I do mostly southern cooking or american style cooking, because that is what DH grew up with and will eat. I don't fry anything but things will still get crispy by breading them with panko bread crumbs and baking.
DH has had a lot of surgery on his digestive system growing up, so he has to eat bland food. Usually if I have a spicy sauce or seasoning I will add it at the end to half the food, and serve him the unseasoned half. I don't want to end up in urgent care because my salsa didn't agree with him.

I will try any kind of cuisine as long as it doesnt have questionable ingredients(chicken feet/lung/urchin/fermented bean stuff/ect...) I love Indian food, Korean, Thai, Japanese and Chinese! Polish, yes please! German, mmhmm! I think you can see where I am going with this My Uncle is Mexican and him and his family make the best food ever!!! I look forward to family parties held at their house -drool-I love food Any ethnicity!

When the frou-frou sushi place opened here I told DH not to tell me what anything was, because if I knew I was eating eel, or sea urchin or squid I wouldn't even try it. And after that day I will try just about anything once because that sushi was AMAZING and I'd hate to have missed out on it because of some mental hang up of mine.

For the those who might be wary of trying sushi because of the whole raw fish thing, freshwater eel (unagi) is always cooked.

What is wrong with using lard in pie crusts? It's how you get the flaky texture. Pie crust made without it tastes like crap. I know that lard makes the best pie crusts; that's how DH's mother made them, although she died before DH and I started dating so I never met her. And someone mentioned pecan pie. OK, I will definitely eat THAT Southern food- and chess pie, when I can find it! There are really only two desserts that motivate me to save room/calories for them if we're eating out: cheesecake (but it has to be thick, heavy cheesecake) and pecan pie.
The "fattest" state in the US is Alabama (measured by % of obese people) and I'm sure it's a function of the traditional cooking. It was fine for farmhands, but you can't eat like that every day if you have an office job.

My grandmother knows how to make chess pie. Not my cup of tea. I love pumpkin pie but I am extremely picky about the crust so I haven't had it much since my grandma died. My mom and I have tried to replicate it, we have the recipe but we still come up just a tad short. There's something my grandma was doing that she didn't write down and we'll never know.

what is chess pie? and besides the unagi rolls, there is always vegetarian sushi - the word "sushi" refers to the rice, not the fish. one of my favorite rolls is a mushroom tempura roll, that's topped with eel sauce. for those that don't know, it's the sauce that's used on eel rolls, not a sauce made from eel.

Awww...that's too bad. My Nana was not a good cook so I don't have much from her. I found a recipe card for a liver soup in her handwriting in my Mom's recipes and then I found the same recipe on a card in my Mom's handwriting (my Dad must like it   so I was thinking of writing it out myself and then framing the 3 generations together.

Like violagirl, I don't really consider our regular cooking to be any sort of cuisine. If we eat spaghetti one night, is that Italian? When dining out, I gravitate toward Indian, Thai, and Mexican. I loooooove spicy food. Do you like spicy on going out as well?

I am a huge fan of sub-American cuisine. It is called Philadelphia cuisine. It is included Philadelphia cheesesteak that needs to be banned from face of the Earth for it's irresistibility. Also hoagie. Another 'good bye figure' food... Since I had met those 2 I can pretty much forget anything else. And you would. Trust me. look at it...

That's because you're thinking of one with wiz that comes from tourist spots like Pat's and Geno's. Provolone, American, and wiz are the most common cheeses used.
