So over the last 3 weeks, making a few trades in KOG, I cashed in 45636.00 in cash and saved 100,000.00 in the price per shares of the core holding and never shorted it once. A lot of people may say that Techanials wont make you money but IMO you need to know them and make use of them. They will not do you any good if you don't know your stock.

I hear what you're saying. I guess that's why when it comes down to it I look for bigger companies that I understand. I simply couldn't come close to pulling this off because of how busy things are around here. For instance, at the start of the year when things got rough, IBM was trading at 172 and change, a 52 week low. Up since then with dividends pages. Look at BCE over the last few years, anytime it has swooned I was adding shares. Same with the other companies I hold. There are always reasons for a companies share to go down, as long as it's a solid company it will go back up! On the same note, I look forward to reading this thread. Once the kids are older and out of the house... I like to keep busy..

LOL, I hear you. The kids getting older will come earlier than you wish for and then there is Grandkids that will keep you busy more so than you want to.

You should KNOW EVERY stock you hold. Ty3, At one hour a week on each stock, I should have about nine major holdings. TXN, GE, C, IYZ, IBM, HD, JNJ, DUK & SE: CALL THIS MY CAT9.
XOM is in the study: Starting to look like a full time Job. I remember when you could depend on your broker for research.
Just a thought, BiMetalAuPt
PS: AS before: my largest holding is my 30 Year Long T-Bond: We have a huge T-Bond Bull RUN. T-Bonds are the largest market in the world and most liquid. YES: MMXV-BETA ranks them A++! So that should make my hedging system CATX

not sure what your definition of "know" is
i read the quarterlies....i watch the news
i dont worry about small aberrations in the market
i do watch for officer changes....especially ceo, cfo, etc
as long as my criteria for the stock doesnt change, it stays in portfolio
i keep a maximum of 12 stocks in it
currently i have 10....i can keep up with 10 companies

10 stocks are plenty for anybody gd. What's funny is over the years I have found that the larger the company is, the less you can know it. Like Bruce, you have to get your information from where ever you can whenever you can. That's why I keep to one sector of the Market. The XOM's of the world don't grow, they Buy their growth. So, when you own one of the large companys, I have found that if you look where the growth is in that sector and pick some of that up, it wont be long before the large companys do the same. JMO

That's a good point Ty, and the reason I like big Canadian companies. Suncor has lots of growth potential, same with Bell. Climate change being one of the growth stories, lol.. It's also why I like IBM, they had lots of r&d you can look at. GE, same thing. KO would be one that has to buy growth but they have a track record and I don't see global consumption slowing over the long term. This is why I'm dumping AAPL after the split, they have officially become bloated. I guess they still could innovative, but with their current take over of Beats, it's not looking likely. This is why I'm getting excited about NOC, growth and dividends.. LOL, I hear you. The kids getting older will come earlier than you wish for and then there is Grandkids that will keep you busy more so than you want to. Talk about a multiplier effect, eh? Even at an average of 2 I'm looking at 8! God help us if they all want a big family like they had, lol!!

Ok, lets get back to Basics. I want you guys to pick a stock that trades with good dayly volume. ( A stock you are all ready watching) 1 hour into the trading day I want you to see if a trading range has been set. You want one line looking like this ( ^ ) and one like this ( v ). The Market will show most of the time your trading range for the day. This coming week I want you to write down the price of the stock you picked i hour after the open and you see this ( V ) then write down the price of your stock 1 hour later. At the end of the week we will see how many winners we had.

Ahb, your SU was around 38.85 at 10:30, hour later 38:97 ( winner) gd, EBS, you would have played the chart in reverse. The top was made around 10:30 ( shorted) and then bought them back 1 hour later at 11:30 ( winner) I" m not into shorting so if you own EBS you where a winner all ready. LOL

Bruce, you had several good stocks listed so I just picked one I know a Little about. SE. around 10:30 it was 39.63 and at 11:30 you would have hit the high for the day at 39:79(winner)

I will try a little paper trading for sure. AMD was a 10% move yesterday, too bad the kids were still at home for the long weekend and I wasn't watching, lol.. Any day I'm around and the market moves up I will see what kind of DCA can be achieved. I read a couple reports say in AMD might hit 15 bucks in a couple years! I'm having a hard time buying that, but I have some AMD articles that I will post later.

I get your point TY. My core holdings are all up. AMD is a gamble($500) on a growth stock and while it's still up from where I bought it, a market swoon could easily change that. That said, I'm sure some this will apply to my core holdings as well. Today would have been a good day, but I had a massive amount of yard word to get done, lol.. I'll get in on this though.

I MIGHT TAKE CHUCK TO THE OUT LAW AND BUY SCHA! ON THE OTHER HAND I MAY NEED SOME DRAMAMINE Talk me down. I own it and am thinking of trading it in for SPY. Are small caps in for a rough 2nd half or am I wrong?

Bruce, Ombud. By looking at the Chart for SCHA, it looks like the triangle of Death as some chartest call the formation but if it goes below 50 I'd be watching it closely. JMO

JMO TY3, The Black line (%K) has been bouncing from 40 to 60 all month. Oct might be a great buying period. Just a thought, Bruce

JMO Ty3, That 42.80 from June 2013 is looking better as a max stop or buy all the time. We could see %k<20 again for a buy in June 2014. I am holding out for a Real deal with(%K) Fast Stochastic dipping under 20% and crossing the red line (%D) on the way up. It is only money: so why should I worry as it is my son's inheritance . Google is looking a little pricy.
Just a thought, BiMetalAuPt
Yes I did make money on my Shorts but that was the game to play in 2008. I need to restart MMVIII for financial shorts. I just see momentum driving FB and the charts supporting the price rise until there are no buyers left: then crash like many dot.gone from the 1999 market. Sure love my MBA.
