Pooka, have you read Christopher Moore? Carl Hiaasen? Dean Koontz? Orson Scott Card? Robin McKinley? Do you like YA, there are some good YA things out there. Thanks oped, I will look into those and yes I read far more YA than a 37-year-old should.

Zero. When the kids were younger I remember making my new year's goals, and my goal one year was to read one book that year. And I did - I managed to get through a single book. I am a slow reader, and I would get interrupted a lot, and then I would have to go back and start the page over to figure out where I was. So, it was a painful experience. Now I don't read because I can't get used to my reading glasses. So, if I read without them I get a headache and if I read with them I get a headache. I save my tolerance for what I have to look at when I'm at work. When I come home, I try to do things that relax my eyes.

I read around 10-15 books a week, not counting the shorter freebies from Amazon. Most of my reading takes place on the Kindle during my hour long train commute. I figured out a few years ago that I no longer had the space to keep adding physical books to my collection. Then Sandy wiped out 99% of the books that I owned anyway. I saved my comics, but very few other books survived. I am trying to find used copies of my favorites, like Needful Things and The Stand, and Tom Clancy's early works. I usually reread these every year.
I have to read YA books for my job (bookstore buyer,) but I am not counting these in my average. They rotate in and out of my office as I pass them on to the store sales staff. I have a couple of bookcases at home as well that have books on them that I give to kids that come to my house.
I will read anything, I don't discriminate. Today I finished a book by David Weber (On Basilisk Station, sci-fi/space opera,) and I also read a book by Nalini Singh (sci-fi/romance author.) Frankly, I bought a Kindle a few years ago mostly because I was sick of trying to hide the cover of what I was reading on the train. I hate nosy questions. I have the Game of Thrones paperback set of 1-4, but I lent it to my dad, so I will start on that when he's done. I didn't want to finish it before the season ended on HBO.
One of the things I hate is when an author begins a series, but goes years between novels (Koontz / Frankenstein series.)

1-2 per year. I've spent so much time reading for work and studying that it kinda killed my love of reading in recent years. I'm hoping to get back to it in the next year or two. I was a voracious reader growing up and could easily read 15-20 books per month. I have several thousand (free) books on my Kindle that I haven't read yet.
After my mom died I got all of her books, so I think I'll start reading those again. She had hundreds of books and a lot of them were series that we read together when I was growing up, so it will be nice to revisit those again. All different types from sci-fi to mysteries, police procedurals, fantasies, etc.

I read almost daily. I always have a novel on the go - I usually try to read at least a chapter (often 2 or more) each night. The genre of fiction novels varies - suspense, mystery, crime/court novels (John Grisham books in particular), Stephen King horrors, or Danielle Steel romance.
I also read a lot of technical books, and have art books, crafting magazines, and cookbooks - usually there's a book open somewhere in the house.
I'm not particularly fond of audio books. It's usually a monotone voice just droning away. When I read the pages myself, I can picture the characters and scene playing out in my mind as I read.

I have the gilded copy of Lamb signed by him. His inscription called me a bitch. ETA: I just looked at exactly what was written. A little preface, we were going to a book signing when Fool came out but hubs decided to skip it when he found out a friend was going to be in town. I went to the signing with other friends and had him sign my copy of Lamb. He wrote, "Dear (hubs' name), You suck. Meghan said so. That bitch."

I used to read a book per week before DH died. Then my concentration was shot and I was lucky to read a paragraph a week, and that was reading it several times.
Now I'm lucky to read a book a month. I will start a book and can tell within the first 2 pages if I'll like it or not. Right now I'm trying to read 'Three Cups of Tea' on the recommendation of a friend. The idea is wonderful but for me is very slow reading.
I like Michener, Tolkien, Andre Norton, etc. This type of book.
I have a Kindle but I prefer a book in hand, paperback. Don't have room for the hard books. Paperbacks I buy at a thrift store and donate it back if I know I won't read it again. Our Community Center has a small library that is an honor system. Sometimes I'll get trash books from there.
Romance novels are so predictable. LOL

