link Texas Republicans have adopted a party platform that includes support for voluntary psychological "therapy" targeted at converting homosexuals to heterosexuals. Almost 10,000 attendees gathered in Fort Worth at the annual Texas GOP Convention to vote on a platform ahead of the 2016 race for the White House. Supporters of "conversion" or "reparative" therapy believe the treatment is effective in turning gays straight. California and New Jersey have banned the treatment for minors. Unbelievable.

Not surprising. They want to say they aren't NJ and California AND that they believe homosexuals are created not born.
Wonder if someone who does this therapy is a big Texas GOP donor.

Actually, knowing some religious nutcases as well as I do, I find that this is happening perfectly believable. I wish it wasn't... but if wishes were fishes we'd all be eating some sort of filet tonight.
Why can't some people just accept the truth that's as plain as the noses on their own faces.
I once asked one of the aforementioned nutcases when he chose to be straight... his answer: "I didn't, I was born that way. They are choosing to go against the way they were born".
Ummm... hello... If you were "born that way" (straight), can't you fathom that they could also be "born that way" (gay)?

It's worse than that:
It includes repealing the minimum wage, repealing the voting rights act, and a host of other nutty things the base loves. And of course repealing Obamacare

In all fairness... I'm o.k. with repealing the unconstitutional embarrassment that will do untold amounts of fiscal damage (Obamacare).

OK- well suck ass or not it is Constitutional.
So how are you with repealing the voting rights act and the minimum wage? Pure pablum for the base. Going to be funny when TX turns blue because of these nutcases.
There is a reason they call them extremists.
I recommend the GOP sticks with the anti-gay agenda. Sure winner.

I'm actually okay with abolishing the minimum wage. I am philosophically opposed to the concept in toto. Which means it really sucks to be in a city that passed a $15/hour minimum....

Seriously? Well, that's just stupid and I'm surprised they even got 10k people to go along with it. I seriously could care less if you're gay. Keep it to yourself and you can have sex with a goat for all I care. Why do I need to know your sexual preferences anyway?

Just more pearl-clutching, conservative/religious hysteria.
If they think their gay teenage family members are screwed up now, just wait until they are forced to complete conversion therapy (if they don't run away from home and therapy first that is).
As for adults who voluntatily enter the program(s), the very vast majority will not change at all and be out thousands of wasted dollars, or be even more confused than ever the rest of their lives.

The problem is that the bestialist is proud of his perversion and has no desire to keep it to himself. He parades in the street, champions legislation, speaks at elementary schools, demands widespread public acknowledgment of the goodness of his perversion, and generally does everything in his power to convince his fellow man that his perverted behaviour is in fact a very normal and harmless condition.
If the parents of a child exhibiting zoophilic tendencies were to send him to a psychologist to curb his aberrant behaviour--or at least to prevent him from acting on his sexual impulses--that would be "unbelievable", "lame", "frightening" per the testimony thus far given in this thread since the child's sexual attraction to animals is as natural and immutable as any other kind of sexual attraction.
The era of "keep it to yourself" died in the 20th century.

Isn't the gay teen suicide rate quite high? Wouldn't this make it even higher? I would expect that, yes.

Nobody is talking about bestiality, Virgil. Animals cannot give permission. Human adults can, and do - of their own accord.

I'd expect people would want to love their children as they are, and not try to "cure" something that can't be cured. that said, you and I will never agree on this, so I'm going to just walk away now.

I'm curious. How do we know what teen suicide rates were in the "early 20th century"?

Nobody is talking about bestiality, Virgil. Animals cannot give permission. Human adults can, and do - of their own accord. Zib is talking about bestiality. "Permission" is irrelevant to the naturalness, intrinsicness, and immutability of a sexual attraction. "Permission" also has nothing to do with whether an intervention by psychologists/psychiatrists would have any meaningful impact on curbing behaviours associated with the perversion. Finally, verbal consent is an arbitrary standard for "permission" that bestialists obviously don't respect and that you can give no logical justification for. To provide a sordid example, a dog that engages an individual on all fours is obviously granting the broadest possible permission it can give. Only antiquated (and easily amended) legal standards prevent such an act from being deemed consensual. Don't get me wrong: I'm grateful those laws exist. But their existence is irrelevant to the naturalness, etc., of the act. Anyway, I answered Zib's question. The rest of you can carry on in your echo chamber.

Where in your link is there any reference to the "early 20th century"? The twentieth century started in 1900/1901. Figures in your link begin in 1950. Additionally, having grown up in the 50s I'm well aware of the effects of more primitive technological factors when determining actual cause of death.

If that's the argument you want to hang your hat on, be my guest.
They obviously didn't have any problem determining when older generations committed suicide.

There are some people who would like to turn the clock back to the early 20th century too when coloreds 'knew their place'.

And that certainly wouldn't happen today. Look: make whatever excuses you want. You may have noticed that of the twelve posters that care about this thread, I'm the only one you have to convince, and I happen to believe in the statistics plus or minus 20 percent. You'd expect people would want to turn back the clock to the early 20th century when homosexuality was a private matter and teen suicides were a tiny fraction of current rates. There are some people who would like to turn the clock back to the early 20th century too when coloreds 'knew their place'. Dem beat you to the race card. You both know perfectly well that I consider the analogy specious, especially since it has no relevance at all in Canada. I'm going to follow chiver's example: We're obviously not going to agree, I've said what I wanted to to Zib, I bid you all a good day.

The era of "keep it to yourself" died in the 20th century. Too bad. It seems to died right along with manners. There have always been gay people and other forms of behavior that wasnt the accepted norm for the time. They kept quiet and everyone just let it be. Only when someone's choices are crammed down our faces do people seem to get upset about it. I don't cram DF down everyone's face. If DF was a female, I'd act the same way. We don't carry signs or have to paw each other in public so people can accept or judge us. People comfortable with themselves don't need to make a public spectacle of themselves.

Older generations kept quiet about the suicides of family members. They believed it put their families in a negative light. Just like older generations didn't talk much about their odd, spinster aunt and her constant female 'companion'.

So your uncle had an accident cleaning his gun. You think it was a suicide. Not shouting it from the rooftops didnt change anything, did it? It was a family tragedy, a sad one, but nothing e whole world needed to know. Same with the aunt with a female roommate. Now you have me wondering about my dads sister who had a female roommate her whole life. Was she gay? Did it make any difference? No. She still had good qualities and bad ones just like anyone else. If she was gay, she kept it to herself which was just fine by the rest of us. If she wasnt, that's fine, too.
