winter months) that I use for reading, I'll go out to the courtyard on my lunch break if it's a nice day, evenings, weekends, vacations, etc.
I try to borrow books to save money but I also like adding to my collection, so I'll order used books on Amazon.

Probably between 50-100. Just reading for a bit after crawling into bed, I go through 1-2 books/week. However, the last book I finished I started on my flight to Myrtle Beach and didn't finish it until after I had been home a couple days. It was on the Borgias and I kept flipping to the front of the book because there were so many people to figure out. Interesting, but not easy reading.

When I was a SAHP, I read a book a day. I am a fast reader.
Now I probably read about 12 -15 "new" books a year. I have to do a lot of rereading. For example, every time I teach Frankenstein, I have to reread it.
I am embarrassed to say that I probably have 200-300 books on my Kindle. My joke is that I'm going broke 99 cents at a time. Unfortunately, it has gone up to $1.99.

I have never listened to an audio book, but I read almost daily. I have no idea how many books a year I read. Having more time to read was definitely one of the things that I appreciate from being able to retire early. While I was working, I went years without reading, because I simply did not have/could not find the time.
Since retiring, I belong to three book clubs -- two at our public library, and one at a locally owned bookstore. I read both e-books and actual books. I like book clubs, because I end up reading books I would not have picked up on my own, and I do enjoy discussing them in a small group. The most recent book club I joined is "Young adult fiction for adults". My 9 year old so far has enjoyed them as well.
My mom was a children's librarian, so weekly trips to the library was just routine for me. Both of my kids are growing up with regular trips to the library as well, and every summer we read at least one "family book" out loud.
Okay, sounds geeky -- but it was a wonderful habit my mom instilled in me, and luckily my kids seem to enjoy it as well.
My husband reads all the time as well. Good thing I love him, because he buys his books instead of borrowing them from a library or reading e-books, and sometimes I think we will have to buy a bigger house just to house all his books!

1-2 books per week. I've just begun to collect books on my kindle, have two 6-foot tall bookcases crammed full (I re-read what I've bought as I will only buy authors I enjoy), a stack of about 15 books my sister lent me, and haven't had time to find the library here yet. I used to have to read to be able to go to sleep. Our new bedroom set up isn't conducive to that activity, so I tend to read after dinner while DH watches TV.

Oh - and a fun thing (for me) we do in our family in honor of my mom. She had an extensive home library, always bought hard-back books, kept them in pristine condition with the covers intact. When she read them, she would sign her name inside the front cover or title page with her signature and month/year she read the book. After she died, her surviving sisters (3) and daughters (2) started passing around the books, and we sign and date when we read. Now one of her granddaughters has joined in -- I guess my daughter (now 9) will probably join soon.
So, every time any of us get together, we have books in tow that we pass on to the next person. It's fun to get one that a lot of us have read.

I love that you sign them as you read them! I still have some of my mother's books. She never signed them, but I know which ones were hers. She gave me the first JD Robb novel a couple years before she died, I didn't read it till later, but I got hooked and kept buying them and passing them on to a friend for a long time.

I would say I read 4-5 a year. I read a little slow and love TV, so only a little time at night right before I fall to sleep. I haven't found anything I like recently, everything new seems to be so dark and serious. I tried to get into Games of Thrones, but I was just too disturbed to enjoy it.

The past few years, I have done 30+ a year - I kept track. This year I am at 12 already but not sure how much I will accomplish with a baby.

I don't like ebooks, audio tapes, etc. For me it's the old fashioned words dancing across the paper that I love.
I read between 20-30 books a year at least. Right now a lot of those are tween/young adult books that I'm vetting to make sure they are appropriate for DD (she's 11) to read as she's getting into more mature stuff.
I re-read a lot of my favorite authors. My personal library easily has over 400 books and those are only the ones I know I'll pick up again.
My mother was also a very prolific reader, but unfortunately we have very different tastes in genres. When she passed the local small town library was very happy to get her collection.

Pooka, have you read Christopher Moore? Carl Hiaasen? Dean Koontz? Orson Scott Card? Robin McKinley?
Do you like YA, there are some good YA things out there.

zero. I ain't the reading type. My best friend here doesn't read either. Startled the hell out of me at first, because all my life I'd been friends with book-readers. Eventually I noticed that, although she doesn't read books, she listens to multiple podcasts (NPR mostly) and is generally far more aware of current events than I am. And can read (online) and write (online) and spell (on or off) as well as I can.

It's probably over 100 in a year. I read quickly. A lot of those books are short 200 page ones. I wish I could read in the car or on a train, it is the one thing that still makes me sick.
After I finish The Hobbit, I'm starting Game of Thrones.

I would also suggest the Christopher Stasheff Warlock series and the Robert Asprin's Myth series for some good entertaining levity.