I'm kind of like an addict. I have books that are "on the go" stashed everywhere. I buy purses based on how well I can fit a book into them. I have a few books I'm reading on the side table in the TV room because everyone reads while they watch TV right? Now that I got rid of my cable, I dont' read during commercials, but if I have just a sitcom type show on I dont' usually give it my undivided attention. There are a few in the bathroom. I had to talk with my cleaning lady about removing the books from the bathroom. Nothing worse than sitting down and having to read shampoo bottles.
I have a pile of books sitting on the couch downstairs. There are always a few on the table that are either just read or in process. I dont' eat without reading something. I guess the only time I am not reading is when I am walking somewhere and I WOULD read if I could.
I still prefer paperback to e-book although I love the convenience of getting a book whenever I feel like it. They are also much more portable for travelling (I am considering getting an ipad mini because it would fit in my purse better and be lighter than my current one). I love shelves filled with books. I love the smell of them. I love to go through them and find and reread ones I enjoyed.
There is nothing better than finding a book that transports me away. I know that it is a good one when even when I'm not reading it - I'm still in "that place" or longing to finish what ever I'm doing so I can get back. Some people "binge" watch TV but I totally binged the latest Diana Gabaldon book the weekend it came out.

I try to read one book a year, during the summer when the kids do the reading program through the library. Emphasis on the word "try." Usually I get 10 pages in, and then I'm done. I can't do books on tape. I tune it out. I also read/edit for about 75% of my job..

I'm not sure how many I read, but it's more than 1 a month on average.
I love reading, but I'm a painfully slow reader. I often have to read a sentence, paragraph or page at least twice. It's extremely frustrating, but I plow through because I want to. I can read a "light" book in a few days, but if it has any complexity, I have to slow down and really concentrate.
I was not able to read any books from the time DS was born until he was seven-years-old, unless it was required reading for college. I finally decided I wanted to read again and would get up at 3:30, take him to the babysitter's early, then pull off half way to work and read in the car. Now I'm in a vanpool and most of the time I read during the drive.
I really enjoy Stephen King, and have read several books more than once. I spent a year reading the "Game of Thrones series" (because I'm that slow), waiting for the next book to come out. I also like Greg Iles and have a couple books of his waiting to be read.
I mostly buy used books at second hand stores or the library to get them cheap. I do check some out from the library, but I have to renew them most of the time. I have only bought one "book" for the kindle (the Game of Thrones set for $10--so my son could read past me), but I have a ton of books I got free. I read several of the "Anne of Green Gables" books recently, I'd seen the movies but had never read the books.
My son is a book fiend though. He can go through a huge stack of books in a week. When he was little, he'd have a book at school, a book at home, and a book at my parent's house, and be able to keep the plots of all of them straight. He read the Lord of the Rings trilogy as a first or second grader, I only wish I could read that well/fast.

I guess the only time I am not reading is when I am walking somewhere and I WOULD read if I could. I had a paper route from 5th thru 8th grade. I would read books while delivering the paper. I can still read and walk, but not as well as I used to.

Pre-kids about 1 a month. Now maybe 3-4/year. I'll start one and then it gets set aside for so long I forgot how it started and have to reread it. I swear I've started The Tenderness of Wolves 8 times now. I do better with non-fiction if it's something I'm interested in.

I read about 12 books a month (slight exaggeration)! My favorite is still holding a book in my hands even tho I do have a Kindle and use it.

The only place that i don't read is in the bathroom. I cannot watch a long movie, since it would cut into my reading time. So I always try to find shorter movies or watch only half hour shows. The mini is not that good for reading - the screen is not big enough to be comfortable. I recommend the ipad or ipad air for reading, unless you are used to the kindle.

I used to read 3-4 a week (and these were thick Stephen King ones.) Now I'm lucky to do one a month.
99.9% of my day is spent reading/writing/editing. I love it, but it does cut into my leisure reading.

Since joining Goodreads in late 2007 or 2008 (when I actually start logging every book read), I average 15 a year. My high was 30 in 2009, and the next year I went back to school (and I am still in school and will be for the next several years), and the number has dropped a lot. I just finished book #7 for this year.
I read about 60% history/biography, 20% classic literature, and 20% Jane Austen fanfiction.

You & I must have a different level of focus/concentration - I could sit & watch a movie/DVD with DH and have a novel in my hand at the same time. I could read a couple pages in the book while glancing up at the screen - I followed the plot of the movie & book at the same time.
I still do this at night when I'm reading in bed - I have a TV in the bedroom, and I'll be reading while the other half of my brain is concentrating on the program on TV. Yes, my eyes glance from the page to the screen several times, but I can follow both at the same time without skipping a beat.

I've never counted but I am pretty sure it's more than 12 a year. I'm known for always having my nose stuck in a book. I have paper books and I own Ebooks. If I buy anymore I go with Ebooks since I can have as many as I want stored on one device. If I am checking it out from the library it depends on which copy I can get my hands on fastest. Sometimes I am willing to wait for a particular version and other times I don't. That would be me. I usually take out at least a dozen from the library every 2 weeks. The joys of being unemployed. I troll/apply for jobs during the night (night owl, so sue me) and read during the day. Has to be actual books, no e-readers for me. Can't afford one anyway.

I probably have ~12 books stacked on my nightstand to read. When I finish reading, they go into the bookcase downstairs. I figure that I can donate them to the library sale around Christmas.
When I travel, I tend to leave books where I finish them up. I've left them on planes, trains and ferries. I've left them in hotels. When we were in Turkey, many of the hotels we stayed at had book exchanges so I could pick up something unread. Same in Mexico....but one of the things I noticed in both of those places was tat there were way more German books left.
i tried reading on my iPad at the beach, but that is useless. Seriously thinking about getting a Kindle so I can read outside.
I really should go check out the library.

I read at least 30 fiction books a year. Paper, used. When I get a really good one, I've been known to stay up most of the night to read to the end

When I see a new novel come out in paperback and appear on the shelf at the store, I salivate - that's how excited I am about reading.
I have several hard-covers (mainly on display), but almost any day that I'm out, I scour the shelves of the book store or paperback rack at the grocery if I happen to be there, looking at novels/books, and literally get orgasmic if there's a new novel in paperback by one of my favorite authors that I can get at a fraction of the price of a hardcover.
I recycle many, but a lot (by favorite authors) I keep to re-read a couple years later - it's like opening a new book again, since I've read so many in between that the story is new again (plot/characters long-forgotten since the first time I read the book).

About 8 per month, at least . I listen to audiobooks mainly, so that I can go through them while doing other things. I do not have cable tv. I also do books on Overdrive and Bookbub. I am in love with narrator Jay Snyder's voice.

I read at least 2 books a week. I can go through 3 or 4 in a week if they're interesting. Having a book availabe to read during my downtime is pretty close to a need for me.
I've finally gotten use to my kindle. For the longest time after I bought it, I wouldn't use it. I've gotten rid of a lot of my books, they were all over my house. Until then, I'd never gotten rid of a book, so it was difficult to let some of them go. But they were EVERYWHERE and they're dustcatchers, so I weeded through them.
I don't usually pay more than a few dollars for Kindle Books. I check their daily deals, well daily. $10 seems like too much to pay for a book and not have a real book in my hand.
For months now, it's been hard to find something I want to read. Like someone else said, everything is so dark or serious. I'll read a serious book, but I need lighter ones in between. With all the books I read, I can't remember the last time I finished a book and thought "wow, that was a good book". Kind of sad. I just like a good, well-written story.

I'd say I read between 250 and 350 books a year.
I typically read 5 books a week, if I'm in the "zone" I can easily read a book a day. DH and DS are readers too. It wouldn't be a exaggeration to say that the three of us combined could read between 750 and 1,000 books a year.
I'm not picky with regards to the device- hard cover, paperback, kindle, etc. We had a slight book addiction and decided this year to not buy any new physical books (just buy the kindle version) we have purchased like 5 or 6 physical books so far this year- 4 of them have been autographed by the authors and the others were to finish out a series in which I had all the other books in the physical version.
Honestly- I don't understand non-readers. I come from a family of readers (all except my idiot brother) and their kids are all readers and all the spouses (for the most part). DS' friends are all readers and they swap books back and forth. Many of DH and my friends are readers as well and we recommend authors and books to each other on a regular basis. I have a book with me at all times- if I have 5 free minutes I am reading a book. Waiting for a movie to start at the theater? My head is in a book, Waiting in the car while DH runs into a store? I'm reading my book, DS in his orthodontist apt- I'm reading a book. Dinner in the oven for 20 minutes? you guessed it- I'm reading a book.

In that case you are reading the wrong books.
I can't listen to talk radio it gives me a headache. Music I can have in the background and it doesn't bother me but if I have on talk radio I find myself having to concentrate on the words and I can't focus on the task at hand. DH listens to a lot of NPR throughout his day and DS keeps shows from the Discover Channel or Science Channel on in the background but I can't do that. DS can have a documentary on in the background and not physically watch a single minute of it while playing a video game or something and at the end tell you everything that was discussed on the documentary as though he watched it intently and took notes.
